briztoon is this as grim for west coast as I think it is? A ruck and a duursma at pick 1 and 2???

For West Coast fans it would be.

Almost all draft media and watchers I read, rate CDT and Duursma as the top two kids in this years draft.

CDT is a bit polarising. He's not a ruck in my opinion, but a genuine forward ruck. He only committed to AFL last year, so is coming from a ways back. He's the ultimate boom or bust prospect.

The youngest Duursma is better than his brothers, but I'm not as high on him as most draft watchers.

I'm pretty sure every younger brother in the history of the game has been rated higher than the older brother(s) pre-draft.

I kinda forgot the point too other than highlighting brothers who weren’t as good as their older sibling 🤪
There's no shortage who turned out not to be as good - but that's not necessarily how they were considered pre-draft ;)

Pfft. Just accept you were shouted down and move on.

Cal Twomey put out his latest phantom form guide rankings this morning >https://www.afl.com.au/news/1403466...form-guide-top-draft-prospects-august-ranking

As consistent as any player in the draft pool this year. He averaged 25 disposals and five clearances for the Allies, 29 disposals and six tackles for the Lions Academy and has averaged 23 touches in his six VFL performances. He's ready to play AFL. Strong bodied, able to dig in with his hands and make clearances work for his side and with a tough, competitive streak, Annable is headed to Brisbane as an Academy player. He was equal top possession getter two weeks ago in the VFL against Williamstown.

Has to be a concern how few top talent is getting produced by WA these days. When was the last top 5 pick from WA?
Been a few top 10 picks in recent years at the AFL National Draft - Dan Curtin (#8 2023), Reuben Ginbey (#9 2022), Jye Amiss (#8 2021 draft), and Neil Erasmus (#10 2021). Last top 5 picks from WA though were Logan McDonald in 2020 and Luke Jackson in 2019

What do we foresee happening with Tyan Prindable?
Seems to be one that is getting a number of VFL opportunities.

We are going to be stacked with young mids, a rookie selection for us if at all.
I assume (based on nothing but contract status) that Robertson, Tunstill and Torrent will all be moved on.

That's 3 out, with Annabel only as an in.

FWIW - I hope we keep Robertson and Tunstill as depth. Both are AFL quality, are physically developed and better than anything else we'd pick up with those later picks in the draft. Depth like them is under rated when in the premiership window.

I think we definitely keep Tunstill, very limited opportunities this season but he does look more comfortable at AFL level.

Torrent not OOC until 2026.

Robertson is gone IMO, traded or more likely delisted.

torrent is contracted until next year.

i think he is an interesting player and would like to see him get a run at some stage. great kicking skills.

Someone will pick him in second or third round like they did for Gallop, the usual academy loading will come and its a shallow draft as well.

Not sure if we'll match or not at that point.

Fergus McFadyen gets a mention in yesterdays Fox Footy draft article, as a mature age prospect gaining attention for the draft. They failed to mention that we still hold academy rights to him.

Also mentioned Carlton father son prospect Harry Dean, is firming as a top 10 prospect and are running with the narrative that 4 of the top 6 prospects are northern academy or father son, and that there are a possible further 6 first round nga or academy talents.

Add to that at least 3 band 1 or 2 compensation picks, and it all feeds in to St Kilda's narrative about the first round of draft being to compromised.

And another consequence of Carlton's father son prospect being highly rated, and Carlton gaining a band 1 compensation pick for losing De Koning to St Kilda, combined with the new draft value point system and our first round pick being at the back end of the first round, is that it's going to be extremely difficult to shop our first round pick for a points upgrade, when Gold Coast will be shopping at least two picks potentially better than ours (the Port pick being the most desirable in the draft) and Carlton will be shopping their compensation pick for points as well.

Having been involved in a private phantom draft recently, man this draft is incredibly weak beyond pick 30'ish. The first round is very shallow, as most of depth in the 15 to 30 range are academy or nga tied.
