Making threats?
It’s impossible to talk to jealous people. You just make stuff up to suit an agenda.

I threw in a little Willie Rioli there. But if you dont see the power imbalance between gladiators mouthing off while fighting on the field and a fit young man abusing a woman... Im not sure there is much to discuss.

BTW: what was your opinion when Clarko abused an umpire at a kids' game?

Does it matter if Clarko's a grown man and it was a teenage umpire?

Meet me on the Sam Frost thread?

The point is that he did the wrong thing it shouldn’t be made a separate issue based on something that isn’t there. Has Clarkson got a history of specifically targeting children with aggressive outbursts because they’re children or was his outburst a one-off that was wrong because a) it was directed at an amateur umpire which is universally acknowledged to never be ok - I can’t think of a single scenario unless they’re say, a sex offender (extreme example) and b) it happened to be a junior one? He just did the wrong thing

Do people realise that this narrative that it’s never ok to yell at an adult woman is not a universal truth?

Now in Smith’s case, it WASNT ok.

No argument there. So don’t reply and say ‘you’re excusing it.’ Because I’m not.

He was wrong. He acted, as I’ve said and so have many others who both do, and don’t support Geelong, like a f**kwit. But she is an adult, he didn’t threaten harm on her, he didn’t racially vilify her, he didn’t call out her gender or her sexuality, he attacked her professionally and said she was doing a shit job. As he did to a male photographer/journalist not a month earlier. She did not deserve what he said to her (for what it’s worth in some capacity the male one probably did - I never understand why the hell someone needs to be filmed going through an airport). But plainly that speaks to me of someone who has a problem with the press, not of the gender of the press.

This individual woman had no reason to be spoken to like she was. None at all. But I am uncomfortable with the idea that females as a rule can’t be spoken to a certain way just because they are female. What if she actually WAS breaking a rule? What if she snuck in to a closed session with fraudulent accreditation and made up a false story or something and leaked it to the press (highly unlikely I know but just in a hypothetical scenario). If someone said ‘you’re f**king shit at your job and you aren’t welcome back’ surely that wouldn’t be condemned just because the person was female?

You’re comparing homophobia to a bird. You should join Robbo in his cooker campervan.
Take a good hard look at yourself, I know you want to tear us down desperately like many others and all. I can understand it’s hard to watch your rivals do well for over 20 years and tall poppy syndrome is strong in this country, but have a good think about comparing the issues as if it’s the same.
I'm comparing homophobia to verbal abuse against women. How the **** is that not a valid comparison? I've no issues with the bird itself. I like Bailey, and can relate to his struggle with genuine mental health issues. They're not a cop-out, but they are real - that's a fact. The way he spoked to that woman, along with the Chris Scott incident, isn't something the AFL can pour cold water over when they're clamping down much harder on issues that warrant commensurate denunciation.

Mods deleted my post but I stand by it 100%.

Just to be clear:

- I have huge admiration for Geelong. They're a significant asset for our game, having been a juggernaut for almost two decades.

- I've no time for the Hawthorn/Geelong hate streak. It should just be a very healthy respect.

- I pointed out in that post a Hawthorn-related incident of similar flavour, demonstrating my capacity to look in the mirror.

Yep. It happened twice - about 10 years apart.

In Bailey's case apparently its an ongoing thing. With this photographer in particular, and apparently with others too. Maybe he was just really pissed off because he didnt get to monetise it. He certainly is not shy of a camera when out and about.

He is actually when things aren't on his terms - he recently used more colourful language towards a (male) photographer following him at the airport.

There is an issue here that needs addressing around Bailey's responsibilities and obligations to the media especially when he's directly representing Geelong - but it's not a gendered issue and doesn't help anybody, including the photographer, by representing it as one.

He’s not, and as I’ve said earlier on in this thread Bailey needs to very quickly make up his mind on what identity he wants to settle on because plainly he wants the best of both worlds at the moment when it suits him and at other times he doesn’t want to ‘play the game’ as it were. You can’t have it both ways and hope to be liked, which deep down I suspect Is what Bailey Smith truly wants.

Now on the gender issue, for what it’s worth yes I do think you have to be mindful and conscious of respecting women and of course you can’t condone ‘abuse’ and anything that relates to domestic violence or whatever link you want to draw. Especially at a time when the afl and sport in general in this country is doing it’s best to bridge the gap between the genders and make it less male dominated.

But it sets a very dangerous precedent to turn EVERYTHING into a gender issue when you’ve got two very similar incidents a month apart involving the same player and two members of the press, and he gets condemned for his behaviour in one instance and not the other, purely because of the gender of the person on the receiving end in the second case.

If they were to rub him out for this they’d have to rub out him, or everyone, who gets stuck into a member of the press IMO.

This is actually a bullying in the workplace issue. She was a sanctioned member of the press doing her job and she was bullied by an employee of another organisation. We of course shouldn't be surprised that Smith feels bullying women is acceptable as he is only following his senior coaches lead.

Smith needs to understand that he is paid a ridiculous amount of money not because he is an elite sportsman but because he plays a sport that has huge public interest. That public interest is primarily down to the level of blanket coverage by the media. The woman he decided to bully was simply doing her job making it possible for him to fund his well reported love of illegally procured nasal cleansing products.

10/10 for effort, 2/10 for execution on the concern trolling.

I think there's scope to set a reasonable, clear precedent when you consider the malice in Bailey's behaviour towards the photographer. How long was the confrontation? It seems he had far more time to measure his actions than Rankine did his; it's not as if he just told a roaming BT to **** off or something.

Look everyone, there’s nothing to see with Bailey Smith and Chris Scott.
AFL press release says so.
