Also, look at his form at Sydney the year be played finals there, and compare the final he played to the previous games. Red flags.

Needed to be rested during the season, hes been lagging aside from the Hawks game and even then.... he played a great half.

I know it only played two games but I think, given its utter dominance, that the Adelaide Crows Flu is in with a shot at the Gary Ayres Award.

This season ended with Dawson shitting the bed in finals, and Rachele scrapping to keep the season alive on one leg.

When our midfield is getting trounced so easily it makes it very easy for the opposition to sit on him and knock him out of games. No one else we had is a chance to hurt the oppo.

It's a fallacy we haven't recruited midfielders

We spent picks 4, 9 and 11 on them since 2018. We brought in Dawson, Rankine and Peatling to play there. And we've found a few with later picks.

We have a very good knack of making these midfielders play poorly. Maybe by coincidence they actually all suck, or maybe we can't develop them for shit

I think our midfield being shit is a development issue. I would sooner point the finger at Nicks, VB and Godden than Ogilvie who has been drafting reasonably well in recent years.

Berry in the midfield is not up to it. Let's be honest here - Played 19 games and had 20+ disposals four times this year as a midfielder. Those 4 games were against 18th, 17th, 16th and 13th placed teams of which 3 of those 4 games we won by 60+. Lacks a genuine weapon. Good tackler, but not damaging enough with the ball when he gets it. Depth.

Make no mistake - Not having Rankine to run through there was an absolutely massive loss.

Personally - I am a little more optimistic about our midfield group.

Group 1 - Dawson, Rankine, Soligo
Group 2 - Curtin, Draper, Peatling

Also have a smart coach run Rachele through the middle as the 7th.

That group is fine with the rest of our squad.

We recruit midfielders yet refuse to play them there, even in SANFL team. Have to learn to be forwards or in Edwards case in the back lines.

Except for two finals Soligo was horrid and the worst out of all of them, if you don’t count ROB as a midfielder. Peatling also very poor.

We absolutely need Curtin and Draper to be at standard for next season. They’re not there yet.

Taylor and Berry were better than the rest in the midfield last night.

On paper I’d agree with your group 1 & 2 - but it’s worrying that three of those let the team down in finals, two of those need to develop and aren’t proven and they’re being fed by a ruckman who had an all time howler last night and over many years, has played more bad games than good ones.

I don’t want as a full time mid.

I’d play him in the the Tex role next year as the third forward pushing up the ground and occasionally in the midfield when we need a boost or to get him in the game.

But we need a better midfield to allow this to happen.
