I agree that's why he was included in the first place when it was obvious that Harry wouldn't be available, but CJ didn't play that role well in the 1st final and continued to not play the role well in the 2nd final.

He has been a net negative to the team in both games, at this stage we'd be better off picking someone else and just playing them out of position.
There’s a pretty clear role for him next week as the sub. He comes on and shadows Dempsey everywhere he goes.

As much as it would be nice to see someone actually playing on Dempsey, I'm not sure I'd want it to be CJ.

Just finished the replay. Reckon Ward was best on (or just behind Newc) - every disposal was perfect.

Early on in his career he seemed rushed and struggled with the pace of the game when thrown into the midfield.
It's clicked. He has so much time and space in congestion now.

Winning the brownlow before he retires is written in the stars!

Outside of Weddle he’s the next closest athletic profile to Dempsey. Just having someone following Dempsey will go a long way to shutting him down.

Geelongs dual tag will be newk and ward/moore.

Their mid setup is not conventional and imo hard to match up on. I think it'll be interesting to see what Mitchell will do about it

Geelong is all about the system not the players.

They have Bailey Smith, Holmes and Jeremy Cameron as players that can have a bit of flair - but everyone else plays very close and within the system.

In terms of damage, I'm not so concerned about Bailey Smith because his disposal is poor and fianls pressure will make it poorer. Holmes is the one - if he's sprinting off halfback and setting up plays we are in trouble.

Hawthorn Geelong games are so hard to analyse ahead of time - thye just kind of happen and both sides look different to how they play against anyone else and it's a wild time of ebbs and flows.

.........

If Petracca comes across I get the feeling he will be more forward with bursts through the midfield.

Oh good lord, I'm not loving any of this.

Petracca, for his career, has averaged 1 goal per game.
We're going to stump up a first round pick and maybe more for a goal a game with bursts through the midfield?
Oh, and for funzies he averages 1.2m per year unitl 2029 I believe..............

Still on a high after that. What a night. Makes me realise how badly I need to get over to the G for a home game

Yeh you never know what is going to happen when the Hawks play the Cats, it's always a wild ride.

Even within the one game the ebbs and flows are always extreme as you say. That's what makes the Cats so hard to beat, those campaigners never friggen give up.

Hands down the biggest and most enduring rivalry if the modern AFL era.

Not sure what this means but lining our win up against the Pies' versus the same oppo a week earlier:

We had to play against Rachelle, Pies didn't.

We had our best player out, Pies didn't.

We played the Crows on the rebound, Pies didn't.

We were travelling for the third week running, Pies weren't.

Pies won by 24 with nine extra shots; we won by 34 with 14 extra shots.

It's good form. Let's hope we're just building, too.
