  • Yes, Hawks fans, you have the chance to give supporters of my vintage a unique kind of trauma. This would make us your bunnies and be even worse than '08.
  • In all honesty? You'd better bring more pressure than you usually do. There's a reason why teams commit the fewest clangers against you. (hint: 51 tackles like last night ain't getting it done against us)

No doubt we're in for a week of people saying "It should be a great game" when it really shouldn't at all. I've got us winning by 45+. There is literally zero reason why this "should be a classic" at all, except that a bunch of games the players are too young to remember.

I dreaded playing Hawthorn in a final this year.

I expected a bit more of physical outing last night against Adelaide but there was none. Hawthorn literally went through the motions. They will be relatively fresh heading into the prelim.

For whatever reason, something is telling me Hawthorn don't go away after we put them on the ropes throughout the match.

Tough game to pick.
This has all-time classic written all over it.

I picked Geelong to win the premiership, before the finals started, but I think Hawthorn might be the second best team, even though they finished 8th. So, it should be a cracking match. I think if Geelong beats Hawthorn, then it's smooth sailing to the premiership. But Geelong are also getting screwed over by not getting a home final at Kardinia Park, this benefits Hawthorn playing at their home ground instead.

I don't think Geelong will play as badly as Adelaide. Adelaide were pathetic and I am sure Geelong won't be like that.

But Hawthorn have been a great side in finals, have great winning culture and have won 14 premierships, many of them over the past 40 years. Despite their poor record against Geelong, they often have beaten them in finals although Geelong won the last finals meeting surviving after the siren. But Hawthorn beat them in 2 GF's 1989, 2008, also the EF in 2000 at Docklands, PF in 2013.

I think Geelong win but only just. If they do I think they will win it all.

This game should be on the Saturday evening. Collingwood play the Friday night.

See I reckon that's your trauma talking.

I'm not quite at your level of confidence and was hoping for an Adelaide win last night (mainly just for the true home ground advantage we'd have gotten), but... stuff it. We've won the only final between the teams in the past decade, two of the past four. The only way you put this shit to bed once and for all is by putting it on the line and risk losing.

We absolutely could lose. It's the top four teams, you're going to play someone good. We need to stop the Meek/Newcombe combo, we need to keep Gunston relatively under control. But Hawthorn didn't even play out of the skins to win comfortably against the Crows; they could have been a lot better. They've had a lot of hot starts recently; we've had a lot of games where we've started with like 3.8 or 4.11. One thing about Hawthorn is I think there's absolutely zero chance that they shit the bed: we'll have to go out there and win this game.

There's no excuses - you need tests like this to do something great. Bring it on.

That's not how prelims work.

We play first to get an extra day rest as we are the top seed.

13 but we’ll take the extra.

Don’t forget the major 1991 SF too. The Cats lost that despite dominating the final quarter. Had they won, they probably win the 1991 flag.

Looks like Breust is done for the year. Potentially very bad knee injury. Not that I thought he would be selected, but could have been a sneaky chance as a sub, as I thought CJ was pretty poor for the Hawks

Thought this was the potential move. Or if Ginni didn't pull up well after the hammy

Huge blow since he's been such an amazing player for us and it's not the way for a champion to go out :'(

A very bad looking knee injury by the looks as well, like a retirement type injury if he was even planning to go around again

According to the herald sun Gunston, Ginnivan & Impey all have injury concerns.

You would think Breust would have been a chance if Ginnivan doesn’t get up.
