Its not really in our hands. Sometimes teams are slow from the week off, and sometimes they are rested and very ready. In 2022, that was the case. In 2024, it was the former.

We didn’t start slowly in last year’s prelim, we were just inaccurate. We were 1.5 to 3.2 at quarter time.

Another thing.

I remember someone mentioning in the list management thread that they thought NWM would be insane to choose Port over crows, and i urged caution because the lists weren't far apart in depth.

If I were a betting man, and provided port keep butters, I'd wager Port goes above Adelaide next year.

The crows have a brilliant forward line but outside a scattering of names are thin elsewhere, especially midfield.

Port aren't outstanding anywhere and they desperately need 2x small forwards, but I think their list gaps are much easier to bridge. They will also get a new coach bounce from Carr, and they couldn't do any worse than this year where they were done from the start by a lame duck coach transition plan.
Even the forward line isn't that brilliant. Fogarty is a fraud in big games and Tex is cooked. Rankine is required in midfield a lot. Keays and Rachele are good, Thilthorpe is a beast but over the second half of the season their weaponry has been less potent.

Opportunistic prick Lyon just rubbed salt into wounds going for her
Doesn't matter if BB's marriage was on the rocks. Lyon broke the cardinal rule of not going after a mate's wife/GF. That was a low act.

Yeah I usually reserve judgement on forwards when the other posts of the ground are failing though. Could have been better for sure

I do wonder if the Rankine saga was the catalyst for their lacklustre finals performance?
I guess if they had lost really narrowly you could argue that, but both games they were like deer in the headlights. Rankine is good, but not that good to drag half the team over the line. That being said, he will need to keep a very low profile in the town for a while as the blame game lights up the local airwaves and wailing and gnashing of teeth prevails.
Basically they just weren’t good enough. End of story.

For shits and gigs, I do an alternative draft every year looking back five years ('cause I gots the 'tism) and pick who I objectively believe we "should" have drafted instead.
VCs have an anti-portfolio (list of companies they passed on investing) and compare how their actual portfolio is performing against it. Wellsy's Draft would be miles ahead of his anti-Draft.

This is a good idea for a thread. Interested ones put their draft picks in before the actual draft (including trading away picks). There could be a leaderboard and a designated winner. I'm sure we have a few talent-spotters here (not me). I assume we can disable edits. If one such thread already exists, please enlighten the rest.

Should have been 2 goals up based on general play. Stengle just barely brushed a Lions players head before a goal (so 50m penalty) too.
At the risk of incurring some folks' ire here, we should not discount the Umps hand in crucial Finals moments (at best Tall Poppy Syndrome in action). Especially with Hawthorn (Floppers R Us)

That and Stengle had a few brain implosions that cost us certain goals. He's never had a game like that before or after, although I do hope his goalkicking radar sharpens up.

Anyway, I guess the point overall is that it only takes a few decisive winning plays or **** ups to swing a big knockout final. Let's hope we're on the right side of that ledger next week.

preference- Lions- not a fan of Hardwick .
What are the odds for a GC Hawks GF?

Basically none.
It's going to be Geelong and Collingwood unless something strange happens.
