Politics Aussie Fascists, (neo)Nazis and Leg Spinners

I just wanna be clear, i was very happy in the safe dad talk space and he raised bail laws, home invasion laws and then the rally.

I very politely engaged and very politely disagreed on the rallies, i didnt really bother with the others, as a cop hes likely more knowledgable about the police role in both things anyway.

The problem is sometimes that these people are too close to the matter, it's too personalised. Hard to step back and consider wider context or root causes of something when you're dealing with it directly. You can't really have a discussion with someone in that setting because whilst they might be knowledgeable about their corner of the issue, they're only reading one chapter of the book.

Same as when you see people go 'wE nEeD tO bE tOuGh On CrImE' as though just being harsher is going to fix the problems.

Unfortunately, it's probably necessary for parents of young boys to understand how to have that conversation. Sounds like too many of them are being taken in by the right-wing griftosphere.

We mostly laugh at a guy like FBI, but he's a genuine pro-authoritarian. What messages did he consume growing up? What messages is he passing on to people around him?

one of the problems is that fascism is really all that is presented as a viable alternative to the current state of the world

and governments are becoming more authoritarian as conditions for people worsen to maintain their grip, so they're not going to stop that pipeline

look at the US and the packages they are offering people to join ICE, big money, student debt forgiven, signing bonuses etc

they're weaponising those guys directly now against the rest of the population

We've also gotta remember this isn't a new playbook they're all drawing from

its one they know works

like yeah talk to your kids, try and educate them and listen and everything but when you've got the Prime Minster on record saying there were good people at the nazi rallies because politically its better for him to say that then to denounce them all, its more than just the grifters and groups like the NSN you have to deal with

its the media and politicians as well, and chunks of society that have always been there

There was a good AMA on Reddit with an author of a book on fascism where he responded to a question about talking to people who hold fascist views.

He basically said that once their views reach a certain point, there's no real benefit from engaging with them until they come to their own realisation. Unless it's a very close person to you e.g. a child or a parent who might listen. Just accept that they're a fascist and move on.

i mean saying someone is repeating fascist talking points or using the language they want you to use isn't the same as saying someone is a fascist

but it is why they try so hard to get their positions given mainstream acceptance

like the march saying they're for all australians and want all immigration stopped, but they put all the dog whistles in their message

next minute crowds are cheering Sewell calling for a white Australia

of course that didn't happen in the 5 minutes it took them to setup this rally

shit it didn't even happen the last decade or so that he's been active

that stuff has been bubbling along the entire time

I maybe thought it may have spurred the terminally online cookers who take all there direction from American politics to increase their rally numbers here.

Seems that failed. I don’t think we’re seeing really committed or organised people.
