The goal celebration give me the shits…..Mots for the goal celebrations. Keep!
Or free up a list spot with a draft pick coming in (though not much interest elsewhere by the sounds) and persevere with Evans, White, F.Young.How do you suggest we trade Mots and turn that junk pick into gold? Lists aren't made up of all gun players. I'd rather have a player with upside than a speculative gamble in the draft or a failed small forward as a delisted free agent.

What has been viewed consistently with the limitations / negatives on display trumps the perceived upside that may be there IMO.

Depends on if your sole metric for evaluating forwards is goals.Motlop has a lot of fans in here...
Ok ... How many Goals kicked in the 2026 H&A season is a pass for ----> 'I told You Motlop was worth keeping'
Remember we turfed out Owies who kicked 33...
Aside from this being an absurd way to measure their worth, Owies was a year and a half older than Motlop is now when he made his debut.Motlop has a lot of fans in here...

Pretty simple with Motlop. Good top speed and agility, tries to take the game on. Is undone by lack of strength through the core and an inability to stand up in tackles. Goes to ground far too easily and struggles to get his arms free, often clinging it to his body and getting pinged.
but I don't think he suits the role we've been asking him to play.
I’m always surprised when we kick a goal…Hate goal celebrations, why act surprised you could execute your job?

Upside is in your opinion. The draft pick would be a late speculative gamble. It's all good freeing up a list spot so long as what you bring in has good/better upside than what you let go. I doubt any late pick has as much upside as Motlop. Like I said, he holds more value to us than what we would be able to get on the list by letting him go. If this were a deep and strong draft it would make the decision harder.
Owies was turfed because he was out of contract, 28 and we couldn’t afford that type on our list.Depends on if your sole metric for evaluating forwards is goals.
And Owies was turfed because at 28 he was not getting any better and provided pretty much nothing outside of 1 goal/game against non-bottom 4 sides in 2024.
Matt Owies was a Cat B success story.Aside from this being an absurd way to measure their worth, Owies was a year and a half older than Motlop is now when he made his debut.
And if he did the things I described others would have been let go before him. But yes as I mentioned age and his ability to get better would have been a factorOwies was turfed because he was out of contract, 28 and we couldn’t afford that type on our list.
Unfortunate timing. LM.
A flop at 21? My wordMatt Owies was a Cat B success story.
Motlop is looking like someone that has played football all his life & a National Draft flop!
Dude ... there's no point discussing who we replace him with if he has just been given a 2 year contract.Moon I love your passion for the club but you didn't answer my last question.. if we let Motlop go for a late pick, how do we go about improving our team?
Out of contract!!! Same for MK (in-contract) and the pay grade level that was let go. S/C decisions that were made to straighten us out and take 4-5 picks at the draft. And if he did the things I described others would have been let go before him. I understand he was out of contract. That is a factor but what I said is still true. Owies did not provide a lot of things that a small forward should and at his age had limited ability to improve significantly in those areas. He was essentially playing as a mid-sized or even KPF despite being a small.Out of contract!!! Same for MK and the pay grade level that was let go. He was improving from Cat B drafting.
Where has the bar of expectation even been set for it to be "so low"? Haven't heard anyone set that bar of expectation for any of our other resignees. Evans? Does he need to kick 30 goals to be a good contract next year? Does Kemp need to kick 30 goals?Dude ... there's no point discussing who we replace him with if he has just been given a 2 year contract.
You didn't answer my question ... so I owe you nuffin.
I hope Motsy comes good in 2026 ... only seeing the bar of expectation is set so low ... no doubt 2026 will be a success for his fans around here
He’s more a medium forward that can play a small forward. A tweener that actually had more forward craft in getting to the right positions to hit the scoreboard than our other small forwards. Showed this from his VFL grounding/apprenticeship.I understand he was out of contract. That is a factor but what I said is still true. He lead at the ball carrier more than some of our other smalls which is great. But if you look at other key traits that we need in our team in that role including pace, foot skills, crumbing ability/positional awareness, defensive pressure and even positional versatility etc he was not going to help in those areas. He’s more a medium forward that can play a small forward. Evans? Does he need to kick 30 goals to be a good contract next year? Does Kemp need to kick 30 goals?
