Jy Simpkin looking at options.
But... But.. With that 1mil per year for the next 4 years is a BIG BIG anchor that needs some serious steak knives thrown in.
Like i am talking SERIOUS steak knives that rhymes with COMBEN lol... and i ain't joking.
Absorbing that kinda dollars comes at cost.
Or their 1st rounder next year along with.... FINBAR MARLEY!!
Only If... that is a ONLY If Simpkin is willing to redo his contract to a more friendlier contract.
I actually don't mind the bloke. Hard as nails. Gives u 100%. Does the 1per centers. Great locker room fella.
Unfortunately kicks like my old lady... shytenhausen.
Looking at it from another angle makes it seem ok.
I did day seem. Hehe.

I almost never watch NM but some friends of mine who are diehard NM supporters reckon he's too slow for MF duties.

I would definitely look at Simpkin. Hes undervalued at north. Another good running mid. Worth our first rounder and I think would be a great addition with Worpel with Holmes and Smith the stars. It also protects us a bit if we miss out on butters
Someone on here will know way more about the Butters situation than I do. But if he's purchased property where I'm told he has, then it's going to be a bit of a commute to train and play with a Melbourne based club.

I didn't see too many upset replies this afternoon at the thought of Simpkin moving on

He's a Worpel-level player. There is no way we should trade anything of value for him.

Prefer Worpel and I’m no fan of him.

He goes ok IMO.

Would almost need to be a salary cap dump though.

1mill a year is well overs for him.

If we want a ready made midfield we should recruit the 2025 Sandover Medallist 🏅
😍😍
Never say never!

Constable as well as Parfitt had excellent seasons playing in the same team.

In all honesty, when you look at Worpel v Constable, I don't think the differences would be that stark. Don't know if he would want to return though..?

Hes better than Worpel. Hes a midfielder played on a flank.

Better runner and disposal and more consistent. Worpel probably more what we need.

If there’s doubt with Butters, and the club would know, then we should look at Simpkin.

Where has he bought his property?
I read a post by a Carlton supporter (he posted on X and this board I think) and he was adamant that Butters was Geelong bound purely based on where he'd made a recent property purchase
Would love to know a bit more (actually a lot more)!!

It feels like the AFL is getting to the stage where we have a perennial top 8 and bottom 8, where the best players from the bottom 8 continually want a transfer to one of the top 8 so that they can play finals and hopefully win a premiership. Meanwhile, the bottom 8 get the best draft picks, spend 3 or 4 years training and supporting them until they reach ‘superstar’ (media term for good average player) status (or Captain status!) when they leave for glory, and we rinse and repeat ad nauseum. Contracts aren't worth the paper they are scribbled on.

Yeah let's take a look at those "perennial" bottom of the ladder sides shall we.

9th: Western Bulldogs (made finals last year; made a Grand Final as recently as 2021)
10th:Sydney (made a Grand Final last year)
11th: St Kilda (made finals as recently as 2023)
12th: Carlton (made finals last year; made a Preliminary Final as recently as 2023)
13th: Port Adelaide (made a Preliminary Final last year)
14th: Melbourne (made finals as recently as 2023; won a Premiership as recently as 2021)
15th: Essendon (made finals as recently as 2021)
16th: Richmond (made finals as recently as 2022; won a Premiership as recently as 2020)
17th: North Melbourne
18th: West Coast (made finals as recently as 2020; won a Premiership as recently as 2018)

🙃

Undervalued at North? They’re paying him a million bucks a year 🤣🤣

You would think Geelong or the dogs are the logical options. But I reckon the dogs will be more likely to pay the 2mil he wants even though we have the cap space.

Near baccus Marsh i think was the report.

Im not joking 🙃. Bring back Charlie Constable back to Geelong in 2026 .
He will be the first bloke in history to win 2025 Sandover and 2026 Brownlow 🏅 🥈
The only thing weirder than this would be someone in history having won the 2025 Sandover and the 2026 Brownlow. 😄

Would be good, but North will want to much as his contracted till 2029
Oliver's, Curnow's etc.. contracts stick out like a sore thumb. 2025 is hopefully peak- long term contracts.

If you harbour desires of changing clubs in the future, don't sign long term contracts. Your Manager is conflicted (extra commission, bonuses etc.). You are selling out all your leverage to the club. You are tying your fortunes to a club that may be at the beginning of the beginning of a slump. You career will be a non-starter.
