2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

How do geelong get the deal done
Doesn't matter, Carlton should put on their big boy pants and go for the best deal. If that is North Melbourne or Essendon so be it. He goes there or he stays at Carlton.

I stand by my original thoughts, despite being called a bedwetter 😂, the fact this is still a story is not a good sign for what we are trying to achieve. We have set ourselves a two year timeframe to get moving up the ladder and in to contention. Whatever people think, Cal Wilkie will be an absolutely integral part of that if it is to be successful.

This still being a story, and being played out in the media doesn't bode well for the culture that Lyon and co are trying to build. Just doesn't happen at good, serious football clubs. We are gonna need a team with a lot of new pieces to gel very quickly and it will need everyone on board. Not I'm on board contingent on a bigger contract. Someone fully committed would be ecstatic that we are bringing in multiple good players to improve us not shitty thinking they deserve the money more, despite having zero on field success.

Anyway I've got no doubt Cal will be playing for us next year but let's see if Lyon can get everyone on the same page quickly.
I agree that the pressure is on to get things moving.

But the modern AFL landscape is such that trade speculation will always play out in public. It's part of the entertainment cycle now. The AFL wants the trade and free agency period to draw a powerful audience, and what is playing out now is to a large degree by design. So unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you like to consume your AFL draft and trading, this public speculation and maneuvering is only likely to get even more prominent.

I think what's happening at Essendon with the vitriol and back stabbing speaks more about culture, but not the actual trade explorations.

I think if we're going to be ruthless in the trade and free agency then means we're going to demand our own players be held to account for the contracts that they sign as much as look to lure quality players from other clubs.

Day 6: we want the 2016 premiership cup
Look we probably won't get the cup. But given how easily they throw around premiership medals over there you could probably ask for the bonts premiership medal and get it as some steak knives.

I hope he goes to the pies, another slow, injury prone aging mid is exactly what they need. With Tassie probably coming in and years of compromised drafts ahead, they could be absolutely cooked in a few years. They have no even half decent young players outside of Daicos.
They have nothing to trade with.

Dogs have really ****ed us with the timing of this Wilkie thing. If the choice is between paying Wilks a bit more and only getting one of Aleer or Silvagni vs losing him that's a pretty easy choice imo
Wilkie has no say he’s contracted that simple
I’d call Dogs bluff
Great you’ve made our contracted FB a godfather offer
Now put your balls on the line and make St Kilda a godfather offer with respects to players and name them cause you ain’t getting this done without moving high end
Otherwise fck off and stop wasting everyone’s time Beveridge ya Cuk

As I said, I love Tassie the State. However, Tassie Football team will not benefit the Saints at all and, if anything, will be looking to poach our players. My preference is the team doesn't get off the ground.
Same thought, but I’m really concerned about the depth of talent and quality of games if Tassie and number 20 come into the competition. Not to mention rebuilding through drafts will be even harder.

Just look this year and the bottom eight teams. Creating a two tiered competition. Saints hoping to get off the bottom tier before the Tassie drafts come into play.

I don’t want Tasmania. 18 teams is too many. 16 was ideal.

I'd take SDK for Roma, that is it.

I understand they are a champion team, but not a team of champions. Most of those players that they would consider trading, are shit in other systems.
100%. SDK would be our CHB for the next 10 years. It would also release the viking to play forward.

Agree with what you said. Bulldogs are stacked in the forward line and midfield. With key back their only weakness, Beveridge is under pressure after missing on finals this year. Think they'll come hard bearing gifts, for example Sanders + Freija + JUH (only if we want him, and dogs pay half of his salary), would we do it?

As much as I love Wilks, I’d do it for Sanders and Frejiah.

No chance the woofers would do that though.

I’m not sure why Collingwood would be looking at him. What’s the appeal for them?

Replace Pendlebury who's 38 next year. Steele is 30 next year, 8 years younger. Collingwood likes their veterans especially in the midfield. Sidebottom (35), Degoey (30), Crisp (32), Mitchell (33), Hoskin-Elliott (32). It actually makes sense for them and Steele, but Collingwood wouldn't have any draft capital to give us unless there's a young player that we want.
