Bailey Smith

They lost by 2 goals to Geelong in round 11 and Smith was one of the best on ground so you are wrong.

Am I though?

One of the players the dogs got as part of that trade was Matt Kennedy who had 25 touches at 80% and kicked 3 goals in that game.

Smith had it 33 times at 50%

Pretty sure you could call that a draw or even win to Kennedy in that game.

With the trade , the Bulldogs did make a team above them better and only finished 3 games behind Geelong.

Hang on....you said they lost the game because of Bailey Smith.......but when it was pointed out the guy the Dogs got as part of that trade had a better game...........it's now yeah but the trade made them a 3 game better side than the dogs.

The Dogs missed finals because they lost to the dockers at Marvel in the last round of the season.

They improved Geelong more than they improved themselves which is dumb.

Smith is 24 and Kennedy is 28. Smith is one of the Brownlow favourites.
He is worth a top 5 pick and a top 10 pick at the very least.
The Bulldogs didn't really want to keep him.
He wasn't seen as a starting midfielder in their team.
His 2023 season was average and he was not in the top 50 players in the comp.
He had never even made the All Australian squad of 44 (or been close).
He was recovering from an ACL and a year off.
He had off field and mental health issues.
He was uncontracted.

The Bulldogs were never going to get a massive haul for him. It was hardly worth self sabotaging to send him to the draft.

His value is now higher after a stellar season that exceeded everybody's expectations.

Geelong ripped off the Bulldogs and made a mockery of equilisation. You can't allow clubs to continue to do that. It's bad for football.
Look man, given his off field issues, illicit drug addiction, and undiagnosed personality disorder - I wouldn't have been surprised if Bevo was willing to just be rid of him. Would you want someone like that at your workplace, no matter how well they performed?

Sometimes you need to make a stand when you get a disrepectful offer and Geelong may have upped the offer if he was going to the draft.
I wonder where he would have gone if they threatened to send him to the PSD? Are you just upset that he didn't end up at Richmond

Yes, like I’ve posted previously, Geelong took a punt on Smith when other clubs lost interest. They thought they could keep him out of trouble, shut down any bad stories being outside the Melbourne bubble and get him playing good footy.

He’s had a great season, but is still a watch on just whether he can play out the contract he has been given.

He strikes a bit like Clayton Oliver circa 2019 or Aker circa 2000 atm - great for a team of strong leaders who are in the window, so get your flag while the going is good.

Maybe, but I haven’t been too perturbed by his behaviour. Had no issues with anything prior to this incident. Didn’t mind him giving the bird to rude supporters.
He certainly got this latest one wrong and he apologised, as he should have.
Feels like people want to make a big fuss about something that isn’t that much really. He’s been pretty reasonable with his behaviour this year. If he makes a habit of being unreasonably rude to people, then who knows, but we aren’t there at this point.

Why not enforce some consequences before it gets out of hand and he does real damage? Instead Patrick goes on air and basically laughs it off.

I thought Dangerfield’s response was absolutely fine. Calm and sensible.
Again- it seems to me that some of you people are desperate to be outraged. Smith hasn’t done anything remotely comparable to ‘real damage’.

Bailey doesn’t need to be taken out of the game for his action, but they are a sign of a troubled young man going down a dangerous path.

For his own sake, he needs boundaries and to be told he’s not above other people or the law.

In their own interests, Geelong are doing him a disservice by letting him do whatever he wants.

Yep, but you actually have no idea what Geelong are doing with him though, do you? Maybe they are addressing his behaviour. Maybe they are setting boundaries. Maybe he is too-after all he has sought professional help over this mental health struggles.
And again- how you get ‘dangerous path’ out of his behaviour is hard to see. You seem to be overstating his offences. His behaviour re the photographer wasn’t worthy of a serious consequence.
De Goey hardly seems a comparable situation. He has numerous genuinely unsavoury/criminal incidents in his résumé and is a repeat offender.

I don’t know what Geelong or Bailey are doing, but so far it hasn’t been working as he’s still a petulant brat and publicly brushing his (and the coach’s) behaviour aside tells everyone else that it’s not a big deal to behave as they are.

He's a rotten egg pure and simple.

Was watching a doco on the Erebus racing team earlier in the week.
They had a part on David Reynolds who quite openly said no one tells him what to do and rebelled against Covid restrictions from his employer.
Bailey Sith comes across as the same typebof character and would no doubt rebel if his team mates or employer called him out.
I think this is why outwardly he appears to get a free pass.
