Neale from the Cats will probably be looking for a new home if Curnow ends up there.

Geelong impossible to deal with in a fair manner if the player is in contract.

Kelly and Ratugolea trades took 2 years to happen.

They don’t find a common ground between their needs and what’s best for the player.

Powell and Phillips were getting around 50% midfield time compared to 34% for Simpkin. Those 2 are the at the bottom end of their midfield group. There's no doubt he's not getting enough midfield time. His best footy is always when he's playing mid. That's what happens when you have 100 top draft picks but you take all midfielders
Phillips is OOC signed a 1 year deal last year.

It was a media beat up. They periodically audit all clubs.
They have been at it for years. 20 years we hear how they just have this great culture on and off the field and players just play for less at Geelong. Then there are the third party deals, players getting stabbed, overdosing, getting convicted of drug supply and most recently getting prosecuted for rape.

But it is just this strong culture they have that see players play for less

They'd actually not have many on big money. Going by reports, Smith's contract wasn't huge. Holmes's contract wouldn't be huge yet. Paddy and Cameron as veterans would no longer be on the massive contracts they used to be on. I don't think it's surprising at all that they've got salary cap space.

I find that hard to believe. They may be playing for less than what they may get from another club, but l think they would still be on decent coin. Holmes was getting big offers from other clubs before he re-signed in 2024.
I don't think Holmes said pay me alot less, and l will just stay in Geelong because its Geelong...lol

Most of that has nothing to do with salary cap. Some of the lists they've had were star studded. When they added Jezza to the list they had at the time, I understand the suspicion. But this current list just wouldn't be a particularly expensive one and I'm not at all surprised that they're in a position to poach.

This was their QF final team. It's just not a big money acquisition team as they'd be budgetting **** all going forward for Paddy and Jezza:

Zach Guthrie, Jack Henry, Mark O'Connor
Lawson Humphries, Tom Stewart, Mark Blicavs
Gryan Miers, Max Holmes, Oliver Dempsey
Brad Close,Shaun Mannagh, Tyson Stengle
Shannon Neale, Jeremy Cameron, Patrick Dangerfield
Sam De Koning,Bailey Smith, Tom Atkins
Connor O'Sullivan, Oisin Mullin,Jack Martin, Jack Bowes

Rumour (Essendon source): "So apparently Walsh asked the board that he wanted out and they straight out said no… now ive been told Essendon and Collingwood will make a play for him next year."
He's so banged up and his back is f%^ked. No thanks.

I don't think we lack depth in the midfield. It just looks that way because there's none out of the team, but we have really strong midfield depth already in the team - Sidey, Crisp, Perryman, Josh and we have a bit of depth for their roles. We're old and will need to bring in replacements soon, but guys like Flanders who want an immediate midfield role or fringe players who want to move for extra opportunity are unlikely to choose us. So midfield recruits are likely to be kids or topliners.
In the next couple of years, we'll see some the likes of Jaicos, Perryman move into the midfield hopefully Allan plays more midfield next year. Parker will play more in the backline next year, We have Steele, HH coming through as well. So our midfield isn't as bad as some say, but it would be great to get a player like Butters or Rowell though.

He wasn't at thi level when he re-signed. He's gone up a couple of levels and hit elite since then, so he'd likely be on well unders comparative to his contribution. Next contract will be huge. This one won't be.

It's worth having a deep look at their current best 23 and besides Cameron, Holmes and Smith the others would be on good coin but no more than the average player. Compare that to our best 23 where we have multiple players on big coin. They do things smarter and better than everyone else. Stengle was carried out of a nightclub and played the following week. They dealt with it in house and didn't drop him so the media could have a field day. I ****ing hate Geelong but you just have to accept that they do things so much better

I'm hearing they're planning on boycotting the rest of finals to focus on trade rumours. They're halfway there already. Grand final parade will be a parade of blokes who want out, continuing all the way through to trade week.

Caroline Wilson made a career as the former chief footy writer at The Age by doing just that - it's all boardroom scuffles, trades, rumours, scandals, "insider scoops" and "reliable information" from "trusted sources" that has little to nothing to with footballers playing football. I mean, she clearly loves the game but her inability to talk about it at anything more than the surface level is striking.

In terms of reporting, Caro is many leagues above the new clickbait crew that have come through recently.

You think? He was a standout in 2024. He won their B and F. Admittedly he has improved even more this year. But in 2024, before he re-signed, he had offers of $1M a season from another couple of clubs, which delayed his re-signing...

Steven May told to look elsewhere. I really hope we don't look his way for 1 second....
