2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Jsos is older and has never had a season close to Battles last two.

Both of them might cover him but either alone won’t (and that’s not me criticising the outcome).

In reality we only win that deal if Tauru turns out very very good
I don't see him being older as an issue as Tauru comes in and replaces him when he finishes up. It's only a one-year difference anyway

I agree, it'll be tough to win, but its not as much of a mistake as people are saying imo. We've still been able to invest in a super high-upside kid whilst also landing a ready-made relatively proven replacement only a year later

I don't regret the deal at all even though it would've been nice to hold on to him

I reckon Pies would be keen aswell.

If you're in the premiership window, May would be a very enticing prospect.

The dogs are crazy if they don’t pick May up.

He’s still a very good player, they only need 1 or 2 years from him.
Either club would seem a good fit. Bulldogs crying out for a backman and we can see their desperation going after JSOS then a contract and untouchable Wilkie.

What am I making out - that he is better than Boyd and the club should have recognised that. The fact Boyd was the first delisted suggests that is right.

He is always going to be a backup ruck, but just perhaps one day he blossoms like so many ruckman in their mid 20's. That was never going to occur with Boyd.
I very much doubt Max will ever be the number 1 bunny at an AFL club , he tries no doubt but IMO just doesn't have the capacity to be a No 1 ruck ,

My point is more that JSOS has never had a season close to Battles last two and hes already older. Its extremely unlikely hes gonna break out this year and have an AA calibre season to match Battle.

Again, im not criticizing the outcome, we got a top 10 pick for Battle, its what we wanted (ive criticized the WAY we did it, but the outcome long term is obviously what we wanted).

I stand by it that Tauru ultimately need to match Battles output given Battles likely got 3-4 more years of his current output. Hes high upside but hes also shown some big ****ing holes.

Jury is out but either way JSOS isnt replacing Battle, thats lunacy.

Heath is now basically the same age Lloyd Meek was when he made his debut. Heath has plenty of time.
Big man who likes contact and has some skill including as a goal kicker.

He’s a good get for Melbourne who are without a decent key forward and with an aging Gawn. We just don’t have a road to senior football for Moose so it’s the right move for everyone.

A third rounder is about all we can expect.

JSOS is a Battle replacement, but does not replace Battle, if that makes sense. He will be better than Caminiti in the role in my view as I see Hammer as a forward.
Battle is AA, JSOS has never been that. Hoping he can cover while Aleer learns and Tauru develops.

Semantics but I did not say JSOS would replace him to the same quality

I said he would "cover" for him

What I meant was we got a good player who could play the same role to a decent standard. He won't be All-Australian so he's not as 'elite' as Battle but I do see him as a player who'd probably be best 23 in several finals-contending sides

Tauru is just a kid, looks like a kid in both his face and build and is another young draftee.

Imo he has superstar written all over him, just give him a couple of years to add some muscle. Silvagni isn’t battle but he’s a smart combative player who will strengthen our team down back and has shown how versatile he is.

I liked Battle and I was hoping he’d stay but he’s gone and I’m very happy with what we’ve replaced him with.

The league is replete with good rucks playing good football at second clubs after debuting after 21 years old. We have Marshall and we are about to have De Koning, all with Dodson in the wings. We should facilitate the trade and move on.

OTOH, Melbourne don't have much of a 2025 draft hand...

To me the issue is JSOS isnt gonna do the Camma role. Camma or Howard are really the only two who can play true fullback.

Wilkie aside cause hes a freak JSOS/Aleer/Tauru and structure need to replace Battles role unless Tauru turns into Battle with a 4 foot vertical over this off season Battle isnt being replaced in any capacity.

Again, we got the outcome we wanted, we did draft a kid with good upside but were scrambling to replace Battle who has proven to be an enormous loss.

Tomato/tomato to me.

JSOS aint Battle and you made the point weve had to bring in two guys, worth alot more, to "cover" for him.

Ultimately we only win that move if Tauru turns out to be better than Battle, hard to argue otherwise.

Sure, dont disagree.I just dont think you can argue we can replace Battle, or even cover for him with what were getting in and even if you did Aleer and JSOS cost more money than Battle did.

Demeaning and embarassing that she notes an extra $400k a year in his salary (remembering this is his job) is too good to refuse?

Seriously this ****ing board and is obsession with labelling every wife or partner as some money grubbing gold digger.

I can tell you right now if i got offered a 60% pay rise for the same work right now i would discuss it with my wife and i can tell you exactly what shed say.
You're better than me - I'd tell her that I'd changed jobs! She couldn't care less where I work, as long as I'm happy and it pays the bills! I got headhunted to my current role with a 50% increase in salary........my missus said "happy days!"

Boyd played one game mate. In round 1.

He wasn’t seen again.

Heath played 4 - after PROVING he had improved enough to get a jumper.

You still banging on about Boyd when neither player will be on our list in 2026 is the weirdest argument, especially as Boyd did nothing to prevent Heath from playing 😂

Can we get May just so he doesn’t dominate us lol? Seems to play the game of his career against St Kilda lately.
Trade Wilkie for overs then grab Mayfor a packet of chips.

We only need to have lunch with him and the bulldogs will wet themselves and offer him 4 years. They have become obsessed with us so it won’t happen but that would be the ultimate troll.

Why are they worth a lot more? My point was that they costed the same as Battle - except one extra list spot which I don't see as an issue

I'd argue we get a positive return from that deal if we start making finals and our defence returns to being one of the best in the comp. I don't think its a case of player X is better than player Y. If the team as a whole sees finals success over the next few years then we won't be looking back
