2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

This is the full list of AFL clients that Wilkies agent, Greg Size represents. Callum is obviously his biggest client by a country mile and old mate is clearly looking to use him and his commission to fill his pockets. So he's decided to shop him around. Obviously we can't control these things but itd be nice if we could advise him to seek better representation that knows how to manage star players.

I'd say Wilkie needs to get a new player manager. If Tom Clurey, who was delisted last year, headlines the players you manage then that speaks volumes.

I mean if the Western Bulldogs want to pay him that much to play Fullback for St Kilda, thats fine with me tbh

Everyones forgetting what Ross said on Agenda Setters regarding Nasiah. It was going to get nasty. Some things are not tradeable. We're not a club thats gonna be walked over. Cal can ****ing lump it, or we get Darcy and Freijah in return

If that was what we thought about a player that was out of contract, what do you think we'll do for our contracted vice captain 😂

Battle looked a like a player built for finals so far at the Hawks. It was messy bit of list management and hard to justify unless we end up with Tauru as an absolute star and the club making regular finals over the next few seasons.

Heaps wanted to let Battle go because he was going to be on $900k and are now justifying the wages of JSOS and Aleer along with TDK, it's a bit bizarre to be honest.
If Tauru turns out to be a superstar that will be fantastic but it was not a list management decision.
We did not know we would get Tauru the day Battle left, we didn't know we had him until we called his name. Not was lucky.
In saying that to continue to harp on one of the few mistakes Lyon and Bassatt have made in 3 plus years is a bit churlish in my view.
And I don't see the connection between Battle and paying two FA's and Aleer. All Battle did was contribute to the huge surplus we had to go after those players, TBH the majority on here would have preferred to keep Battle then not have to worry about JSOS, but the mistake was made, and they need to be paid for.
The big question is, have the Saints learned from the Battle mistake? The have acknowledged they were caught out, and so far this off season have not put a foot wrong, so it is promising.

I was comparing the Tauru + JSOS package to Battle. Aleer isn't that relevant from my POV, I think he's just an upgrade on Cordy who was on similar coin to the 600k Aleer has been offered as the base deal iirc? An extra layer of depth with upside to become a B-grader

So imo its JSOS 800k + Tauru 150k = 950k Battle (iirc that was our final offer to him?)

If we want to compare Battle vs Tauru directly then yeah Tauru will have to be multi-AA and probably premiership player but I genuinely think he has the upside for it IF we develop him properly - which Damian Carroll has shown he should be able to do given the development of Nas and guys like Garcia/Pou who could be on a similar trajectory to stardom
For starters with a far superior athleticism, Tarau is faster, a much better mark and spoiler than Battle in his first year. There's no buts about it. Battle after 8 years in the system is a better decision maker and kick which is a given. JSoS in my mind is also an improved version of Battle if he can play consistent football without injuries. JSoS can actually play a key back role, where as Battle is mostly a 3rd tall who can sometimes pick up a key forward. Apples and oranges. Battle looks good when the system suits him, e.g. played as a spare man and others covering for him. As a one on one defender, he'll look awful due to lack of speed, height and athleticism in general. Still a good player though, just that he is not the awesome CHB everyone else make him out to be.

what should we expect for moose? 3rd rounder? would it be moose for aleer with a sweetener coming from us?

with viney ageing. trac out the door. oliver dealing with serious issues. sounds like flanders best aim for game time is with the dees.
Why? Flanders can be our no. 1 mid (Macrae in a more support role, Steele likely to move), At Melbourne, they have Viney, Oliver in front of him.

Ah that part. So, semi realistically what would you ask for from the dogs IF May replaced Wilkie (which I know plenty couldn't stomach).
Realistically - Joel Freijah, Ryley Sanders and Jedd Busslinger while we're at it. **** these shitty compromised draft picks

You want to make our contracted vice captain your second highest player behind Bont to push for a premiership? We'll take your future

I'd start by asking for Sam Darcy though.

:100:% our kids are the best we have had for sometime.

My point re Tauru is generally key talls take time, I think its unrealistic for supporters to expect Alix to have a consistent impact as early as next year. Nas is an outside flanker/mid and he has taken 4 years to reach his best. Mitch Owens as a example in his first year he looked like the next Stewart Leowe, this year at times he was lucky to hold his spot in the side.

Unless young players are well developed midfielders eg Boxshall kids take time.
:tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

And to think I thought Eli Templeton was the next Tony Lockett.

Out: Heath
In: May

Out: Wilkie if he wants out
In: Freijah, this year's Bulldogs first.

Assuming May (a premiership defender) pulls his head in for a year or two, how much better or worse does this make us?
I'd hate that, not only is May a renowned prick, he has dropped away so much over the last 18 months
