2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

How strong is the sdk talk?

And dogs won't part with naughton, why would they and why would he
If the dogs are desperate for a defender why not play Naughton in the spot he was recruited to play and let the Nepo beanstalk babies Darcy and Croft take care of the scoring? 🤷

When do we think the Wilkie situation is going to go nuclear? Im looking forward to the drama.

I have a good mate who is a Cats fan, I caught up with him last week for the first time since Ross was rehired - he's STILL going on about what a terrible mistake we made taking him back, how he'll go nowhere with him, but also reckons he's got some inside dirt that he won't divulge about his coaching methods which is a total indictment on him and a sure sign of our future failure with him around.

So maybe if this Wilkie thing does get nasty, maybe we might see something like that come out.

I won't hold my breath waiting though, I still call absolute fabrication on both the Wilkie disharmony and the Ross coaching stuff too.

The club hasn't had this kind of momentum for a long time. This is what can be achieved when serious people with high standards run a football club. Those who were critical of Ross hiring all his friends, this is why he did it. Everyone has to be on the same page and for that to happen, it all comes down to trust. Everything outside the club is noise and clickbait. The club is in complete control of the narrative. Which hasn't been the case since 09-10. This is how you build a club to compete for a premiership.

Does the recent Wilkie talk on bigfooty have any legs?

Hypothetically if he was to ask for a trade, from my perspective i am not letting him go under any circumstance. He can sit out for two years if it comes to it.
Going to go out on a limb and say it'll end like all the other stories from the last few months...

Probably not, but I am a very spiteful person. I'd rather see Cal in the VFL held to his contract for 2 years than playing for Bevo and those arrogant twats because he couldnt negotiate the salary he wanted. Sick of this player power bullshit. Its why Im not fussed about flanders either.
Tbh. Highly doubtful Wilkie is even interested in leaving.
Just a case of yet another player manager smelling the $$$ this year when we’ve got them.

I do think it’s a bit of chutzpah that players who signed a contract they were presumably happy with at the time, think they can hold the club to ransom.

I’d love to see the club that would put its foot down. But I’m. Not sure we will because we really don’t want to lose him.

Anyway, won’t happen to us next year - Windy, and this one is all due to the fact we’ve been throwing $$$ around like confetti.

Interesting that despite all the rumours, apparently no media organisation has tried to get him on the phone for an interview
Wilkie will just say that he lets his manager handle the contract stuff, which is probably what's happening anyway. I reckon his manager is trying to get him a pay bump and some extra years on his deal. Maybe Cal talked to Bevo, maybe he didn't, but somebody's leaking that to the press and it smells a lot like player manager. Then again, I'm not sure what the Dogs think is going to happen here. Even if Cal demands a trade, I'd expect our response to be 'no'.

From the manager's perspective, the worst-case scenario is the status quo. They're never going to be worse off as a result of this agitating. Might as well gun for a new deal while Cal is still elite, since he's probably not getting a big payday on the back end of his current deal, given his age. If they get it - sweet. If they don't - status quo. Might as well take a shot.

The question Stav is if the Bulldogs were prepared to trade the necessary pieces in a trade would we pull the trigger and do it?

That’s the question we need to ask ourselves.

We need to seriously consider that they will be prepared to eat a shit sandwich to get this done, otherwise they just look sillier and more desperate by the minute.

Presumably the Bulldogs have gamed this out.
Everyone is tradable for the right price.

I love Wilkie and have been a fan since watching him in the sanfl but I’d still trade him if the price is right. You’ve got 30 year old undersized slightly slow defender playing above his weight. He’s been amazingly durable I hope it continues but i don’t see Wilkie as a guy with 4 or 5 years left.

What the price would need to be is another matter but he has one. If we’re not winning a flag in 2026 or 2027 we need his replacement on our list.

I’d certainly be talking to May as a ready made backup with a year or two left.

Immediate cover plus a stupid offer from the dogs would make you think imo.

I was 100% confident in Wilkie staying until I read this. This guy was so far off the mark with Macrae last year that this has got me concerned.😂
