2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

I have to say his game against the pies last season was pretty special. nearly 30 possessions and was playing mid as well. Let's hope his improvement goes up another notch by becoming more damaging when he gets the ball. Towards end of the season, he got a couple of assists by lowering the eyes to hit up targets in the forward line.

I think people haven't been noticing how much he does still. Even if he does nothing more than get the ball off the ground and into the hands of others to use it to attack he's super valuable. 22 primped poodles looks good at the dog show but you need a couple of staffies to keep people out of your yard.

Gringo’s priceless analogies are back…all is good in Saints BF world 😍

This year they're letting poodle crossbreeds into the Royal Melb Show. The pure breeders are losing their minds and I love to see it.

Sounds like the 800k+ contract

If the club think Windy can justify that amount then I'll back it

But there's a lot of competition in that engine room

Have we? 32 year old Jack Macrae, Steele who might not be here, Garcia on 26 games, Boxshall on 11. Hunter Clark, Dow, Jones. Maybe Henry?

We can move Nas and Hall on ball but rob Peter to pay Paul. We might get Flanders and CMac but our midfield is super thin and not many will hold Windhager out.

It's definitely not a premiership winning midfield currently, but I don't see how you could have described it any more negatively lol.

On brand though.

With that midfield you just disparaged, St Kilda was 10th in the AFL for clearances. Above AFL average too.

Seems like a pretty decent building block to me - considering we have got and what we have coming through.

🤷

Vic is the embodiment of tony74

Not the same person but has a face as well as good mail.
He’s a great bloke Joffa.

Self-made and a survivor of the big “C” against the odds.

Loves both the Saints and the Zebras. Puts his money where his heart is, both with sport and with the community.

Macrae only turned 31 in August. Won't be 32 until round 21 next year.

I still have no understanding as to how the dogs actually think this plays out.

Wilkie says yes, make me a pug.

Dogs offer p10 and p28.

We say no.

They offer p10 and F1.

We say no.

We say Sam Darcy.

They say no.

Like wtf 😂
Wilkie’s not a dumb guy. He’ll never ask for a trade for this reason.

He’s just doing his due diligence. If any normal logical person loves their employer and workplace, gets approached hard by a competitor, more often than not they’re happy to take the call, but knowing they’re going to get looked after in the process.

I wouldn’t be surprised if club knew this was very likely coming and have left cap space for a top up when Wilkie takes on the captaincy.

Everyone will be happy, except the pugs

I used to work in Footscray, and let’s just say they’re a special bunch that way 🤣
Like saying all Saints fans are Carlisle St junkies. Plenty of Dogs fans from other than Footscray.
My whole family are Bulldogs fans and are great football people. Very down to earth and humble. See the Saints like they are, a small Vic club always battling. I was jealous but very happy for the family and my district in 2016.
Most on here are ok, there are just a few absolute nuff's who actually believe a couple of scrappy dp's would get Wilkie.
In my view the supporters are fine, however their club is a top down authority completely owned by Beveridge.

If the dogs are desperate for a defender why not play Naughton in the spot he was recruited to play and let the Nepo beanstalk babies Darcy and Croft take care of the scoring? 🤷

Or Buttlicker who gets midfield numbers in the VFL.

Peter Ryan & Marc McGowan - The Age

Heath is taking a 3 year deal at the demons. They were the first of several clubs to come after him. He sees his path to being a number 1 ruck easiest at Melbourne behind Gawn.

Trade required.

Good mates with Windy and trying to leverage that. However Windhager wants to stay with the Saints. His future should be sorted by early next week.

They really want Flanders and King is a big fan, he has already spoken with him. But he will Meet with the 4 vic clubs to pitch to him what his future would look like with them.

I think we will be hurt if we let go of Heath.

What’s the opposite of “Exodus”?
Asking for our friends in the media… 😝

There’s clearances and there’s good clearances. Marshall’s hack kick forward = poor clearance, Nas sharks the tap and then pin point kick to a leading forward = good clearance. Just like inside 50s, quality is better than quantity. Under Richo and Ratten, they would both moan that we had more inside 50s but lost the game badly, and don’t understand why. Only if our last kick is better they say. Not $hit, Sherlock. But if you can’t get a clean clearance and everything leading to the final kick are fumbles and hospital handballs, how is the last kick going to be good? That’s why we need a ruckman that can tap (TDK), mids that can win the ball cleanly (Flanders, Macarae) and give it to a teammate in better position or on the outside (Nas, McKenzie )
