2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

I still reckon that suspension was a crock of s**t.
I really admired the way the coach went in to bat for him publicly as well.

Like saying all Saints fans are Carlisle St junkies. Plenty of Dogs fans from other than Footscray.
My whole family are Bulldogs fans and are great football people. Very down to earth and humble. See the Saints like they are, a small Vic club always battling. I was jealous but very happy for the family and my district in 2016.
Most on here are ok, there are just a few absolute nuff's who actually believe a couple of scrappy dp's would get Wilkie.
In my view the supporters are fine, however their club is a top down authority completely owned by Beveridge.
Don’t get all serious on us Jof and get in the way of a good laugh. In all seriousness, there’s only one club that has a song about chihuahuas biting and roaring…

The league is replete with good rucks playing good football at second clubs after debuting after 21 years old. We have Marshall and we are about to have De Koning, all with Dodson in the wings. We should facilitate the trade and move on.

OTOH, Melbourne don't have much of a 2025 draft hand...
And what happens if we don't have both Marshall and Heath. We are left with De Koning, and Dodson. Not enough rucks

Marshall is contracted and I think we keep him. The Heath move makes sense for the lad, good luck to him, we've just brought in TDK and drafted Dodzilla. From what I can gather the latter showing plenty of signs to make losing Heath palatable. IMO just means we keep Roma, which is great, as he's a cultural centrepiece and as you say, we need the big men, especially considering King's horror injury run.

Also means we basically get to tell Geelong to GAGF, which is pleasing.

Have we? 32 year old Jack Macrae, Steele who might not be here, Garcia on 26 games, Boxshall on 11. Hunter Clark, Dow, Jones. Maybe Henry?

We can move Nas and Hall on ball but rob Peter to pay Paul. We might get Flanders and CMac but our midfield is super thin and not many will hold Windhager out.
Nas wants to play midfield

Macrae, Boxshall, Garcia, Pou, Travaglia, Wilson are all seen as mids by Ross according to his pressers even though I don’t think they all play full time mids but even as a mix it's quite a few mouths to feed

Add on Hall

Then there’s Flanders and/or potentially another draftee

Keeler can ruck. Howard too. Add another string to Hammer's bow. King could put his big boy pants on and pinch hit like Harry McKay has learned to do.

Or we just play an extra mid and work on roving to the opposition ala Jason Blake or Shaun Grigg.

Definitely options.

Doesn't change the argument. That is a very young, inexperienced and unproven midfield. Personally I see Trav and Wilson as more likely wingmen types.

Even adding Flanders, midfield not going to be our strength. Nas goes in and makes it as a mid would move us up the ladder a bit. It will be interesting to see how they configure it.

Have we considered the hostage possibility?

"I admire the Feeling Football Club for their prudent financial acumen. It's really wonderful that they are able to manage their list within the constraints of the salary cap and I think their success is fabulous to see."

Think Garcia and Boxshall can be big pieces of this puzzle.

Hugo had a great year. Look out next year. Still massive upside.

Box showed some excellent signs in his first season.

Add Nas, Hall, Windy and hopefully a fit Pou and we're in better shape than we have been for many years.

These young guys just need to grown in confidence and play with swagger.

Yeah it’s a bit of an awkward one because while all the other positions are pretty much set the most important area of the ground is still a work in progress. I’m expecting a breakout from Garcia and hopefully Phillipou and while I wouldn’t have paid 1.7 for TDK I’m confident he’ll give the midfield a big boost.

Glad the club put the work in to keep Windhager. That loss would have really hurt the club.

I still can't understand the people on here that were happy to let him go. The kid will be a gun and a leader.
I didn't see one person say that they were 'happy" to let him go.

I challenge you to find people that said that? You will be lucky to find even 1 or 2.

It's great that Windy has signed on. I believe he has the ability to grow further.

But you don't have to embellish what some supporters were saying. It's almost lying.

In reality modern footy has 5 mids (wings are mids) and you need a solid 8/9 man rotation for it anyway.

If anything our midfield might still be young but it’s complimentary and dynamic now. Nas is a true dusty/danger game breaker and all the pieces around him work really well together.

Plenty will say it’s not a premiership winning midfield but Geelongs recent flag winning midfield was more complimentary than star studded.

Plenty were happy to let him go for the money he reportedly wanted. Plenty.

two? not even one of
Yeah I’d take Croft in a straight swap based on what I saw of him. But no way they trade a father son after 1 year. They wouldn’t be prepared to trade anything that we’d take as a minimum.
It’s why it’s a waste of time, or them just making us cough up more money like we have done to other clubs.

I think the plan remains to play both Marshall and TDK. But if Geelong overwhelm us with an offer, then there are plenty of rucks similar to Heath around to put on the list at low or no cost.

Then we pray.
