Traded Brandon Starcevich - traded to West Coast as part of a 3-way trade with Brisbane and Fremantle

So, an assistance package for Brisbane then, considering they'd get nothing for him if we took him as FA?
No, it would be an assistance package to you because if you took him as a FA, you would lose pick 2. Essentially, the AFL are giving you starce and pick 2 because your club is so poorly run. So find another reason to cry about our handouts.

Yes, but if you took him as a FA you wouldn't get pick 2.
So we just let him go to the PSD, or Brisbane take our third rounder then.

Asking for it not to affect our FA compo only affects us as a request. Saying no, giving us a pick then having to trade that pick to Brisbane, a club that would be receiving no compo to begin with, is priority assistance for Brisbane, not WCE.

Looking back at how your club has done trades recently, do you really think that's what they'll try to do?

They gave your club a priority pick and and academy because it was so poorly run.

Guess we should ask for the same stuff then.

Obviously not, but it's what they should do.

I agree that it is stupid to give clubs priority picks that they have to trade but they did it with Norf and hard to see them not doing it again.

On face of it it seems more defensible to media if 'da pick will be used for a veteran player.'

While us posters love the idea of using the PSD to sign uncontracted players, in the end it's not how (most) clubs operate. Especially for a player they're offering a 4-6 year deal at ~$900k.

I'm aware of that but if the AFL want to help Brisbane and not us with this exchange, then the club has an obligation to do exactly that.

I guess it depends if WC were going to use their own picks to trade or not. If they were, then the bonus picks helping to facilitate the deal helps WC as much as it does Brisbane.

It's not like the AFL doesn't have form in this matter. They gave North their picks which conviniently could be traded to Freo for Logue and Tucker.

Just like they did with Liam Baker, West Coast have signalled their intent to get Starcevich across with a ludicrous contract.

For their sake, hopefully the AFL hand them an end of first round compo pick to get him. Otherwise I spose it’s the hawks first rounder.

Eagles fans when the club trades away a good pick for a player instead of '3rD r0uND3r oR wAlKI hIM 2 tHE pRE-SeAS0n dRAfT'

Cry a river, they’re literally giving you a pick to use rather than having to cough something up yourselves. Yet they’re not helping you out? Touch grass

So Stkilda should just give Marshall up for nothing because they’re getting TDK and Silvagni in Free Agency ? That’s consistent with your lining of thinking.

Your team is the team electing to ignore his Free Agency status because it clearly benefits you.

Funny how worked up Eagle fans are getting, when absolutely everything points to an end of first round compensation or equivalent trade value. To top it off, they’re getting the pick for free anyways, so same result for you.

No use getting worked up, it’s inevitable what’s going to happen here

Is Marshall a free agent?

Probably shouldn't make this comment if you don't know the answer.

Brisbane get nothing if any other clubs gets him via FA.

You'll only benefit because it's WCE and the AFL want to help your club out even more.

Again, due to picking up Allen and Draper, Brisbane get NOTHING if Starcevich chooses any other club.

The AFL will look to give WCE 'assistance' to appear that they're helping a club down the bottom when, in reality, it only helps Brisbane get more points to match Annable.

No use getting worked up, it’s inevitable what’s going to happen here

We'll see.
