If WCE get an end of 1st/start of 2nd round picks as part of their "draft assistance package" they "have to trade" that'll be the chip to placate the Lions
Feels like the biggest no brainer of the trade period tbh

Actually, we're losing Ah Chee to adelaide as well. So the net would be neutral. This is false. Brisbane would receive a replacement via a compensation pick if they were “losing a player”, but they are also gaining Allen and Draper, so the net change due to Free Agency would be positive. Brisbane are gaining a player.
So like I said, not losing a player.Actually, we're losing Ah Chee to adelaide as well. So the net would be neutral.
Free agency value isnt the same as trade value. That should be pretty obvious.Because free agency isn't the same thing as a contracted player for 2 years.
I though that was pretty obvious.
Who knows what we're doing? Find out next week, I guess. Brisbane should be happy with Hawks 2nd rounder in that case, considering they get nothing if we did lodge a FA offer.
Clearly it would be a case of the AFL looking to gift more charity to Brisbane if they don't waive the FA penalty but give us a 1st rounder we have to trade instead.

I was referring to losing a player in that role. We would have to replace Starcevich, which is what that pick would be used for.So like I said, not losing a player.
Well, we could just tell him to nominate for the PSD and it ends up the same way anyway. There's zero risk he ends up at another club.
Dunno why we're being nice to Brisbane when they're poaching our captain.
Can Brisbane match?Once we match, you only have a choice of trading for him or taking him in national draft. no PSD.
I doubt Starcevich will last to your second round pick.
So, the rich get richer?
Equalization at it's finest![]()

Come on. Like handing over pick 19 for a player who wants to leave is right. Brisbane are well within their rights to extort WC for a high pick given WC want to keep the OA compensation pick. But it’s hardly fair or right. WC are equally within their rights to offer nothing and get him at some later point for much less. Why not.. of course we can if we want to. Put it this way - if West Coast put an offer to Starcevich and we don't match, it'll dilute their pick 2 Allen compo.
If West Coast don't put an offer and ask Starcevich to scheme with them so he can get there via national draft or delisted free agency or some other mechanism, I don't know if Starce is that much in love with the new club to take all that risks and compromise his next step.
Logical thing would be West Coast trade for him if the offer is indeed 6 years. They've shown their hand on how willing and keen they are - then do the right thing with Lions as well.
We are losing a premiership defender. He's integral to our structure and will take some effort replacing, even a end of first round pick trade compromise is a joke.
You’re measuring his value in the free agency market to another team and asserting that as his value to you, that’s not correct. This is not true though, it determines his market value. Essentially making the only two profitable options for Brisbane, the eagles or him staying. Whether him staying means you can’t afford Ridley in the cap is another contention.
In terms of possible results for Brisbane it leaves the following options:
1. He stays and Brisbane can afford Ridley/don’t lose Bailey
2. He goes and Brisbane get something decent from west coast
3. He stays and Brisbane lose players/cant afford ridley
4. He goes anywhere else
To pretend it’s not a factor is as silly as pretending a potential Annable bid isn’t a factor.
Where do I say Lion’s can’t ask for value? We are happy for West Coast to take him for nothing via RFA. But I don't think they want to, it'll compromise their pick 2. So the next logical step is trade which means Lions can ask for fair value.
West Coast are willingly moving away from taking him for free route so it'll benefit them. Why can't Lions ask for value then?

Let’s not forget that the reason pick 19 is expected to slide is due to draft concessions which have been afforded to Brisbane in particular.I'd say they are better off giving pick 19 which would become like pick 25 somewhere after all the academy, NGA, father son picks. Starcevich for pick 25 in an extremely shallow draft is daylight robbery.
Like I said, West Coast can offer nothing but they are also asking Starcevich to take a risk alongside them. I don't know if the player whose on the move is willing to compromise their future on behalf of the new club to that level.
You are essentially asking Starcevich to let go of RFA and wait it out till some point in national draft or even later. Not sure if he'll be that keen having an uncertain future. I think some other club will jump in and swipe him.
And you're gaining the captain of a club from a bottom 4 side, who plays the position you're most desperately in need of, as well as the #1 ruckman from another bottom 4 side. All for the price of absolutely nothing. We're losing a premiership defender whom we'd rather keep.
Now we have to go and find one. It's not even a equivalent trade on a shallow draft.
Nowhere have I said WC shouldn’t offer anything to Brisbane. Stop muddying the waters. If you want West Coast to not use RFA to protect pick 2, as well as get Starcevich for nothing via some other means - in the process Lions also end up with zero - it essentially implies Lions can't get value.

Nice from WC would be Hawks 2nd and not bidding on AnnableIf you want us to play nice in trade, pick 19 is fair value. Or a future second - but if I was west coast I'd rather trade something in this draft which is not rated highly.

If you want a premiership defender, we can do a straight swap for Tom Cole, who plays the same position.
The argument he’s making is hilarious, we’re losing a fun medium defender who we’d rather keep and WCE are pushing out their captain in order to get pick 2, which he isn’t worth. However they’re being hard done by in all thisWe're losing a premiership defender whom we'd rather keep.

Tom Cole's a small defender from our premiership team. Would probably go alright in a better side. Both incoming players are with injury cloud - it's not someone we're going to plug n play. We're taking that risk because we are in window and looking for ready made solutions who hopefully stay injury free in future. Case in point - Doedee - have seen him once in park in the last 2 years but that's the risk / reward we are playing with.
I have no idea who Tom Cole is, but we are likely to look inward to our list and see who can step up and be that small defender.
No, we're asking for draft assistance, due to being the shittest team in AFL history, and this one makes the most sense. The argument he’s making is hilarious, we’re losing a fun medium defender who we’d rather keep and WCE are pushing out their captain in order to get pick 2, which he isn’t worth.
