Is he though?

He's kicked 92 goals in 60 games for us, which is not a bad return. Not spectacular, but pretty good especially at his age.

The problem is that's all he brings at the moment. Outside of a goal and a half a game, he's a liability. There's nothing wrong with hangers and flashy goals, but they should be the cherry on top of the meat & potatoes of hard running, assists, tackling, forward pressure. With him right now, it's the other way around. He's all sizzle and not nearly enough steak.

(Sorry for the repeated food analogies!)
He's still only just turned 23.

Bloke in his 4th/5th season who's had a bright start due to his career due to natural talent, then hit a flat spot where his weaknesses are exposed and it becomes clear he needs to add more hard work and diversity to his game?

He wouldn't exactly be the first player in history in that situation.

Yeah but I was talking about when McGrath and O'Reilly were finally paired together as the go-to FB and CHB in 1994.
Fair enough. By 1994 bairstow was past it. Brownless had one of the best periods of his career in the second half of 1994 dominating at centre half foward and easily our best grand final player so he was not past it. Couch still had another all australian to come. So he wasnt past it either. Stoneham was injured not past it albeit the outcome is the same. Hinkley was still pretty solid in 1994 but his injury problems started up then.

James Kelly and Steve Johnson mid-2000s come to mind.

Sorry, to be clear I meant "past their best", not "past it" per se. Couchy's best was pretty clearly '89 through '91, Brownless was at his best before Ablett moved to FF, Hinkley was clearly not the same since his almost-Brownlow year of '92 and Stoneham's injuries had limited him from his early-90s excellence.

Still very good footballers? Yes, some of them. But not at their peak together a la the '07 - '09 premiership sides.

Sure, but for every player in history who has gone on to have a good career from there, I'd bet there would be at least 10 who have been unable to overcome their deficiencies and never reached those heights.

For the record, I'm not writing him off by any means. I'd also prefer not to trade him, although if an irresistible deal was put on the table then it'd be hard to say no given his performance so far.

He clearly has the talent. Time will tell if he has the application, attitude and character to go with it.

How many players at Geelong in the last 20 years have finished top 10 in a B&F as a 21/22 year old and then faded into obscurity without injuries being the problem?

I don't know what exactly has gone wrong this year. But he looked like a breakout star in finals last year. I would really hope this is just a case of him needing to mentally and physically mature rather than him not being up to it when he looked easily up to it last year.

Knevitt is a bust. This is delaying the iKnevittable.

Can't wait until round 1 next year when we line up with a centre bounce quartet of: SDK, Knevitt, Mullin & Worpel 😁

IF ...

I was running the negotiations surrounding the desired exit of big Charlie ...

THEN ...

I'd be saying this to the Swans: Don't bother us unless you're prepared to give us Blakey. And this to the Suns: Don't even contact us unless Bailey Humphrey is part of the deal. And this to the Cats: We'll take Connor O’Sullivan.

All 3 clubs...

I think the suns could get it done

I don't think he is.

He's a 193cm with good endurance and the ability to play both inside and outside. To me it's been pretty clear that he's just not big/strong enough to really impact things.

His first game this season he had 11 tackles and 21 possessions so we've seen glimpses of talent. But to me it's not unreasonable that if he really put some size on (5 -8kgs) he could be a solid midfielder.

If North was willing to pay a good portion (half) of his remaining salary to help them meet the salary floor, while then opening up a list spot for him, would it make him more enticing?
Id say no, not quick enough, good player but don't see where he would get a game with us

His foot speed, or lack of is often spoken about as a reason why he's found himself on the outer of North's key midfield rotations crew

So not sure how exactly he'd fit into our rotations especially as we seem to value that foot speed

Definitely not a size issue. Just doesn’t impact games enough.

Simpkin is a very good athlete so not sure where this has come from. It's his size and perhaps consistency that is likely the issue

Stanley and Knevitt both with 1 year 2026 contracts.

List spots getting tighter at the Cats in 26

GO Catters

Has knevitt been announced? (Though with a thin draft i expect he stays).
Stevens and Wiltshire are in trouble.

Surely Stevens gets a contract before Clohesy.

Clohesy is a rookie so him going doesnt free up a spot Stevens does. Unless you mean Ted gets a trade to somewhere and we delist and re rookie Stevens (which is possible).

CE will like this from the Code Sport player write-up

Worpel - 4
Far from the free agent’s finest night. Fumbles and turnovers proved costly. Geelong has shown interest, but do they need him?
