Start of the year I tipped lions vs hawks and Lions to win. Not far off regardless what happens now. Any side are capable.

This is it for me. The prelims are as unpredictable as they come this week.

Pies have been poor for some time. Their only decent win was against perhaps the worst minor premier of all time.
Timely win then, wasn't it?

Do you recall Adelaide were faves or second faves for the flag for the last month of the home and away season?

You would have made good $$$ betting against them given you knew how bad they were...

It is not about Adelaide, it is about your 3-5 record in the last 8 , when other than Adelaide the wins were against Demons (barely) and Richmond. Those 5 losses include losses to 2 of the 3 other teams still in it. The question is, should we interpret the win against Adelaide as a return to your former form, or a win against a team that is now statistically the worst minor premier since the top 8 was implemented.

No doubt the Pies of earlier in the season deserve to be 1st or second favourites, but that isn't the team we've seen for most of the 8 week of footy, and Adelaide proved in their straight sets to be an unreliable barometer of return to form. In the end Adelaide were barely favourites as minor premiers on their home deck against Hawthorn.

'Adelaide are statistically the worst minor premier since the top 8 was implemented', courtesy of being broken by Collingwood....

Collingwood and Hawthorn have played in 40 (21 & 19) grand finals since 1952. (Not counting the grand finals replays either). That's 40/73 seasons and they have never met in a grand final. The stats even holds up to 1925 when Hawthorne entered the VFL. Half of all grand finals either team have made and never met.

Its not going to happen.
If Hawks beat Geelong, Collingwood go on to lose.
If Geelong wins, Collingwood win. (Also due to the AFL era omen that a devastating late season loss to the Hawks 90, 10, 23, 25 (im jumping the gun) has lead to a flag.

So essentially what you're saying is if Hawthorn beat Geelong on Friday, then on Saturday Daicos still start kicking the ball backwards to Logan Morris?

It is wide open in my view.

My Bomber neighbour says whoever wins on Saturday wins the flag.

I still think Brisbane have the most quality and skill on the park, even with their injuries.I would be very proud to beat them if we pull it off, and injuries, venue and balance favour us so it close to even.

Cats have an advantage on paper. Less injuries, better coach, better balance, extra rest. Mitchell will have to outcoach Chris Scott for the Hawks to win. Ginniboy to whip out a Cotton On T shirt if they do.

Impartially it would be great for the Lions to win the flag, a lot of sides would start to emulate the skills game. They have been my tip all year.

However in my cruel Collingwood heart I want to leave the other three sides in tears as we stride to 17.

Yes, like elite kicking through congestion to hit him. Or after following up from a contested mark. The footy gods can't allow the sin of Hawks v Pies at any cost.

Reminder, you’re trying to back up your claim that:

Despite the fact that it happened last year, and has already happened twice since the pre-finals bye was introduced 10 years ago. Maybe crunch those numbers again.
Still think a team from outside the top 4 can win it this year?

As I said once the top 4 was finalised, noone from outside the top 4 was winning 4 games in a row, including at least two of the last three premiers.

I hope you really enjoyed the 24 hours after posting this after my side lost a prelim, because I’m going to enjoy you getting hit by the karma bus all summer.

Fadge is a lot quieter in this thread now, I noticed. Was fairly chirpy all year.
He's been quiet for me for the whole last week. HAven't heard a nip out of him
