Football's biggest travesty was him wasting those years on the Gold Coast. Now this next bit makes me vomit, but imagine his legacy (in football output terms) if he rolled over to Hawthorn or Richmond instead for those dynasties after Geelong (or simply stayed a Cat and they won a couple more flags).GAJ is my top player from 2000 onwards.

His level was incredible 2011-2014 but it cooked his body carrying the hopeless Suns. I think his peak would've lasted a few more years at a proper club. Probably moving to a forward-mid destroyer like Dusty 2014-2019.
His 2nd stint at the Cats he had some nice seasons but the body was only just hanging on.
Oh ok I thought it was Nathan Brown's opinion. But its his opinion. That doesnt mean he has lost the plot. Not everyone is going to see things the same.
No I agree that he made his own bed in that regard. He also fell out with Bomber and was burnt out being the son of God in a small bubble. He wanted to leave and raise more money for those at home. Understandable. The only thing I can say is that it was his choice to leave - he wanted to chase the big money. Interesting that Ablett Jnr, Judd and Franklin all left their first clubs. Martin stayed put, there were offers from Adelaide and North Melbourne in the $1.6 mil to $1.7mil range, he chose to stay at Richmond for $1.1 mil or $1.2 mil from memory.

I always said that but plenty disagreed… those GC years put an enormous dent in his career. He should’ve been playing finals and big games in his prime, instead he was racking up meaningless possessions in huge losses.
Wanganeen should be higher than that.
The guy was a champion half back flanker who booted over 200 goals and to illustrate it was no fluke, he went over to Port Adelaide and got the club running as captain.
Brave as they come and more importantly, a big game performer. Instrumental in finally delivering a premiership to Port Adelaide.
And sorry, Martin at four is absurd. His peak was brief. Brilliant finals player but hardly that much better than Darren Jarman who did just as much damage in finals and state of origin footy. A better all-round talent and if ever a player could be tagged as single-handedly winning a flag of his own boot, it was him. On two separate occasions mind you.

Don't judge anyone's situation. You haven't been in their shoes. It displays a real lack of class if you do. There was a lot going on in Ablett's life during his football career that motivated all of his decisions. He chose the big money and departed Geelong and headed to the Gold Coast.
He should of stayed with Geelong, but he didnt.

But I already raised that point in terms of us footy nuffies and what we care about.
Carey has always been overrated - not that he isn't among the best. He certainly is.
But he has become this strange purity test. Every flog seems to think that if he isn't listed as number 1, then their own football knowledge will be called into question. And I will be savaged for that opinion accordingly.
Stats are not everything. But they do matter. And his stats in no way justify quite the level of wank he gets.
Also Scarlett over SOS is another clown take. Not the same level of footballer - you think Scarlett kicks 200 goals on top of being the best defender in the league?
