So maybe Curnow to GCS for This year's and next year's 1st rounders. Even if the draft pool is shallow, we'll still need those picks for Walker. Better to trade someone who doesn't want to be there for someone who does.

Going to be very difficult if the 2 picks only rule stands BT...

GC will likely have a pick #13+ 1st rounder next year...

Like I said, if we finish 13th and the bid for Cody comes at #1... we'll need pick #11 as well...

Just wrap Cody in cotton wool next year and basically have him playing minimal rep footy. Have him do a lot of the pre season and be around the club as much as possible next year.
Reckon the club knew these changes were coming and that’s why we (informally) committed to Cody and he to us so early on.

If it's only 2 picks that can be used, we might end up paying 1.4M for that Ferrari. It costs more to move up the draft order and with a compromised 2027 draft future picks are almost worthless.

Yep fair call BUT so be it. If you have access to the best player in the draft but have to pay overs for him then you do it. It takes the fun out of it but you still do it.

If you said we could have access to Harley Reid in his draft year if we packaged up future draft capital into two top 12 picks then you're doing that every day of the week.

What are we saying…

Cody will cost 3 x 1st rounders??
No 2 picks depending where he is bid on.

In a worst case scenario he is bid on at 1, 2 picks inside 15 will be around the mark depending on the points system and the afls secret herbs and spice BS!

This brings a future first for Charlie right in play this year and he doesnt want to play for us so we move on and prepare for the future.

There's a massive difference between top 3 and 18
We don’t know where a club would draft Cody. We will end up matching a bid. So best not stress too much over the next 12 months, Cody will be ours.

Providing the rules a week or so before trade period is peak AFL. The most incompetent league in Australia.
Probably the worst administration of any “successful” league or sporting competition in the world. There are several reasons for this, but a major one is the parochialism, and the fact that Aussie Rules has a captive audience limited to Australia. If the competition had international exposure, there’s no way the administration could get away with being this incompetent.

Then so be it.

I'd rather pay the extra 10% and secure him then not have him at all.

Again, I'll ask... who are you willing to give up?

You've been adamant against trading Charlie... who's going to fetch us a top 10 pick... yes top 10 not bloody top 15 like you've been spouting...

Tigers finish last and bid on Cody at #1 we will need a top 10 pick to go with our first to match the bid...

In Wright we trust and Cody will be a Blue one way or another.

Not for picks though.
Still needs to be based on a gun/s.
Picks all of a sudden are more important to us now to secure Cody. Last week your argument had merit but not so much now.

Richmond will definitely bid. He was also eligible under their NGA
They can bid at pick 2 or 3 and Eagles will win the spoon again and North aint gunna be much better.

Only a No. 1 bid hurts us really forcing us to use a heavy draft capital.

I'm losing more and more interest in the AFL every year, and to be honest things like father/son are aspects that I do enjoy and that keep me interested. Daicos boys at Collingwood is great, and they are great players. Sure our sworn enemy, but it is super cool to have that legacy. I think that F/S is such a unique rule that we have in our game that help with that legacy/heritage aspect and I just don't understand why the AFL want to make it harder for these things to happen.

I know there is the argument around fairness/draft manipulation etc. but its not like the father son rule is not there for every club in the competition to access and use. Every Victorian club plus Brisbane (Fitzroy +academy) and Sydney (South Melbourne +academy) has the same advantage at this point, and then clubs like GWS and Gold Coast have strong academy rules that more than compensate. If anything Adelaide, Port, Freo, and West Coast are at the most disadvantage here but surely that can be worked through? (even still those four clubs were established in the late 80'/90's and would have some father son eligibility these days - Andrew Walker made his debut in 2004).
