Imagine if nick polled in games of 19 possessions. The main board would meltdown
IIRC Naicos polled last year in a game against Demons with 15 touches where he was subbed out during the 3rd quarter. He also got 2 votes in a loss v Sydney with 25 touches, no goals and 9 x clangers. In 2023 JHF had 13 touches v Geelong with 7 x clangers and got 3 votes. The whole award has become a bit of a farce.

Apparently, the Melbourne players just laughed incredulously when Jack Viney got 3 votes ahead of Nasiah in the Saints come from behind win.
If the Brownlow is to have any future credibility the AFL need to take the voting away from the umpires.
Geez, even AI would do a better job.
3 Votes - Neale Cripps
2 Votes - Nick Josh Daicos
1 Vote - Neale Cripps

Ok, I am going to do this. I can't believe this and I feel dirty but here we go.

I think it is wrong to blame the umpires. They have asked the AFL to allow them to see stats, obviously because they are busy doing their job and therefore may not notice who was really the best on ground. A simple way to confirm their thoughts or give them a chance to reassess. The AFL has said no.

It's the AFL we should be angry at. I imagine the umpires sometimes see a few fantastic moments and that stays in their minds and can influence their decisions.

All the other MVP awards in the afl, whether it be players or coaches or whatever, have access to stats. It doesn't compromise those awards and it won't compromise the Brownlow. Just let the umpires view the stats.

The actual hate nick gets on the main board is incredible, just a bunch of biased oppo supporters that have no clue about the game or how good certain players are.

One mentioned that he doesn’t dislike nick but it’s the media narrative around him lol, how is what the media writes nicks fault. It’s just hate for the sake of it and that he plays for the pies.

I respect all the guns from the opposition clubs like butters Dawson Anderson Rowell Cameron Dangerfield etc, would be nice if oppo supporters just acknowledge that’s he’s a genuine gun
Glad I am Blocked on the General AFL Board

Seems like a fair take, Umpires have an enough trouble focusing on officiating the game and adjusting to rule changes made by the AFL every year. AFL 100% should get all the blame

From the AFL website:

"The most surprising votes from Brownlow night

We look at the games where the umps and coaches differed in their votes
By Dejan Kalinic
Sep 22, 2025, 11:00

The biggest surprise of the night, possibly in Brownlow history, was Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera getting just two votes from the umpires in his stunning performance against Melbourne in round 20, when he single-handedly won the game as the Saints pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in VFL/AFL history. But Dees midfielder Jack Viney got the three votes from the umpires, with Wanganeen-Milera getting just two. Wanganeen-Milera, unsurprisingly, got 10 votes from the coaches in that game, while Viney got five.

But there were other games when the umpires and coaches were even more unaligned.
Overall, there were 13 instances of players getting three votes from the umpires but none from the coaches, and 21 occasions where players picked up a perfect 10 from the coaches but got no love from the umpires.

Either the coaches or the umpires have got it wrong.!!! As mentioned by posters above, the AFL have to fix this ludicrous situation somehow.

yeah, Josh was best on ground that game against Melbourne

To be fair, with the Melbourne game they clearly got him mixed up with his brother lol

Which I can only assume has happened last night

They had to have been getting Rowell and Anderson mixed up

It’s such an intense combination of jealousy and tall poppy syndrome.

So Cripps had the greatest season in AFL history last year and now Rowell had the second greatest season in AFL history. WOW. Nick is a bit stiff to lose 2 Brownlow Medals to the greatest 2 seasons in the history of the AFL.
Yeah, 9 votes in games where he accumulated a massive 20, 17 and 16 possessions are testament to how deserved he was. All while other players had absolute blinders missed out within the same game.

Pretty clear the AFL want Queensland to have as many wins as possible, to “grow the game”.

Rowell is a good player, awesome actually, but he went even the best play on his team, let alone the league.

Just woke up and saw the result, perfect example of why I don’t watch it any more

A shit show from start to end with zero credibility!

Any guy who continuously comes second or third ( when they should have won at least 2 by now ) is clearly the best in the game
Leigh Matthew’s, pendles an bont have never won one. Says plenty.

Swan and bucks missed out on multiple occasions.

Daicos should be a 2-3 time winner. Last 2 are an absolute rort.

It’s pretty interesting looking at the last 10 or so winners. Contested inside mids dominate, to a laughable extent. flipping Jack Viney poached 3 votes of NAS, who played the best game a Saint has played in 10+ years.

Umps clearly have some kind of bias to those who get first hands to the footy. By nature of the way they’re trying to officiate the game? Hard to comprehend the extent to which the polling is at odds with what happens on the field - see N. Anderson polling fewer votes than Jake Bowey at ~R.10.

The Brownlow voting is a mess, like everything else with the umpiring department. You would think after a another joke of a count tonight they will look at the voting process in the off-season and make some changes...
What about AA selection and the Captain appointment. Then there's the goal and Mark of the year. Remember when Daniher jumped over a Grass Beetle and won

The umpires definitely got Rowell & Noble mixed up in all 3 of those games. Reminds me of the JHF & Bergman mix up last year.

Especially when they can’t view stats and probably just remember a redhead at every stoppage and every kick out 😂

The AFL is an out of control machine. Just look at the Sports Betting adds$$$ ending with messages of beware. Then you have the rubbish last night where they glorified McGovern's son giving the bird, yet fine players for doing the same. It's a complete circus so lets hope the new boss can fix up some of these clown acts, starting with the umpiring and rules.
