The Brownlow is probably the 'purest' award for the simple fact that umpires vote on who they thought was the best, without the benefit of stats.
and probably more importantly, the groupthink influence of the media.

Probably less odds than his brother when he didn't even get an invite and finished 3rd.Just come to say thankyou to whoever did the freo count and had brayshaw taking it over serong
made me go down a rabbit hole of if serong gets fkd - how much could brayshaw overpoll - similar to the rowell> anderson shafting
ended up taking brayshaw for top 5 @140s+ and rowell winner overall amongst a few other things and come out just shy of 2.5k on brayshaw alone
Yes but we're not 6m away from them. Umpires are probably going to always think the players that do best around stoppage are the best players, because that's where the ball is won, which allows the more outside players to capitalise.Q1: 8 disposals 1 goal
Q2: 5 disposals 1 behind
Q3: 11 disposals 1 goal
Q4: 10 disposals 2 goals and 6 score involvements to carry his team to the biggest 3/4 time comeback in VFL/AFL history
There is no case for Viney getting the three, even without the benefit of stats in retrospect. I watched that game live, Viney was tackling everyone but it wasn't THAT impressive to the eye.

There’s always the idea thatthis.
I think it would be great to include them. Thing is, we'd get a lot of cooks in the kitchen then so consensus might be a bit hard.
Not to worry - perhaps they can all do their own votes and a formula can be applied to come up with a number of votes for say 3-5 players each game that get read out on the night.
I still like the Brownlow, but we need to have rucks, forwards, defenders still some sort of chance. And I'm getting tired of these HUGE totals.
Yeah I agree with your take as there are some things I've seen Libba, Cripps, Bont and Clayton Oliver do live at the ground that boggle the mindYes but we're not 6m away from them. Umpires are probably going to always think the players that do best around stoppage are the best players, because that's where the ball is won, which allows the more outside players to capitalise.
Not saying I agree with it but I imagine that's probably how it appears at ground level.
Umpires have always taken more notice of players who are under their noses. Hence why so many inside mids win it. This is nothing new I don't see what the fuss is about. With NWM, I remember the TV commentary saying it will be interesting who gets the 3 on Brownlow night.Regarding Wanganeen Milera, the umpires had Viney on top in each of the first 3 quarters.
Stkilds only played one good quarter.
What they didn't do is take into account Wanganeen's impact on the result.
Viney had 16 tackles and the record is 20 tackles, so umps obviously rate tackles.
If he never wins one, he'll be at best the 3rd best player to never win a Brownlow.Genuinely feel bad for Patrick Cripps and now Matt Rowell, you can see the embarrassment on their faces in receiving the Brownlow over the last 2 years knowing Nick "The Goat" Daicos was by far the most deserving.
Cripps and Rowell will probably be hiding those Brownlows in the bottom drawer.
Coaches don’t vote on the Brownlow. How does Rowell get 3s when neither of the coaches have him a vote??$$
yea cos all the brownlow winners are gna lose sleep over your respectWhen will you Aussies understand you guys have to worst award in world sport?
That last one... with an all time great performance by NWM, just exemplifys the award. A joke.
I don't respect any of the winners of this award, including all the ones at my club.
So he'd be better than the likes of Matthews, Ablett Snr, Dunstall, Carey? If he never wins one, he'll be at best the 3rd best player to never win a Brownlow.

What the **** has the Saints being shit for 3/4s got to do with NAS???
Congratulations to Rowell, deserving winner. Daicos had an Ok year but not a stand out. The number of votes to Rowell was surprising but it’s been the pattern for a number of years now. First they stopped giving votes to defenders, then rucks, then forwards and now most votes go to inside mids.
As for the coverage, it was definitely the worst. Sped read through the votes, way too many boring interviews. Hamish was woeful as host but who’s surprised? I was looking at the EPG for ‘Unfiltered’ this week and it states Hamish is the ‘best sports interviewer in Australia’. It stopped me in my tracks. According to who, Kerry stokes or is Rompingwins writing his own bios again?
Agreed but Viney had 16 tackles and Melbourne dominated for 3 quarters. What the **** has the Saints being shit for 3/4s got to do with NAS???
He was great every quarter and went superman in the last to win it.. Clear as day 3 vote game.
There's more than disposals and scores and that's you're problem right there. Viney had 16 tackles which also plays a big part. It's very reasonable to suggest Viney was the best player on the ground for majority of that game.Q1: 8 disposals 1 goal
Q2: 5 disposals 1 behind
Q3: 11 disposals 1 goal
Q4: 10 disposals 2 goals and 6 score involvements to carry his team to the biggest 3/4 time comeback in VFL/AFL history

He needs his namesake that's for sure.
Ash McGrath got 0 votes in the original.Nas 34 and 4 goals, wins the game singlehandedly in the new Miracle on Grass...
2 votes hahah
Little lippy nippy Nicky.Best and fairest.
Maybe they finally got sick of him screaming at them and trying to umpire the game himself?
Nepo baby.Hamish is insufferable. He's also bad at his job. He just says awkward stuff to the players that doesn't evoke responses
just about finished the home and away season as the number 1 clearance player in the competition and the number 1 tackler in the competition (might’ve been pipped by Atkins in final round).
