Nowhere has anybody said that paracetemol causes autism. Its simply an increased risk.
Like wearing seatbelts in a car. Not wearing a seatbelt may increase your risk of dying in a car accident. But you might also drive your whole life and never have an accident either.

Some of you are so blinded by hate, that all rational thought has left.

Edit: I just looked at a packet of Nurofen in our house. Guess what - it has a pregnancy warning. Not only if you are pregnant but also if you are trying to get pregnant.
There's no evidence of an increased risk.

Ibuprofen and Paracetamol are two different drugs.

I looked at a wine bottle, it says don't take that during pregnancy too. But it doesn't say it will increase the risk of autism.

It MAY increase the risk of autism. Not that it WILL increase the risk. There is a significant difference.
Some studies have shown there may be an increased risk. Other studies have shown there is no increased risk.

I'm more inclined to believe that an unborn autistic child may cause problems with pregnancy requiring the mother to take paracetemol. So paracetemol is a symptom, not a cause.
However the discussion is definitely worth having instead of being written off just because you don't like the President of the country.

Anyone else getting MAGA/Project 2025 "women in their place" vibes with all of this?

As in - suck it up, the baby is more important than your body, so deal with it. Don't take provenly safe painkillers cos my offspring.

It's not abortion level but it's on that continuum I recon. It's sinister stuff.

And to think we are just realising that current medical science has issues with taking women's pain seriously. This stuff comes along.

Or it could all be just a bunch of innocent brain worm ravings.

Get a grip.
Its nothing of the sort. Its a simple warning that is found on almost every packet of medication. And to be honest, if a pregnant woman is in constant pain that requires her to take pain relief, then she ought to be going to her doctor. Maybe this will be a prompter instead of self diagnosing/medicating.

"But last week showcased another, equally important side of Kennedy’s management: the way he is eliminating the people and dispensing with the procedures that allow agencies like the CDC to carry out their basic functions in a transparent, scientifically sound way."

Being an Essendon player may be linked to being drug cheats. There's no evidence of it now, but there has been in the past so it "May" be because of being an Essendon player, it could be something else. So maybe there should just be a warning on all Essendon draftees.

This discussion is definitely worth having.

You see how stupid that sounds now, don't you?

it sounds like rfk has spent some time at the dart board.

educating about the risks involved, including paracetamol, is always a good thing. this could include educating about autism incidence vs 'geriatric pregnancy'. i don't know how that aligns with the american administration's christo-fascist leanings, though. you'd think that mentioning the benefits of having children earlier would appeal on a religious level, but they may find the prospect of educating women at all unappealing.

anyway, isn't it gods will that the child be born autistic?

I genuinely don't think you've met a pregnant woman.

yes, because ibuprofen/ NSAIDs are associated with renal dysgenesis in foetuses.
which is a long way different from DUmp saying panadol associated with autism based on outdated evidence.
There is no increased risk of autism.

And repeat that shit again I will report you for spreading opinions that are not backed by evidence.

Green socks during pregnancy may increase the risk of autism. You understand how studies are completed?

and how many women in the USA can afford to see a doctor every time they have some pain?

Nobody said there is a definitive increased risk of autism.
Put your hate and bile to the side and read exactly what was said. And try and make an argument without threats and swearing.

There is nuance in medicine just as there is in real life. Its not black and white.

I'm sure you will report me because differing opinions or insights are not allowed.

The only thing stupid is that ridiculous analogy.

Anyway, I'll leave you guys to your hatred, threats and general intolerance. Enjoy.

So what is the "purpose" of this announcement?

It's not based on a new study. So it's not "news". What is the administration trying to achieve?

Yes MP, you are right, there are nuances in medical science and one of them is to analyse the data properly and carefully. Neither of which have been done in this case. There is no good evidence paracetamol is the cause of autism. Starting an investigation 6 months ago and rapidly finding paracetamol is the cause suggests this is political piece of theatre and not science. You are the one politicising it, not the naysayers, they are following the data. Trump corrupts everything he touches, here he is corrupting medical science.

It is based on a new study.
Now you can agree or disagree with it. Thats your right. But lets stop with the hysteria and the lies please.

However, the Trump administration is pointing to a growing body of research that suggests a connection between autism in children and the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy.

In particular, a Mount Sinai and Harvard University study published in August reviewed the existing literature and concluded that a large majority of studies on the topic found autism diagnosis was more likely for expectant mothers who took acetaminophen.

How do you know it hasn't been analysed?
Because you saw it on Reddit or X.

Again, I have no opinion one way or the other what is right and what is wrong. But people here are simply dismissing because they hate Trump that much that all logical reason has been thrown out the window.

I don;t really see the big deal in any case. If you disagree, then continue to take paracetemol whilst pregnant. Its not exactly the end of the world.
