At this stage how do people think we will end up delist/retire/trade out wise?

Whiltshire delist
Clohesy trade(really don't want to)
Guthrie retire
Duncan retire
Bews trade to the west (rumoured)

I think we will want to move on at least 2 more

Options are

Stevens
Ivisic
Pike

The rest i am thinking we keep unless they want out

If we get marshall (big IF) and worpel then i think it will be
Senior list
In
Marshall
Worpel
Mellor (match)
Mullin (rookie elevation)
Plus 1 ND pick (probably a late one)

Out
Duncan
Bews
Guthrie
Wiltshire
Stevens (trade/delist)

Clohesy will get traded from the rookie list to someone else's senior list.
Pike and ivisic could stay or go.
We could also move stanley to rookie list but unsure if we will.
I expect we will take minimal draft picks this year as we will be trading most of this years picks for marshall anyway and the ones we have are quite late.

Seriously?

It takes more than 6 players to make a forward line.

Miers has been playing more midfield this year, and may take another step in that direction next year (which makes sense given his one-wood is delivering the ball inside 50 moreso than kicking the goals himself).

Danger is still at his best in the midfield. At 36yo he's miss a few games next year and for the rest of the time he'll likely rotate between midfield and forward line.

And don't forget that next year we have 5 on the bench, meaning that at any point in time there is likely to be at least one forward with his arse attached to the pine.

Jezza roams up the field regularly. Neale subs in the ruck from time to time.

There is PLENTY of room.

And when we're talking about a forward the calibre of Curnow, well... he just gives oppo defences a completely new and scary (for them) set of problems to lose sleep over. And lose sleep they will.

Bottom line: if we can get him for a bargain salary (apparently he's willing to take a pay cut) and his body holds up, we'd be stupid to pass him up.

As many have pointed out before me, the only problem is our ability to do the deal, and I agree with most who say that we should NOT sell the farm for him. Holmes is just stupid talk, if that's Carlton's price then fine, see ya later.

But if we can get him for a reasonable price trade-wise - whatever that is - then we should be tripping over ourselves to sign on the dotted line.
Mannagh and Dempsey also spend time forward as does Blics and Martin how many forwards do we need ? 23?

We basically have about 10 rotating through it now

Yes he is only 28 but who does he replace in our forward line?

Miers Cameron Close
Danger Neale Stengle

With others waiting in the wings like OH to replace Danger
Cameron has at least 2 years left

I would much rather use the 3 first rounders+ or a best 22 player and a first that Carlton would ask for on an actual area of need.

Jezza could go full Richoman on the wing. Imagine Jezza on one wing and Dempsey on the other. We would never afford the trade price for Curnow so it is a moot point but we could make the playing side of it work.

Nah, they just prioritise Edwards. If he's fit and in the VFL, he plays "first ruck".

If Stanley is in the same team, he plays mostly up forward or down back while giving Edwards a chop out in the ruck for 5-10 minutes each quarter.

Easy.

Which is what happened this year with Pike

To start the VFL season it was Stanley & Pike sharing ruck duties and when Stanley was called up to the seniors, Pike took over as our #1 ruck

Then when Edwards came in it was back to a role share between Mitch & Joe, and then when Conway joined them in the VFL, it was Conway & Edwards sharing ruck duties with Pike spending more time up forward or even behind the ball

Then when Conway went down it was Edwards who took the mantle as our #1 option with Pike in support

If we're successful in bringing in Marshall following the re-signing of Stanley, then Pike probably becomes excess to needs, with Stanley as our back up be it in the VFL or seniors

Yeah look, any trade is possible if you're willing to lose enough.

I dunno about those knees though

Carlton are going to ask for sdk Holmes or O'Sullivan and we are going to say no. And that's realistically where it ends.

I also think that those players would also say no which is a key step.

The only other thing that could happen, and it's unlikely, but sdk could ask to go post with his brother and we could get something out of that

Over recent days there's been some frustrated murmurings on socials around Brisbane and their likely recruitments come October

But that's more from fans than anyone with media connections making noise - but I expect we'll start to hear some more frustrations over coming weeks as things fall into place

It will gain traction if they beat us ..then get two free agents ..and get a top10 kid in the draft as ana academy kid

Id rather te media be moaning about Geelong after we win another won..and then asking how the hell we could be linked to a surprise move for Butters ..

I tend to agree. Its highly unlikely we can find a way to get it done. Did he ever come out of contract while a fee agent?

Someone like Butters has smartly retained his sovereignty by only signing himself to the RFA mark. I suspect if he signed at Port it would only be with the understanding that he will still have the autonomy when he is a UFA to move.

He signed his extension in August 22, and was due to become a free agent in 2023

Curnow could be willing to play for us for a packet of chips and a coke it still isn't happening as Carlton will not accept what we would offer and we won't offer what they will accept and we simply don't need him.

In terms of importance our forward line is by far the least important area to improve.

1 Ruck (Marshall fixes this if we get him)
2 Midfield (No one available this year really unless we want to trade the world)
3 defence (No one available that we have been linked to)
4 forward line (i would rather try and get Cadman or another young Key forward from somewhere that would cost a lot less)

Now if Curnow was 26 or so sure we should 100% try but nope he is to old with a contract that hamstrings him.. He should have come to us a few years ago when he was a FA and we were into him.
Cadman re-signed with the Giants on a 4 year deal

Having a strong side comes with the down side that you lose players that you might want to keep. If we are in a window then there is probably a balance of how many we can have that will take time and can play now.

From the players side..if he is getting offers from another club , he may think there are more chances elsewhere especially if its multiple years contract If his current club rated him then they would offer a similar contract.

If Geelong do not see him a strong part of our best side in 26 then it would not surprise that we lose that player. So do we keep all of Knevitt , Clark , GS ..etc there will be some players that look for chances elsewhere just fact of limited list spots
Or he is no good and we are happy to let him go for a mid draft pick.

Yeah there’s way too much public noise about this

Interesting times
Wouldn't read too much into this bit in particular... They have an alcoholic drink beverage they own with the Daicos boys... And I'm pretty sure I also sure video with the Daicos boys with them pre count as well

You could play Miers on the wing or midfield to open a spot in the forward line for Curnow. Alternatively, you could play Curnow off the bench to substitute with Neale and Jezza during the match.

Neale, Danger, Curnow
Close, Cameron, Mannagh
Miers, Worpel, Dempsey.
Holmes, Stewart, Zuthrie
J. Henry, SDK, O'Sullivan
Marshall, Smith, Atkins

I/C: Stengle, Stanley, Martin, Bowes, Humphries
I sorry but I dislike everything on how you wrote this team down, are you south Australian and do you use the word versing? 😂
