Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

People who keep banging on about getting replacement star with the exits, I'm not sure I see the need if we're suring up enough positions in terms of fundamental play, plus there's potentially Shiel via DFA.

With the permutations I've mentioned previously, would people be happy with this sort of line-up?

FB: Khamis Dean Carroll
HB: Cowan Weitering Saad
C: Walsh Cerra Chesser
HF: Dattoli Kemp Shiel
FF: Hayward McKay Williams

R: O'Keeffe Cripps Hewett

INT: Haynes, O.Hollands, Robey, Smith
SUB: Moir

The rest:

FB: O'Farrell (inj) Duffy Newman
HB: Wilson Le.Young Charleson
C: Cottrell Lord L.Camporeale
HF: Fogarty Marsh/Reeves Motlop
FF: Evans Reidy Durdin

R: Pittonet B.Camporeale Ison

INT: Monahan, Gresham, Lo.Young, Binns?
SUB: White/Clark?

EDIT: Didn't realise Treloar got a 1 year deal...

Howard, Jack, Wilkie, Tauru? I reckon they're fine there. Someone who displaces Stocker makes more sense if they go a defensive pick, but they need forward and midfield reinforcements more.
Treloar is re-signed.

Maybe a package deal with Chocco!

In all seriousness, personally not a fan of Shiel. Makes our midfielders look like elite kicks.
Play him off half-forward mostly, increase midfield and forward pressure through other positions and his kicking will clean up fine. He's always trying with his disposal, especially in Essendon's setup.

We'll have the cap space and he'll be relatively cheap, big upgrade on what we're getting out of Motlop and Fogarty. 1+1 or 2 year deal.

Linton St Bank/Superannuation Retirement Fund at it again :tearsofjoy:

Their war chest must’ve been huge.

NWM - $2m
TDK - $1.8m
JSOS - $800-$900k
Flanders - $900k
Aleer - ?
Ryan - ?

King, Wilkie, Steele, Marshall & Sinclair, must be on peanuts

It's a balance, isn't it? I think this is our best opportunity to cash in on Charlie.

I think doing the trade next year would mean less of a return (see Petracca).

However, I also don't want us to panic sell (which we don't seem to be doing) and get unders for him.

Also don't want to be held to ransom by D'orazio. Rather get nothing than let him have a win.
If im the club i would be telling D'orazio a list of players we want in return for curnow. Make it happen or he's staying at carlton

If you want to hurt that D'Orazio scumbag and fix the player 'kulcha' - you actually refuse any deal and make curnow play VFL - for starters.

QED.

So let me get this straight.
We hold him to his contract and continue to pay him, use up a list spot, and not benefit the AFL side in any way? So we’ve get a disgruntled player hanging around the club, not playing, getting paid more than most of the team, and this will fix the culture?
Where do I sign?

Aleer = 750k it's been reported.

TDK = 1.65M (Bassett said 1.8M wasn't accurate)

JSOS = 850k
I asked my St Kilda supporting uncle what he thought of the massive salaries that his club would be paying out. His response... Lindsay would be looking after them.

Curnow is on the backend of his front-loaded contract. He's not getting paid more than the majority of the players.

So what you’re saying, on one hand this is our best opportunity to cash in on Charlie.

On the other hand you don’t want to panic sell and get unders.

And on the other hand you don’t want to get shafted by D’orazio.

What are you k-man, an octopus… :D

Not really _ I was responding to the poster I quoted and bolded the bit I responded to.

Personally speaking I am more than familiar with 'dealing' with prima donna extremely talented employees and would never find myself in the situation that Carlton put itself into allowing a bunch of nuffy self proclaimed star players to dictate terms to the Club and pick and choose when they wish to play if they wish to play whilst being paid massive overs for what they have delivered - all whilst whispering to nuffies about how bad every coach that the CLub has ever bought in to coach them is...not ONE of the players that have left will EVER achieve 1/10th of what the current coach has achieved or known 1/10th of what he already knows and has forgotten about what it takes to be a good footballer or a winning team - NOT ONE of them.

Instead of being captive to a self selected bunch of talented but ultimately individualistic driven non team players - the CLub is best rid of the lot of them - and build a team culture.

Apparently this was the aim of the leadership group - which apparently took 'unders' to stay together and achieve something...well unders turned out to be overs but not enough for the like of curnow now...

Carlton #1 issue is to take control of the playing groups entitled expectations. It isnt Carlton's job to strengthen opposition teams for peanut returns, it isnt Carltons job to reward bastardry and bad actor behaviour, it isnt Carlton's job to cop ridicule and accept whatever some other mob wishes to pass on - it is Carltons job to put Carlton first and if that means making curnow stick to his contract and not even play a game for the next 4 years- - SO BE IT.

but hey that is just me - I understand some people enjoy bending over and eating scraps.

But they should pay back over the average paid annual wage should they initiate a trade/want away.

Hence the back-ended contracts are harder to get off the books (or part paid by the original club if traded). E.g. Oliver gets paid $1.4M from now on, so he either takes a clip personally, trading club takes the full contract wage or MFC part pays to make whole the amount owed.

Players that are front-loaded can renegotiate at their new club so have double-dipped if they rip & run mid-contract.
Why on earth should they pay it back 😂 The club is manipulating the contract to try and benefit themself in the future. The club has said we'll pay you more early to free up salary cap in the future. Do you think Charlie went to the club and asked to be paid more early? If the club puts faith in the wrong person, that's on the club.

I was talking about the doggies. I don't think the Saints have any reason except SOS being petty to bid on Dean.

I get the feeling that while we won't be taking peanut returns, we will be taking something that most on here will be disappointed with...

For me, trading Curnow now is the smart move... but it won't be for the established player people want. Dreaming if they think we'll get Gulden or Butters out of this... absolutely dreaming :D

But, the Swans 2025 1st + 2026 1st + Hayward is not that bad. I get you said earlier that we have to do better than "not bad" and that people are worried the Swans will be top 4 with Curnow, but I see them finishing between 7th - 12th. So a pick #7 - #12 next year is more than handy for Cody. 2025 1st combined with TDK pick to push above a Dean bid would be a great result as well. Hayward a decent pickup. If we can get Florent (maybe send them back a F3) as well then we've done pretty well. He's a decent player, just fallen out of favour with their new coach... it happens.

We will get more out of that long term, then we will keeping Charlie... because keeping blokes like that around will only ensure that the attitude will fester among the playing group. Let's be real, they're not going to play him in the VFL as punishment... will not happen I can guarantee that! :D

Getting rid of him will send a stronger message anyway...

I think the last 2 go hand in hand... or should I say tentacle in tentacle?
