2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

seeing neale and others waltz out of the middle on the back of darcy fort dominance and stanley subbed was a thing of beauty in the 2nd half

im happy to see the roma 60-70% forward thing play out,but very happy now that the cats should be coming even harder,no bailey sniff style ripoff dealing with the saints, pony up & those 4 small forwards mannagh stengle close and miers were eaten alive today

on another note respect to c.scott/geelong and freo, for the other 11 clubs(outside of the nepo babies),enjoy cheering on the lions every year for a while, while you call the saints a bunch of whingers

I think those at the afl are too ****ing dumb to realise they are ****ing the game.
Imagine Brisbane, Gold Coast, GWS and Sydney dominating for the next decade.

With Richmond, Essendon, Carlton and West Coast near the bottom. Possibly Collingwood sliding as well.

Success fatigue will become chronic very quickly.

When the crowds start evaporating and the TV ratings are falling the AFL may just realise they have a problem.

Geelong were mauled in the ruck today and were thrashed in stoppage clearances.

The ruck is a chronic problem for them. They desperately need a quality ruck. Today it was exposed on the biggest stage of all.

They may make a late play for Draper, but if not their options are limited.

Marshall is Geelong’s only other hope. And their need just increased.

Draft picks don’t cut the mustard. Saints want to get better, quicker.

Blue chip for blue chip. Player for player. Pony up.

If not, I’m happy to keep Marshall. A part of me is excited to see how a Marshall-TDK combo plays out.

Smith got found out, Holmes atrocious by foot, Dangers old age caught up to him. Watching Lions though was something to behold, they are scary good and will only get better with academy/free agency acquisitions.

The best part about today was watching Geelong get absolutely monstered with Blic and Rhys in the ruck. I'm not convinced that Big O and Fort are even close to a reasonable ruck combination, but Geelong got pantsed in that area and it was just so satisfying.

Roma is definitely a priority for them, zero questions asked about that, but as has been pointed out already - his price just went up! Pony up Catters or Ro can play out his contract.

Lions in the end were much cleaner with their ball use, Geelong just could not find time and space once thst was closed down a lot of their GOFs looked less than that when their stars could not win the contest.
Marshall will add a bit more than Stanley but his disposal is not going to add much to Geelongs clearance game
But he is best fit for them and they need to get a sugar hit from finishing second and see Marshall as the difference maker which IMHO think he is not.
We need blokes with polished and speed and if trading Marshall who has neither but a big heart and a great bloke then he should be traded for Cats FRDP any more than that is a bonus.

We need 2 Ashcroft pick ups to be contending, pity we never got that hit but just when the Lions needed it.Imagine losing a Daniher for nothing and being replaced by an Ashcrift and a Fletcher for SFA.

Go Saints we seem to go well in years ending in 6.

Brisbane Dynasty has started
In reality this should've been their 3rd on the trot as the Filth game could've gone either way.

The Ashcroft brothers are the best brothers in the league already and they are just babies in footy terms.

They've nailed their build, but hats off to them. Went out and got Dunkley when they were getting Will. Grabbed Morris early when they had Levi handed to them.

Watching from afar, but they've done incredibly well (with a lot of luck) since that player exodus where they looked all but dead.

I think we just saw the end of Geelong. It has been a long time coming.

I wouldnt write them off they have an inate ability to attract players...

They made a mistake picking Stanley as Blicavs had been dominating the weeks before. The also made a huge blew trying to keep Cameron on after he broke his arm, he had done nothing before that they should have subbed him immediately. Scott had a really bad day in the box and had no answers when Brisbane's mids got on top.

Apart from Dempsey their small and key forwards were terrible.

A ruckman in the Marshall mode is not going to move the needle for them, they need bigger and more dynamic mids.

The problem is that the AFL can't afford for the northern clubs - especially Sydney and Brisbane - to be shit since the fans will disappear as soon as they miss the finals. They'll keep pumping enough quality picks and players into them to keep them competitive because constant growth is more important to them than the health of the game in its heartland.

Well I look at facts and just don't shitcan players that did things that none of us here could ever do.
He played 170 AFL games, wasn't developed and was disappointing, but to call him a busting plain ignorance.
As for Stocker, Lyon keeps selecting him and he just got a new contract, you know better than Lyon as well?
No-one else to replace slow ol Stocker yet
Hope Voss does or maybe even 18 y.o Fincher would be better.

Geelongs entire game is built on rebound/transition between the arcs.

Marshall helps as he gets the ball forward. The cats equalise the next contest. Or they lose it but dirty ball goes back and they intercept and go.

Neither occurred today

There was also a bit of 2009 2010 Saints about Geelong too. Elite system but soft bottom 6 against a stack of elite talent and depth right through the squad.

Brissie won't have Neale, Cameron and Zorko much longer. Take three guns out of any side and they start to thin out. Starcevich and Bailey might get picked off as FAs too.
