I agree Curnow is not our main need but how many high level players get connected to us? We may disagree on curnow’s impact…I’m open to the possibility that he would be a dud and not worth it (he was horrible last year), but he might also be a massive upgrade over what we have. It’s a risk for sure, but I’m struggling to see how else we meaningfully improve this team. They’re isn’t an A-grade midfield bull or KPD walking through the door.
I think we roughly agree. Happy to get Curnow as his best is excellent. Just not for the price Carlton and their media cheer squad are suggesting.

What makes Brisbane so relentless is that they're stacked full of mids and they find a way to fit them all between the arcs. The end result is an array of primed players who are inherently built to be the best players on a footy field. It's just the way it is, anyone growing up playing footy who have the best mix of athletic prowess, strength and skill end up becoming mids.

The moral of the story is you can never have enough mids. Have to stack your team full of as many as you can and you literally cannot go wrong.

Minus Heeney we need to find a way to bring more strong mids in to turn everyone else into part timers who have no choice but to go to a wing, or half forward or forward pocket. They also tend to be the best small forward when they're in there.

Bris: Neale, Dunkley, Ashcroft1, Ashcroft 2, mcgluggage, Bailey, Rayner, ah chee, Reville, Berry

Us: Heeney, Warner, Rowbottom, Gulden, Mills, Papley, jmac

We're under gunned. And it's not a matter of getting rid of any of them, we need to add a couple more top tiers into that list. All of a sudden Gulden can do a Bailey in the forward line, warner can push to a wing and be a link up/overlap option, jmac can work on running a muck like mcgluggage, Heeney can rest forward without worrying about our midfield for the moment etc etc. all of a sudden you have more marking options down the line, and dangerous part time small forwards which makes recruiting for those positions less important. Mids then backs should be our priority.

But that’s because we are throwing all of our money and picks at tall forwards like it’s 2000.

Jai Newcombe would massively improve us. Finding players in depth is what we need. Instead we’ve decided hers this very good forward who will cost the earth - so because she’s available let’s pay it.

The blues have their issues around delivery to forwards so yes he could do better than what we have. But I swear when we lose it’s not because our forwards aren’t competitive - it’s because thi midfield is terrible.

If Newcombe wanted to come here that would be terrific.

He just extended his contract in July, why would he break just a couple of months later?

Jai Newcome would improve us but there is no way known that he is leaving the Hawks.

Durham, Wardlaw would be two I would love to get.. Mckenzie too.
Juh ,petracca , jai serong , rosas.
Curnow's cost is the problem..

Very few players the last decade have wanted to come here tho its something you have to weigh up also.

We dont get to the GF in 2014/2016 without Franklin
I dunno, we lost some good players to squeeze in Franklin and we often looked better when we were unpredictable without him. Hawks lost a GF with him and then won a bunch without him.

I’m open to the Curnow trade but less for the big forward kicking goals and more for having someone who can supported contested marking as we move up the field. If we become Curnow centric like we used to be Buddy centric, it would be a bad outcome.

For all of those noticing the Jai Newcombe reference - I was merely trying to make the point that players like that would be massively better for our team. As would a Josh Kennedy. These players would instantly 8mprove our greatest weakness which isn’t in my opinion the tall forwards although clearly based on the mccartin move this year it seems to have been coxs view hence the pall mall pursuit of curnow

I used to think it was Longmire greatest flaw not being able to integrate Franklin properly into the side.

Does that mean as Curnow is several levels above Amartey we will look even better?
Yeah, it would be pretty great to have Amartey and Curnow at their best. That’d stretch the opposition defence down the lines and enable more run through the corridor.

I think the big questions are what happens to our depth if we get Curnow and which version of Curnow would we get.

Tho Curnow/Amartey and Logan could get crowded as they would be unfamiliar with leading patterns.

As long as they all dont fly for the same ball lol
