The real modern day greats like Voss, Ackermanis, Dusty Martin stand up when the game is there to be won.
Dangerfield vanishes too often to be a GOAT.

As the captain of the side he should have been the one to drag them over the line.
Hodgey too, went okay in September!

This thread aged well after one week.

When he has a best on ground performance against the WCE/North Melbourne next year it'll be back on the agenda. But the true believers know that he is nowhere near GOAT status. Just a good ordinary player.

2020 GF
12 disposals
1 goal
3 tackles
1 mark

2022 GF
27 disposals
4 tackles
3 marks
6 goal assists

2025 GF
10 disposals
2 tackles
2 marks

this isnt basketball. goal assists is a BS stat. basically every person in the chain is part of the "goal assist"

unless its some freaky Greg Williams handball that slices through 10 people and hits you on the chest; goal assist isnt a thing in AFL.

Like most of the season, players and teams played their 'grand final' against Hawthorn.

Age catches us all. There simply cannot be any other explanation for how a bloke can do what he did last week and then follow it up with THAT performance today when there is more to play for.

I'd be absolutely ropeable if I was a Geelong fan.

Well why is it that Geelong supporters rate Goal Assists so highly?

Just asking.

Plenty of greats stood up in finals consistently. Ablett Sr, Carey, Bartlett, Matthews, Hird and the list goes on and on.

Just from that list, Carey wasn't that great in GF's, Hird in 2001 had a shocker ( granted was injured) and Ablett sn, apart from 89 performed pretty poorly (kicked 4 goals between 92,94,95). Plenty of greats have had a bad days.

Hird was a Normie in 2000. played a sublime game in the most dominant side that's ever played 12 months of football. and he played a great game in the '93 GF kicking a goal in the 3rd when Essendon needed to make a statement to Carlton's challenge. put the game out of reach, killed Carltons momentum.
in retrospect he shouldnt have played in 2001; but its a Lachie Neale situation where you roll the dice. you want your best player out there. sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

Dangerfield is of course a fantastic player. but to me he's that one tier down from the absolute greats.
