Nicks won’t do that, he’s not prepared to get sacked and the club doesn’t want to potentially go backwards
Too late for that, we went from top to mid table plodders in 2 weeks

It’s time to put the gun kids in the midfield full time, and retire Tex and Laird. Our youth should be getting every opportunity and persevered with even if we go backwards a bit. Then we build on those who make the grade.

If Nicks can’t do that then he has to go

Instead numbnuts puts Murphy in the midfield in the SANFL. Genius stuff.
And Jay Boyle who isn't even on the list.

Stupidity of the highest order.

I absolutely agree- my point is that Crows fans often go "Oh yeah but Rankine and Rachele" when we're talking about our top line players. Yes they are, but they aren't blue chip mids and never will be.

We need to address the midfield properly (we needed to years ago) or we'll have another group of talent pissed away.
We're pretty good at pissing talent away.....and not developing them either.

I mean, this is literally the most obvious approach it should barely even need to be raised, it should just happen

Yep and it’s why after watching today I wouldn’t go after Petracca if it’s costing us 2 firsts. We aren’t beating Lions in finals and it would be a waste of 2 picks given his age.

Our midfield is 3-4 years behind them.
Just on this - I still would, given this year's pick will probably be around 20 (and is a weak draft, so would probably get the quality of a usual pick 25-30). Also Petracca should make us generally better next year (good enough to win at all is another question), so hopefully that '26 first wouldn't be a high pick either

And like both of us have said, it's not like the mids we'd pick with those selections would become stars, anyway

Realistically we're way behind Brisbane, but we can't just immediately wave the white flag as soon as we get back to finals

Ah Chee is not a free agent (mentioned earlier) - would need a trade. Would be a good get. Value is a bit difficult to gauge.

I still doubt Petracca will come but if he will, and we are taking all the financial contract, no more than Pick 14 + Berry for mine.

Would be fully focussed on Zac Bailey personally. But if Petracca came, then throw massive $ at Bailey and hope to hell 2026 First and 2027 First can get it done for Zac Bailey. I doubt they will release him though... despite being a pre-agent.

Other thoughts:

Thoughts on Trading ROB for Rowan Marshall? We would have to throw something else in. But could this work for St kilda? It sounds stupid but would they go for Marshall for ROB + Butts (Butts to replace Wilkie)?. if we lost Butts I would like to sign delisted FA Jacob Blight for more KPD cover. Seen him live couple of times this year and have no idea why richmond delisted him. I dont want to lose Butts but we need a different look in ruck and they need Butts if they lose Wilkie and Caminiti. I really dont think it matters that ROB just signed a new contract.

George Stevens is a no for me. too slow.

If we can't get Petracca hit up McCreery I guess as has been suggested. Doesn't fit our clean cut MO but is fast and tough. Pick 14 might get it done?

1) we won't be taking all the financial contract for Trac, particularly as it doesn't sound like Melbourne's in any particular financial trouble
2) If we offered ROB for Marshall (even throwing in Butts), SOS might storm off St Kilda Pier instead of just out of the negotiating room
3) 14 for McCreery is a HUGE overpay for a guy who's barely hit 20 touches a game, if ever

Yup, today was a sobering reminder how far away we are from Brisbane. Trac is a bad idea because we are still a few years away from having the talent of a flag side. There are more holes in our current 22 than we prob realise.
Problem is Dawson will be out of his A-grade years by that point, and a lot of our current role players will likely be well past it

20 this year and 15 next year probably doesn't help us win a flag more than anyone currently under 21yo on our list

Use those firsts on trades that are going to be around in 3 years when we will be a chance

Doesn't sound like there's too many other options that will be available this year, so we'd just end up using that 20-ish pick on an 18yo again

Next year someone might become available (where we can use the 26 and 27 firsts), but someone might not, as well. Realistically, how often have star mids wanted to come to SA?

1) not correct from word over here. they want the money off the books and thats more to do with the deal than the draft capital. it might just be pick 14.
2) well come up with something we need a different look in ruck
3 youre right

exactly we need to go now... no more taking these picks to the draft and theyre gonna be average picks anyway lets face it.

Ah Chee's value is a hard one. I think it will end up being a future second.

There is a reason why every club isn't chasing Petracca like they are / will Bailey.

Surely anyone watching today realises Petracca or Oliver are not what we need. Oliver probably doesn't even make the Lions 22..He is to slow with and without the ball and has ordinary disposal.

Collingwood and Hawthorn would chase Trac if they could, tbf

Agree we need a different look in ruck, it’s just very hard to see where it comes from (other than McAndrew, I guess)

I wish that question would get asked at a coaches press conference. Why do you prioritise top up players in the midfield over AFL listed players.

i doubt it will. National media, Tom Morris and Xavier McGuire just would not care. The SA media in Tom Rehn and that guy on mix 102.3 and the channel 7 (I don’t care to remember their name) wouldn’t ask as the SANFL are beneath them and the SANFL media don’t care to cover the Crows SANFL side.

Fathers need to have sons who are gun footballers. 😂
McLeod Edwards Jarman. None of their sons have been great footballers yet Marcus Ashcroft has two sons who turn out to be guns. Arghhh
Maybe we should limp jones to 2 more games, for the future and all.

Its why we need to be super aggressive targeting players that will make our midfield markedly better. Surely we could tempt one of the plethora of top end young mids out of Gold Coast..Lombard would be very good. Bailey from Brisbane if there is any chance you throw a huge offer to. Its our achilles heel as our defensive set up is top drawer and we have the forwards. Lets not die wondering while Dawson is still in his prime
I love the idea you put forward but to do this properly...and quickly will involve trading players out.
The bigger the fish we trade out, the bigger the fish we might catch. For example... Jake Soligo for a player like Zac Bailey. (Hypothetical) Or, Josh Rachelle for Harry Sheezel.

I'm not sure how I feel about these sorts of trade just yet, especially with still under developed talent aplenty to spread their wings as footballers.

Totally agree with this. My fear is that we're going too early on the big fish. Of course, if we can get them for a bargain I'm all for it.
