2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Don't know if anyone mentioned this, but Channel 7 news showed Hill, Nas and TDK at The Espy last night seeing Snoop Dogg. Someone might be able to confirm, but looked like Marshall was there too.

TDK already bonding with the fellas. You love to see it.

Didn’t look like they were together.

Strong body's and strong mind. We beat Geelong and Freo but that's powder puff home and away. Our lure is Brisbane. Sure whinge about talent (which I do) but amongst some great skill, what I witnessed today was mind and body.

I think we have the raw talent but do we have the herbs and spices to create that wrecking ball in the 2nd half where there is no team in the league that won't melt similar to Collingwood and Geelong over the past 2 weeks?

Can we build that? I think we have the ingredients. I want the cobbler to now cobble. Finals series of 2027 I want us to be deep and build that premiership team resilience that all the great teams build.

JSOS, Howard, Aleer, Tauru, Wilkie, Barrat, De Koning, Caminiti... I just hope we can talk Cordy out of 'retirement' as tall defender depth will obviously be super thin next year 🤪

That sounds like a Ross Lyon wet dream.

Tauru and Caminiti could go forward.

If we somehow landed SDK I'd be pretty happy. Can't see it happening though.

Caminiti has had a decent first season in the position and is 197. Would rather persist with him than overpay for De Koning
He did but he’ll end up as a forward. I think that’s why we’ve recruited so many defenders so we can keep him forward.

Skills is still the most important thing in our game. Particularly through the midfield. The way the lions mids can kick the footy and fire off quick handballs in congestion is brilliant.

Geelong on the other hand, were hopelessly exposed on this today. The midfield: Holmes, Smith, Danger, O’Connor, Mullin all shocking kicks. Atkins not much better.

You can run and get the footy but if you can’t use it properly then the best teams will expose you going the other way.

We are building, but we still have a long way to go. But as much as we love drafting runners, we need to make sure they can kick too.

Finals and particularly grand finals are a midfielders and HF’s game, if we get the right players there we’ll be able to pile on goals like Brisbane did today. The core of that team has played together for years and years as well, it’s very battle hardened team who had a lot of lows before the father sons got them over the edge.

They’re finishing top 4, getting top 5 picks every year and now they’re getting free agents on top. History says they’ve probably only got one more grand final in them next year but I just can’t see them slowing down any time soon. Harris Andrews is only 28 as well, he’s probably the only irreplaceable.

Zorko, Neale and Cameron carry a lot of kids behind them. It’s a lot easier running behind older players.

Other games are messy contested scraps though. You almost need to have multiple strings to your bow. Skills never get better under extreme pressure though.

Poster from the Geelong board. Close to a 2:1 likes to post ratio.

“Marshall and a 1st round will be traded for Sam Dekoning. We are going to bundle picks together and make a play for a star”

He’s absolutely shit since injury. We’d be insane unless we are trading Wilkie out. Marshall and Wilkie for a spud would undo all of our good work.

I've been following this person's posts for a few weeks, seems to have a Saints contact with their posts from the St Kilda pov

100% you do

But if you have a whole area with poor skills like Geelong’s midfield, it will eventually get exposed.

The good thing is that we do have a good amount of skilful players that is only improving. NWM, Sincs, Macrae, JSOS, Wilkie for the mids and back half.

It’s the forward half skill wise I think we need to improve, Liam Ryan will help with that. Then continue to build the midfield to bat deeper.

My wife spoke to TDK at a corporate lunch at the game today… he said he was at the Snoop show with Nas last night.

Also said he was absolutely pumped to be coming to St Kilda.

Need to keep Marshall no matter what.

Was surprised to see Max King at a Bayside gym this morning. Must be in the mandatory 8 weeks away from the club period.

Was even more surprised by his approach to the gym. Didn't seem to have a şet program, was walking around looking lost.

Strength standards were nothing short of diabolical. Has the strength of a 16 year old who has been lifting for 6 months max.

I know it is not a strong point but I was honestly shocked how weak he is. Skin and bones.

Furthermore, why is he training at a crap commercial gym that has a truckload of boomers clogging up the machines?

Could easily be at The Foundry which is built for athletes and has far less people.

Super unprofessional by the club IMO. I remain convinced the club is not taking strength and conditioning seriously whatsover.

If what I just witnessed is how blokes train away from the club, absolutely nothing will be achieved the next 8 weeks.

Start with going to a proper gym ffs. Absolute rookie stuff.
You sure it was Max King and not Norman Gunston?

We’ll see what impact it has moving forward.

Let see what the next media rights round looks like. I’m betting the afl is a falling star, pride comes before a fall.

No chance.

If anything it'll go way, way up.

Live sport is the absolute premium for TV and streaming services.

A TV series can be binged in a week. Or watched sporadically. Or skipped entirely. Or downloaded.

Live sports/events are at a premium because they HAVE to be watched in the moment. Very few people are going to sign up to Kayo to watch a replay of a game.

You wanna take part in the discussion? Be part of the social scene? You need to sign up and watch it.

It's also why people behind the scenes are pushing for a twilight/night start time.

Joe Average is less likely to invite a big group of people around for a later start, meaning more people stay home to watch it on their own TV.

Means more subscribers to streaming services.

More devices tuning in means providers can charge more for advertising.

Smaller groups also means less distractions so people spend more time paying attention to the advertising as well.

Im certain that a twilight start will be locked in as part of the next deal, even if it's as a 'trial' for 2-3 years.

After shoulder-gate, the club wouldnt have Max doing anything significant pre-christmas anyway.

He'll be doing intense running like everyone else but be on his own seperate program given his history.
Given his luck, he'll probably ask someone to throw him a drink bottle and dislocate his shoulder trying to catch it

Geelong subbed out their old ruckman who was first game back from injury and had zero impact which was why he was...subbed out.

They have enquiried about out RoMa who's much younger and under contract. The answer should start and end with "No" and just in case you were wondering... "No".

Who would seriously want? An earlier draft pick? In a weak draft? For me it is. Thanks but we'll see where we are at in July 2026. Why would we want to help them next year after what we saw today?

If what you say is true, it is good news for the Saints as SC increases are tied to broadcast rights and we don't build in SC increases into contracts so any increases will be excess to any contract currently operating.
