Its nice and different to every other sport, but it makes a mockery of the draft, which is the equalisation measure afl has. Brisbane has also been extremely fortunate that they got multiple gun f/s when they were already a finals team. Everything has lined up for them at the right time

Waterman your last All Australian eligible for it, Viney Melbourne. Sometimes you get lucky then other times you don't it is not the cornerstone of success. Josh Kennedy was f/s at Hawthorn they didn't even want him, he won a premiership somewhere else. Mitch Morton Eagles didn't want him he went and won a premiership somewhere else. Tom Mitchell left Sydney went and won one somewhere else. All traded within years that their original clubs won premierships. Joe Daniher moved clubs won a premiership. It doesn't always work out and clubs have got these stars at the peak of their clubs powers.

My completely biased opinion is the 2025 flag is one of the greatest of all time.

I don't remember the underdog not just win but thrash them by that much. 2008 Hawks were a bit longer odds, but not by much, but it's a bit like if they'd won by 50-60. The final margin flattered the Cats. Lions left many out on the table, Bailey especially, and the Cats got 3 junk time goals at the end. Final margin could well have been 70+.

Funnily enough, it feels like every time the premier adds new 'stars', and everyone assumes further dominance, it doesn't work out that way.

Thinking of Cloke going to the Bulldogs.
Didn't Geelong add Bowes and Bruhn plus pick 8 then miss finals after 2022?
Sydney added Franklin after 2013, but Tippett after the 2012 flag and could never get it done again.

Time will tell how impactful these Briabane recruits are.
