Is this one of the greatest grand final performances of the AFL era? Can Brisbane be stopped in 2026?

The one thing that may prevent Brisbane from becoming an all time team, if they aren't already, is the lack of a big, reliable marking and set shot goal kicking key forward.

But that is quibbling, Lions could easily win 3 in a row even with patchy accuracy and the mosquito fleet + young key target.
Maybe. But they do have two green talls, who look alright, who may only reach footy peak in the next few years.

It was an absolutely fantastic performance and there's no doubt in my mind they can still improve even more than what they are - but Gold Coast, Fremantle and Hawthorn have a lot of improvement in them as well. Giants and Bulldogs I expect to be around the mark again and there's tons of upside to St Kilda, Sydney and Adelaide. Let's wait and see how the Trade/Free Agency period goes and of course for the fixture which will give us a better idea instead of folding into a panic.
Yeah theres always overeactions post GF, going both ways positive and negative. Truth will be somewhere less extreme.

Was pretty confident Lions were going to win. Their second half against Collingwood was really good and I thought I'd they produced the same against Gelong, they'd win.

Didn't think it was going to blow out as much as it did in the 4th, though. But heads tend to drop when you realise the game is getting away from you

Funnily enough, it feels like every time the premier adds new 'stars', and everyone assumes further dominance, it doesn't work out that way.

Thinking of Cloke going to the Bulldogs.
Didn't Geelong add Bowes and Bruhn plus pick 8 then miss finals after 2022?
Sydney added Franklin after 2013, but Tippett after the 2012 flag and could never get it done again.

Time will tell how impactful these Briabane recruits are.

Did you not notice just how young that Lions side actually is?

By the end of this draft period they have stacked their midfield with three top 5 pick mids and set them up for the next 10 years whilst playing in the last three grand finals.

And next year will take Hodge from under the Hawks noses as an academy kid.

I'll ask again. What other club could dream to match that?

Covid killed Vic football, it broke their development continuity and theres very little coming through.
Interstate clubs who have/will recruit closer to home will dominate the AFL landscape for the next decade.

You do realise that both Ashcroft brothers played Junior football in Victoria

The 2025 Brisbane Premiership side is older than the 2018 West Coast Premier side.

Is it mean to hope Brissie creates the dynasty of all dynasties just to f### the Hawks and Freo…….. followed by Eddie and the Vics in general?
Love it. If you think the Eagles are going to be shit for the next five years, then all you can do is hope your enemies suffer at the hands of the mighty Lion King.

The Ashcroft brothers being gifted to what was already a top 4 team is final proof the AFL is completely cooked.
How long have f/s rules been in place?

Moore, Daicos x 2.
Hawkins, Ablett
Viney
Darcy, Libba

Yes Brisbane got lucky but it's not an "AFL gift".

Yeah and because of that I hear the Vic’s want to poach them for state of origin.

Get absolutely ****ed.

If you want to make state of origin interesting, those Ashcroft brothers play for QLD where they were born.

Play where you were born, ACT can defer to NSW and NT to QLD.

But that’s another subject.

Ok.

I'm not sure how that relates to my response after someone claimed the Victorian Coates League is no longer developing Junior talent.

But please--- go off!

You just make the rules a little more flexible.
Play for the state you first played juniors
OR
The state you were born in
OR
A father/son like rule where if yourDad played for a state, then the Son is eligible to play for that state. Sam Darcy plays for SA under this criteria.
OR
You are eligible to play for the state your club is based in (like Jason Dunstall playing for Victoria).

Lions are a lock for a three peat.

That side is getting stronger and no other side can match that.

Oscar Allen quality full forward for free.
Draper quality ruck for free.
Annables priority access at a discount for the best pure mid in the draft, could have played yesterday he is that good. Another top 3 pick midfielder.

Plus poaching Ridley from Essendon, quality CHB.

Rich getting richer.

What other club can dream to load up like that this trade and draft period?
Geelong getting Curnow, Worpel and Rowan Marshall?

Thanks for creating a thread with a title that genuinely celebrates this great team and its players. Not one with an agenda. Noice.

Its a great team no doubt.

Built with advantages only a select few other clubs are allowed.

Just like the side that won three flags with a COLA allowance opposition sides didnt have.

Those are the facts and the truth of the matter.

Enjoy the win. Another flag with plenty of ******* next to it.

Haha the salt is fantastic. How is the Tim Kelly trade that set your club back a few years back? Instead of blaming your clubs poor list management , easier to cry wolf I suppose.

I bet you were ecstatic when you picked up Yeo for a packet of chips and kicking us when we were down.

Danger also got the Cats out of jail against the Pies earlier in the year. Pundits were right when they said he wouldn't repeat his performance vs the Hawks. No Danger the Lions could have beaten the Hawks by 50 odd today ;).

With 5 of 6 of the qf/gf double ups going the loser of the qf's way, it does seem in some ways it is a disadvantage to win the qf. I hope teams won't tank the qf for that reason though. I think while that's the reason, Brisbane again saved their best for the last game. They've always stepped up in must win games this season, the ultimate clutch side.
Disadvantage to win the QF is bs. Everyone wants the week off and be one win away from a GF. No matter what the record is. Lions would have been favourites it that's the case.
