Trade week we will be wishing for Neale/Ah Chee/A Davies/Starcevich/Butler/T Young.
Most likely end up with Starcevich/Butler/T Young/Robertson.
Geez I hope we pull a rabbit out of a hat that seems to be lurking that no one knows about!
Thats wildly amibitious of you with the most likely part

I suspect Butler/T.Young dont come, especially Butler

I don't think Atkins, Drew, or Dunkley are a Sharp type plyer. Cripps is too far back. Guys like him don't last until 11 anymore. I see Sharp as a Cripps like player.

That's my point. Unless they're Tom Green good, or close to that level, they don't cut it and will probably get delisted. That's why you have to spend a top 5 pick on this type of player.

This is all conjecture pulled out of your arse.

Sharp was the best player in the champs. Therefore, he is as good a chance as any to be able to go on with it.

Show me an inside extractor bull type player who was picked out side the top 5 in the last 10 years. There will be a few, but once you crunch the numbers, you'll discover they are very hard to pick outside the top 5.
I just don’t see it though. He misses handballs, isn’t clean all the time, his kicks are also loopy as f*ck.

I know he’s 18, but if that’s his one wood, and you’re going top 2, you better be having the hands and vision of Neale, Green or prime Oliver in close, and I just don’t think he does.

"The Eagles are believed to have offered the 26-year-old as many as six years to move, despite concerns over the star’s previous concussions..."

Get absolutely rogered. List management is going to deserve the blowback from fans when the inevitable happens.

Despite all these "missed handballs" and "loop de loop" kicks, was he the best player at the Champs?

I'll answer it for you: Yes. Hands down. No one disagrees.

But you "can't see it"?

Sheed, Graham and Dev have all won a Larke medal. I’m not saying hes going to be their level but it’s hardly a guarantee.

I have only watched highlights to be fair, but the SANFL ones I saw he didn’t look like he made quick decisions in close or gave multiple efforts.

For a guy that’s the most “finished product” of the draft with not a whole lot of versatility I guess I was expecting more. More quick handballs out of congestion, cleaner hands. But I didn’t really see any of that.

This is where I think we have done our due diligence and the reason we asked the AFL, as part of our assistance package, special exemption to take starc without diluting pick 2. In other words let us take him, knowing the concussion risks, but ensure we don't have to cough up much to do so. Yesterday may have sealed that part of the deal

For me, best available come with caveats:

  • Only choose a balanced mid, bull, or elite KPF with a top 5 pick.
  • Never choose a KPD, outside mid, or SF with a top 5 pick.
  • A ruckman has to be ridiculous in order to take top 5. NicNat, Luke Jackson.

There's exceptions - you might be a top 8 club, traded in a top 5 pick. One of these "exotics" might be the missing jigsaw piece. So you might take a Nick Watson or Tauru.

So for me, he's just not at the Nicnat or Luke Jackson level. I've seen CDT's highlights reel, and he's a fair way back. That's not saying he won't be an A-grade player. I would just rather take Sharp, Robey, or Cummings.

Duursma is a bit of a risk. Duursma and CDT is too risky IMO.
I would love to have CDT on the list but agree, its a big risk. He may only start showing something in year 3 and it will be contract time for him. Not sure if hes a mommas boy but he is Victorian and not sure where we will be at in 3 years time. I would hope pushing for finals but impossible to know atm. Would hate to see him looking like gold in year 3 and he takes a big offer elsewhere after we did all the hard work developing him. In a few years time, CDT would be a nice one to draft dont think this year is the time to spend a high pick on a prospect like him.

Mids, mids, mids. Will help make the B team competitive, which helps the main team.

I'm so proud of you boys.

The Eagles have won 11 games in the last 4 seasons combined and you campaigners are still posting minute by minute about CDT's natural position, the merits of splitting picks, and salary cap impacts from medical retirements.

God bless you all
We arent considered the best fanbase in the AFL for nothing :)

I mean, that's pretty pathetic isn't it?

Begging the AFL to allow us to take a bloke that is 1 contest and 5 mins away from forced retirement.

If this is the best the club can come up with this offseason... deary me need to go back to the drawing board.

A lot of 19 years don't do f-all at wafl/sanfl/vfl level. As far as I'm aware, he's been okay. Hewitt played for Swan Districts and didn't do anything.

He was not concussed yesterday.

Duursma is best as an outside mid but he's getting a bit undersold as a utility. Could see him as a Hunter type if he can put on some weight and play a 3rd tall wherever he's needed or as an Embley type if he can play more of a wing/half forward.

Hopefully we have asked the AFL to allow us to pay medical concussion retirements outside of the cap for all years as part of the compensation package.

No way that is true. They just telling fibs so it isn’t discussed during the week as a talking point

Was confirmed by the AFL on the footy show this morning. Barrett confirmed he had the tests and was cleared to return to the field but was not required.

So for those pushing Duursma at pick 1 based on being the best available, do you accept CDT at pick 2 on the same basis?

And don’t reply “No he’s not the best available” because you are wrong and your opinion is irrelevant when going off the actual rankings that clubs have, from people who do this professionally.

Assuming you are right and he is the best available (you aren't but your post clearly shows you aren't open to discussion about why you might be wrong), best available what exactly? Is he the best midfielder? Best KPF? Best KPD? Best Ruck? What is he? Where does he play for us week 1 next year to make us better? He might be a unicorn, I dont see it but if he is I'm happy to admit it in 5 years. He needs a team where he wont be exposed or put on an island. That isnt us.

Now if you're open to discussion of why he might not be a unicorn:

I cant see how he is the best anything?

He cant beat 18 year olds in ths ruck reliably how is that any better than what we have?

Which KPF is he replacing? Shanahan? Waterman?
what about Forward Ruck? Archer Reid? Jack Williams? He has the accuracy of Archer Reid with worse ruck work and worse marking ability. Is that what we need to get the team back on track?

Hes so high up because he could be anything. We dont have the luxury to take the high risk- high reward player. We need to take reliably good picks. Sharp has the highest floor in the draft and Duursma has the highest ceiling and probably top 5 floor. Those need to be our targets.

Yeah I get that but I’m not worried about stats necessarily. The eye test just doesn’t sit right with me. I wouldn’t say he has any elite athletic traits nor does he have elite hands or vision.

Hard as he played out of position a fair bit. He spent lots of time forward. His best quality is his stoppage work. In under the football and his first step out of a stoppage are pretty impressive. He had a few quarters here or there where he got midfield time and held his own. He just finds where the ball is going and puts himself at the drop so well, handy if you have unreliable ruckwork.
