Whoops you found 4. Carey and Matthews were the first 2 that came into my mind.

Hardie winning in 1985 averaging 18 disposals from the back pocket.
Ablett averaged 17 disposals & 4 goals from half forward flank that very same year.

Carey's 1996 in which he averaged 18 disposals & 3 goals from centre half forward.

Everyone knows that the best player doesn't always win the Brownlow. And inside mids poll votes its the way it is.

The last KPP (non mid) spine player to win was Wynd in 92. It’s been a loooong time since a ruck, FF, CHF, CHB, FB won

So the BIGGEST CHEATER in the game... Matt Rowell.. the player throws the ball the most of any player in the league, and gets looked after by umpires...suprise suprise, gets the most votes from those same umpires. What a joke.
What a whiney little person you are. Are you sure you aren't really a Collingwood supporter? You're clearly pissed off that Daicos didn't win the medal and you were all upset in another thread that Elliott didn't get a free kick in the PF. Why do you care so much, did you have money on them or something?

Here was my round 20 using season algorithm (Not my finals one)

AFL rating in column two
Max Gawn was about 10% overvalued

West Coast 12 votes! Individual maximum of 3!
Regardless of West Coast’s dreadful season, it is amazing. Even considering they won only one game, they were not as uncompetitive as GWS back in 2013, or Fitzroy in 1996, or Melbourne in 1981.

Kevin Murray in 1964 and John Lewis in 1931 won more votes than West Coast did collectively, playing for a side with no wins. De facto, Murray did so in 1963 as well: he did not play in Fitzroy’s only win and still won 14 votes. Neil Roberts in 1955 finished third for a side with one win and a percentage 15 points worse than West Coast had this year.

Another Dalgleish controversial game

I didn't give Rowell any votes for this game, he was ranked low. Lot of clangers

TBF it wasn't controversial, just a really difficult game. GC win and all the best players are from Adelaide. Some set of umps find it hard to give the 3 to the losing team even in close losses. And not common for a losing team forward getting the 3 either. FWIW these were some of my notes from that game, 2nd half didn't have a lot of standouts and they basically just went with the good first half guys.

HT- crows by 1pt rowell best on been a real bull and 2 goal assists, touk miller other real good sun. Rankine and Peatling the best crows. Dawson not in it
FT - Gold coast won by 1, hard votes. Dawson probably best 2nd half. Rowell and Anderson quiet in end. Miller was quite good. Rankines touches were influential. Thilthorpe could get in it but had some bad moments.

The issue is with voting as such and I'm not entirely sure how they do it but imagine a polarizing scenario, or lopsided with different umpires interpretation.

Say 4 umpires give a set of 3 votes and all vote differently of each other. OR do they collaborate and give a final 3?

The other issue is umpires probably won't notice intercept spoils, intercept marks marginally fare better, and other game winning efforts.

They probably see more impact from things like goals, center clearances, inside 50s more than anything which is why midfielders and 5 goal games get votes. How can you have a guy get 18 intercept disposals and get no votes?

Also, I decided to rerun my new formula on that current game and might piss a few people off but it penalizes poor disposal greater than before, and tones down ruck bias I had previously. Here are the results

I did watch that game, and I remember Rowell getting a lot of the ball but was rather sloppy given the pressure he was under. Thilthorpe was really solid but missed the opportunity to win. Despite the commentary in thread on Mac Andrew he had 4 contested 1 on 1 wins, 14 spoils.

The notable difference in this and my in season score was the buff to defenders.

Rankine had 7 clangers, Rowell 8. Umpires will never acknowledge that but those have significant implications to a team winning.
