Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Multi club trades are quite common..
Charlie may well end up at the Cats if other clubs can satisfy what we want, and they get what they want.

Difficult- yes
Has it happened before- yes

The trade in 2024 that involved Kennedy, Macrea and Bailey Smith involved 4 clubs..

Who's time are they wasting??
Trade week/s hasn't even started..

Edit: also, there's no reason why this might not be a multi club deal where he gets to the Cats, and other clubs are involved with picks/players moving all over the shop..
Geelong are giving up nothing of value to any club.
lf you enjoy the drawn out theatre of trade week fair enough.

Then why waste everybody's time.
Select a club that there is a chance of getting a deal done.
Geelong are always tough to deal with year on year, difference this year they are after players under contract.
Carlton's position must be "Charlie is contracted and required". When teams come to us with rubbish offers, bat the offer away and trot out the "Charlie is contracted and required" right until the either (i) the end or (ii) a deal too good to refuse is put up. No picking clubs, no dealing with anyone, let any interested parties come offering.

Marshall for them won’t be easy as well.

I dont think anyone enjoys the drawn out trade week.. I definitely don't.
But we don't know what Geelong may or may not give up, as it hasn't started yet.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see..

For what its worth, I'd say Sydney is the destination.

Haven’t been hard to deal with at all, that is until Mackie came into the fold and is the twat of difficulty in the industry.

You only do it for a deal to good to refuse. Zero chance the end of trade period changes that fact.

I think if/when we trade Charlie it'll come down to the last day or two of the trade period. Both clubs at the end will maintain that talks were amicable throughout the trade period and that they remained in discussions throughout.

I'll be pretty pissed if Charlie does come out and nominate geelong knowing they have very little to offer us, he at least should be open to anyone that offers us the most in return, Sydney and GC at least might offer us something of value
I’d be happy with that, means he will be staying and can blame the Cats for not making a serious offer.

If we roll over for Geelong we might as well pack it up as a club.

Confident we will hold firm. It is not up to us to set the terms, its up to them to propose a offer too good to refuse. They don't have the picks we want and I'm struggling to see what they'd be able to contribute to a multi trade with other clubs as their late 1sts offer nothing of significant value. It would essentially involve a few other teams offering Geelong a massive favour by letting them take Curnow while offering not much in the grand scheme of the trade.

In reality they will have to put up a contracted star but why would a Holmes, Miers, Dempsey or Sullivan want to leave Geelong for Carlton right now?

If Geelong is the destination, Charlie is staying. I can understand wanting to move interstate to get out of the Victorian footy "bubble" but going 90 minutes down the highway is seriously taking the piss.

Why not stay and contribute to building our culture through showing some leadership rather than cutting and running after giving absolutely no heart or effort all year?

I swear a lot of modern footballers just want to be brands not professional athletes.

Geelong will need to choose between Marshall & Curnow, they simply do not have trade assets available to do both.
Marshall makes much more sense for them, and l am sure they will be able to do this deal but not Curnow.
They are not giving up Holmes & Dempsey & SDK or O'Sullivan to any club.
Their 1st pick approx 20 will go to St Kilda probably need to add something to this for Marshall.

Curnow holds zero bargaining power. I'd rather hold him to his contract and make him sit out the game than rollover like lambs to the slaughter and give him away for SFA. Clubs need to take a stand...players can sign contracts that either give them long term security or short term flexibility. There isn't a world where they get both.

Such certitude at this point in time is foolhardy.

A lot to play out in the next few weeks...

It doesn't really matter, the two (or more) clubs could agree today and the AFL media scrum would insist on keeping it rolling until the last day of the trade period for clicks, Trade Radio listeners, media spots and to stay relevant through the NRL GF and any other sporting story from another code.

The socceroos could play a game on Mars and the AFL would release a fixture update at the same time to stay in the news cycle.

Doesn't change the fact that the deal needs to he extremely good for us. A deadline doesn't change that. I'm keeping an unhappy Curnow rather than gifting a club a flag.
