Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

**** me, Geelong really turning the tosser dial way up

Anyone who gets mauled in a Grand Final and then still does a Mad Monday two days later is already a tosser.

Anyone would think they won the premiership and didn't outright embarrass themselves on the biggest stage.

If not for some conversion in the first half and 17-4 Port Adelaide's 119 would've been obliterated.

Soft draw toward the end of the season and riding a wave confidence to get to the gf...

Lions not turning up in the qf certainly helped too.

Having said that, I think they're approaching the cliff as well... maybe not as rapidly as Collingwood, but they are one key midfielder injury away from really struggling against top 8 sides imo.

Bumping my post from a few weeks ago in light of Bailey Smith's post today.

Don't assume that the "A" grader we are chasing will come from the club Charlie goes to. So many scenario's to play out and Cats wouldn't throw hat into ring unless they think they can believe they can get it done

This has been months in the planning and we need numerous picks for F/S, Academies and other traded players like Khamis, Cheeser, Reidy, Florent and a couple more.

Flanders is a no. We won't even offer him a contract

Deep down we know the Charlie deal could unlock numerous options for us. As an example could help us get Walker next year along with Top 3 pick this year and a couple of good role players. Not to mention room in SC to go after Free Agents over next few years

Told by so many people at weekend that Charlie has made it clear he doesn't want to go back.

Wright is looking at this as a 2 year list balancing exercise with most done this year. He rates our youth especially with Jagga, Dean, Ison and Walker being added. Middle tier is his biggets focus
Charlie's may be keen to get to Geelong but l can see Geelong making Marshall their priority, Stanley is close to retirement, Cameron & Neale are fine not sure they will see Curnow as a priority if they need to give up 1-2 Quality players even involving a third party.
Not having any valuable draft picks does not help them.

Let's go over them, I'll give my take:

Williams - only there because he can't cut it as a mid (which is what we brought him in for) and he can't be trusted in the back line. He has a quality kicking ability and at times can create a head ache, but that's getting rarer as each game passes. Turning 32 next year, he's not going to be part of a future flag tilt.

Moir - loving what he offers and is producing. Definitely one that will be part of our future. He'll get more consistent as he gets more experience. Solid kicking at goal ability too.

Motlop - had a poor season. He showed that he lacks leg speed, smarts and at times effort... the club has put some faith in him (although, it's more probably because no other clubs showed any real interest in him) so he has 2 seasons to lift. He has age on his side, he has talent... let's see if he can put it together.

Fogarty - trade him. I've had enough. He's a ghost. He's supposed to provide relentless tackling pressure... I didn't see it this year. Missing set shots from 20M out on a slight angle (yes I know he's not the only one) but at 26 yrs old, he should have the level head to nail those EASILY. So he's not kicking anywhere near enough goals, he's not applying enough defensive pressure, he doesn't offer us anything up forward. Happy with a 3rd round pick if we can get it.

Evans - showed some really good signs late in the season after copping a fair whack on here most of the season. He's not a world beater, but he deserved his extension and is still quite young too so, lets see if he can perform more consistently next year.

White - showed promising signs but overall, I'm not sure he'll be on the list for much longer. He just goes missing too much imo, doesn't kick enough goals.

Durdin - forgot about this one... another disappointing season... how many before we pull the pin and delist/trade him? Offers nothing more than the others I listed.

Lij - see ya later mate. Sucks but it is what it is.

One glaring thing missing from all of them is, they don't kick enough goals. The other issue is, they don't apply enough pressure in the f50 either. Moir is the only one I can see being part of a premiership side in the future. Outside chance - Evans.
Thoughts on Flynn Young?

Yeah, I think that's where people get stuck. Assuming an A-Grader has to come from the club we are trading Charlie too. That club could easily just give up picks if those picks can be traded to another club for a player.

In either case, if we do get a player, it's got to come from us chasing someone. Clubs don't push out good players anymore. Not just because they don't want to give them up but because they don't want to get the player offside.

In today's player movement environment, no good player is going be traded to a club just to help their current club. If Gold Coast said to Walter we want to trade you for Curnow, there's a decent chance Walter says, "Fine you don't value me but I'm not going to Carlton. Trade me to Collingwood (for example)". If we want a player, we'll need to approach their management and win them over. Not force their club to hand them over.

Surprised about Flanders since we reportedly were chasing him. Any idea why we aren't offering him a deal or whether we are still confident getting Walker with the reported bid matching changes?

Thoughts on Flynn Young?

Too early to make a convincing call.

I thought he really struggled with the increased pace of the game in his early games. Once he settled he looked substantially better.

Big summer for him.

It wouldn't be surprising if he became a regular member of our best 22 moving forward and a quality contributor. It also wouldn't be surprising if he didn't make it. Very good VFL floor with a moderately high AFL ceiling.

I hope he gets another year to show what he is capable of.

Rate him higher than white but apprecaite they play diffirent roles. White misses too many shots for mine and we have enough of those already

Moir woudl be the only one Id feel some comfort in betting my life on him kicking a goal

F me, Geelong are really endearing themselves, aren't they? Baz is looking more and more like a w***er every day. Thinks he's teflon (maybe he is for now) but it'll catch up to him and I don't think he'll be able to pull any excuses when it happens.

Now I hope more than ever we just don't even pick up the phone to Mackie and Geelong. Charlie playing there would make me furious.

On another note, Mal Rosas has preferenced Sydney. I wonder if this opens the door for one of the inferred Campbell or Hayward to come to us after all.

Andrew Dillon will just visit his house again to remind him that he is a role model for kids. Quietly overlooking his well known extra curricular activities…. which is likely the reason for why he wore those ridiculous sunglasses to the Brownlow medal. Bailey Smith is more trouble than he’s worth. I mean look at his likely podium finish performance for the Leon Davis medal. Embarrassing person.

Funnily enough, he’s the type of character who would crap out all of Geelong’s dirty secrets after he’s retired.

I agree with the caveat being that White is a little more than 2 years younger than Flynn. Think he has a lot more scope for genuine improvement than Flynn in that I think what we get from Young next year will be closer to what he's going to be while it may be 2027 for Will.

A lot of Will's skill errors were a lack of composure and experience. Something not unexpected for a kid his age.

Good to hear Soapy. Doing a lot of hypotheticals in my head, I'm most excited about that next generation group taking the step over the next few years.

Smith has just made the Cats a club to hate even more. Danger has obviously been told to keep Smith on a short lead, goodluck doing that today.
Im not suprised Charlie's in a business with Smith they seem to be cut from the same cloth.
I hope Charlie doesn't get his wish to go to the Cats. He needs to grow up and start acting professional.

So there's an "A" grader that we are chasing, that is not from Geelong?

I would just like to thank the poster who follows Bailey Smith on social media so the rest of us don’t have to. Quite the community service.

Yep, this type of dog sh!t with moves trying to be set up middle of the season whilst in-contract (L/T) and in the leadership of the club is poor form.

Sorry Charlie, Geelong is not happening for you under our watch and the signed contract. That’s what you get for being a conniving campaigner.
