Harry Cunningham

Player Profile

Harry Cunningham is one of the quickest players at the Sydney Swans, is clean by hand and foot and can play in defence, on a wing and in the forward line. The 2012 draftee was in blistering form over the opening seven rounds of the 2019 campaign, before injury limited him to just two games over the remainder of the season, so expect him to be hungry for a comeback 2020 year. Draft history: 2012 Rookie Draft selection (Sydney) No. 93; 2012 AFL Draft rookie elevation (Sydney) selection No. 107

Harry Cunningham

DOB: 06 December 1993
DEBUT: 2012
DRAFT: 2012
RECRUITED FROM: Turvey Park (NSW)/NSW-ACT U18/Wagga (NSW)

Yeah, when I think about the Pies game and Hill and Elliott having it all their own way. Love to see Wicksy, with total conviction, cracking into Elliott at 100mph.

Surely Roberts isn't vying for either of their roles. People go on about McLeans turning circle... Roberts isn't much better in my opinion.

Brave post , reminds me of people standing in front of Plugger on a lead

Harry is reported to now have played the most games in AFL history without a single Brownlow vote.

standing ovation
*Assuming he didn't poll one in the previous 3 games

Assuming that is the case, and with people commonly holding an opinion that Harry could never be Nick Smith, have we reached a point where it is indisputable that Nick Smith could never be Harry?

Or is it that Harry has surpassed Nick as the greatest sh*t player? I'm confused :confusedv1:

Only endears both further into my heart.

Just checked the stats and looks like Dwayne Russell was wrong. Taylor Duryea (whom Russell mentioned) is still ahead of Cunningham 219 v 212, and he's back in the Bulldogs team so it looks unlikely Cunningham will overtake him this year.

I assume Russell meant Cunningham was overtaking Nick Smith (211 games) as the Swans with the most games without a Brownlow vote.

Forget the exact numbers - but during today’s game it was stated that over the last few years, our win % with Cunningham in the side is roughly 75%, but when he’s not there, it plummets to well below 50%.

Harry isn’t flashy - but plays smart footy & I reckon he’s more important than perhaps we realise.

Nick Smith not having collected a single Brownlow vote is criminal given some of the jobs he did on Cyril, Betts and Stevie J.

As for Harry, another great game tonight. I was dead wrong thinking he might struggle to secure a spot back in the side.

I thought no way he and wicks play together tbh, and heck me I was wrong, made Wicks even better, good duo.

They gave our stats with and without Cunningham the last few years, winning % drops a lot without him.

I think there's a fair few that realise.

As referred to above;
For posterity (as per commentary in the NM game)

Recent record with Harry 23 W - 6 L (incl win v NM)
without him 5 W - 10 L

:thumbsu:

Rookie draft selection to 200 game player.
Hell he don't need no stinkin' Brownlow votes.

(As an aside the following year we took Lloyd and Rampe in the rookie draft.
Be nice to get back to those sort of rookie wins, 3 x 200 game players).
:sadv1:

I am not sure why we keep tip toeing around it. This blokes ego is out of control and he is bringing down the whole team with him.

He gets injured, comes back, plays one or two good games, and then throws the toys out of the cot when a teammates overlooks him for Gulden or JMac when running out of defence.

Come to think of it, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was behind all of our GF capitulations.

This guy shouldn’t be on the trade table. He should be on the axe table. Get rid of him before he does further damage to our list.

I thereby declare Gus to be easily THE most interesting player on the Sydney Swans list*.

* Except for Logan, who has racked up 122 pages. But he's on the Bigfooty inactive list for now, so doesn't count. Chad, Heeney and Papley fall outside the bounds of this study.

JJ and Harry are clearly in need of some controversy to boost their poster appeal.
Did I do it right?
