Remember when the theme was we weren't ruthless enough because we could never bury teams. Except in Grand Finals.

Geelong buried 8 teams in the lead up to the finals.

It does make me wonder about the value of burying teams.

Smith's head band dislodge an absolute bonus.

Cam proving it's not aradited to his head.

As one particular add says "compare the pair"

Fagan post-match video after losing a GF by 4 points in 2023
There are some great insights into the future in this video especially after just losing the ultimate AFL prize.
It is well worth watching again in hindsight.
And of course, the very different attitude of the two coaches, at least in front of the media.

Then we have Chris Scott after losing by 47 points that could have easily been 60 plus.

How many did the Bulldogs bury this year?
A lot!
No better place to bury a team than in a Grand Final.

Have watched the replay a couple of times now and I thought Darcy Fort and Darcy Gardiner were very good live but they were even better than that having a closer look on replay.... exceptional.

Also Zac Bailey's strength and endeavour is underrated... elite.

Just right: The incredible AFL first in Lions' premiership win

Club listening too much to Homer.

We need to get a premiership medal for Drapes next year. Justice for Drapes.

For Kiddy
For Payne
For Doedee
For Berry
For McCarthy
For Answerth
For Allen
For Drapes

Sad that we're going to have to drop a lot of our best 23 for these guys to ensure they all get a medal in 2026 :(

Flew into Brisbane tonight, what an amazing 5 days.

Grand Final parade, open training, THE GF, BSO.

Could not believe how well we played, I was not confident going in, we dominated the game from start to finish, just couldn't finish our work off in the first half and most of the 3rd quarter.

Eventually the Cats crumbled under our relentless defensive pressure and our dare on offence... the flood gates opening was inevitable.

I went with Fletcher, Zorko, Andrews, W.Ashcroft and McCluggage as the Fab 5, also thought Gardiner, Fort, Bailey, Cameron, Starcevich and Wilmot were exceptional.

Going through all the tough years as a supporter makes these Premierships even sweeter.
Yes we were lucky enough to get down Thursday and came back Monday arvo.
So good to walk around the whole weekend with my scarf on and my quernsey.
People coming up to me yesterday and giving me fist pumps, so good.
Visit the home of the Lions Fitzroy on Thursday.
Had lunch in the Rose Hotel, great old Victorian Pub.
See the parade and the Captains run and to witness the boys and be there at the game in a section full of Lions supporters.
Totally recommend it if you can do the whole football weekend.
So happy for Charlie to do what he did, for mind we were struggling to convert then we couldn't stop singing Country Roads.
So good to run into a few fans from our section at the Gabba as well.
Didn't get to meet any of you guys/ gals , one day.
Edit: I should say we not me.
The better half had a ball as well wearing the gear all weekend.

Funny thing this year was I didn't get emotional when we won , but I did get a bit choked up when we started the march form Federation square.
Was great to be a part of it all.
Also great reading on here over the weekend .
Back to reality , bad thing about being away from work for a few days, kaotic.
Need another break lol.

Yep one of the shows highlighted all the tackles that Zac made, not something we would have seen a couple of years ago.

Has taken me a while to get through all the great insights!

The one thing that has struck me is that ever since we became good again i have known one thing for sure; this group is not a patch on 01-04. But I am now starting to wonder - could this side be as good? It's a longer period of success and that means players have cycled through more. But given some of the young talent, who knows were we could get to

Trying not to double-up, and as ever writing this mainly for myself:

THE GOOD

Tactics - Geelong ambushed us in the QF. We did it back to them. Coming with their half forwards at stoppage. Gardiner straight to Cameron. Last quarter Rayner just crunching them in tackles off the back of the square. Ah Chee to Dempsey (apart from the cheap goals at the end). Clugga copping the tag and freeing up Bailey. Neale as sub and wound up ready to go. Do i dare to dream we might regularly utilise our sub from now on before there is 5 minutes to go??

Fitness - there must be something we are doing very right to manage to play our best game in the GF two years running after 27 games. And to do it this time to a side so well prepped and rested, after three quarters of an arm wrestle, was superb

Winning a flag with those key forwards - We had easily the least credentialed KF in the finals. Undersized Morris 20yo, Gallop in his 6th game, and a big loping ruckman about to retire. A testament to our willingness to pressure is that we made it to work. Fair to say i was wrong!

Keeping Charlie in the side - another in the I was wrong category. I just couldn't fathom some of the efforts he put in this year. But he still has talent, and he worked bloody hard in the SF and PF, and got his reward today. His first goal was a thing of beauty.

The master motivator - the half time revenge chat against Collingwood in the PF. Run towards the fire. Leigh Matthews gets quoted endlessly in the media. I think Fagan will be in the decades to come.

Darcy Fort - i thought he got it going so well for us, some deft taps and taking ground when he could. Such an unlikely type. So pleased for him

Zorks - not enough is said about HOW well he is going at 36yo. Pendlebury is a freak but even he has slowed down and gets rested / subbed out. Zorko has played 27 games the past 2 years. Not off once. Plenty of knocks and niggles. And still he is an absolute jet. His reading of the play is as good as i've seen from half back. Should have been AA and a lot closer in the norm

Harris - has taken his game to new heights since Payne went down. No way we get even close to a flag without Harris. And his ability to play directly on players more while still providing intercept marks has been crucial. His game on Ben King was the most complete shut down job you'll see.

Clugga - how good is his goal kicking when it matters know? They ease the tag for one quarter and he just cuts them to ribbons. Fought through the tag well to still have an impact

Probably enough said about the rest!

THE BAD

Losing premiership stars in Ah Chee and Starce. Starce i get re more years and a lot more money. Can't help but feel we could have found a little more to keep Ah Chee, but then that's impossible to say without comparing the books, and we do need a key forward and ruck. I wonder if a cheaper ruck would have been the better option, someone like Ned Reeves.

THE UGLY

Starce getting knocked out - for his sake, whatever happens, let's just hope it's way on the minor side. It was a direct hit on the head so at least it made sense he was knocked out, unlike say the sydney game

Chris Scott's pressa - learn how to use the sub rule mate. It's not hard. It was negligent leaving Cameron out there until the final siren. And you can't just say there is this huge reason we had a hard year then not elaborate. 7 minutes and then wrapped. Sports journalists are mostly sycophants when talking IN PERSON to coaches, would have loved him to get a proper grilling.

THE PREDICTABLE

Dangerfield being quiet - have a look at his season's stats. Only one game of more than 20 possessions for the year before the prelim, and only 3 games of 3+ goals. It was a freak game but clearly put every effort he could in to it. People lining up to back him for the Norm Smith!
