Will we actually iver pay?

If we paid 3 firsts that's over paying. I don't think anything less than that is overpaying.
This is an important negotiation to secure Petracca. In hindsight we were saved from ourselves by Melbourne refusing two firsts for Petty and NM rejected three firsts for JHF. What we have hopefully learned is that there is always another way and you don't need to overpay for a 30 year old who had a life threatening injury 16 months ago. I would stand my ground on Pick 14 and a third. I wouldn't be trading away Butts for chips even though they might want him as he would have likely held his spot in the best 23 if he hadn't been injured. He's a valuable commodity at a current low cost

just listening to SEN and heard someone from Melbourne say about both Petracca and May; "he's a contracted player..."

I'd sort of forgotten, but it really is the season of cliches.

overs/unders etc.... god help us all.

I reckon with being able to trade picks further into the future we will see a hell of lot of three and four club deals popping up.

In fact I reckon it becomes closer to the norm with 1:1 deals becoming more about 'helping each other out' pick swaps and straight up salary dumps.

If the AFL get player permission out of the road then watch it go ballistic.

The timing is irrelevant. Petracca told Melbourne late last week that he wanted out and visited AFC after that. There's not necessarily any link between the end of Petracca's visit and Melbourne's announcement today.
Given that they knew Petracca was heading to Adelaide on Sunday, why wouldn't Melbourne get on the front foot and release the statement first thing Monday? Even Kane Cornes had mail last Friday that the trade request was coming.

MIlera should look at Zorko's finals series as a template for how he needs to play his position. WMJ is a senior player now, he has the skills, he just cant be a handoff player anymore, he needs to be aggressive off half back, make opposition teams uncomfortable.
Exactly. And he can be particularly slippery when he wants too. He has the agility, leg speed and skills to pull it off. Just needs to be given the permission / confidence to take the risks. We can live with the odd turnover / HTB if we have to (and have set up behind him accordingly)

Do you think that’s the way he’s been coached though?

Timing is everything

Petracca goes public with his wish to be traded the next morning after meeting with Adelaide

Having his manager present yesterday would not have been just a football discussion but also 1. Can the crows accomodate his contract, and 2. Can the crows get a trade done

A yes on these two questions - clears the path for a trade

I think pick 14 and a second more likely *assuming we are picking up a fair amount of his contract.

Also, agree with the Butts. People will disagree, but I thought he was much better than Murray this year (and if not for the Lynch punch would have kept his spot in the side). To that end, I actually reckon we should re-train Murray to take Tex's role up forward...keeping Butts in the side. Wont happen though I know..

Anything in this article?

I'd be happy to do a straight-swap for Hollands. The talent is clearly there with EH, and we have nothing to lose by taking a punt.

Murray as a forward ?? Nah.

The frustrating thing is he does do it sometimes and I reckon more times than not it leads to a score. One of the few players we have in the back half who can hit a low bullet pass that opens up the forward half.

It's just that you may see him only do it once every 2-3 games and the rest of the time he's a very safe player.

I'm fine with 2 firsts and something coming back.

Surely the Dees are far more concerned with getting his contract off the books given how the relationship has seemingly deteriorated, then they are with the trade value they can get?

I’m only speculating, but I’d imagine they would be willing to accept unders in terms of the picks we could offer if it means they can free up more cap room.

So Melbourne want a player

We're going to 'Dean Gore' them aren't we?

Noble’s only piece of trading brilliance. Getting Cats to include Gore for 50 to pollute the Danger trade to delay the outcome being obvious. Was amazing how the rainbows and lollipop brigade swallowed the ‘would go early 2nd in this years draft’ or ‘Cats were going to play him in the 1s next year’ garbage. Shit at a lot of things, knowing his rank and file audience wasn’t one of them.
