Id say the below would have played in any GF

Harry Edwards over Darcy Gardiner
Tom McCarthy over Ryan Lester
Brady Hough over Brandon Starcevich
Jake Waterman over Ty Gallop
Harley Reid over Bruce Reville
Elijah Hewett over Sam Marshall

I rate Edwards and think he's a better footballer than Gardiner but he's a terrible matchup for Cameron.

For what it’s worth, I don’t even think the Suns pick 6 will be available to us, I think they’ll trade for Curnow or Petracca and that’ll obviously be the centrepiece of any deal unfortunately.
We just have to threaten Bris and GC with bids at 1,2,3 to extract the best deals for us.

It may be 19 for GC F1 (maybe plus more), or we trade up to get 6, or any other number of options.

How they find the required points if they trade 6 for a player will be interesting.

It's amazing that so called experts who are paid to give their opinions can be so out of touch and show a complete lack of understanding/context while being so confident to the point of arrogance. Jenkins is the only one with a little bit of sense which says a lot as he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Would love for someone to call up and point Barrett on the spot and ask him to back up his opinions.

Blaming arrogance and saying everyone in footy saw WC downfall coming after 2018/19 is pure revisionism and there's probably never been a club lose so many stars at their peak in such a short time to reoccurring soft tissue injuries, concussions and impact injuries. Yes the drafting in that period was poor but we were a club who had played finals 5/6 seasons in a row while also travelling the most in the competiton by a long way, which then coincided with covid lockdowns and soft cap cuts that hurt us far greater than east coast teams.

He then talks about the club being the richest in the country but he clearly has no basic understanding of the soft cap or luxury tax works and that exceeding it is essentially untenable as it compounds year after year, and then what are you supposed to do, just sack the extra staff you hired?

How are you supposed to access the best talent in coaching and medical when we are so geographically isolated and not even able to spend the extra money to make the move worth it? Not to mention the club is run by the WAFC who probably don't want to piss away the same profits they use to fund WA footy on an insane tax.

He's pulling his hair out over us receiving one measly end of first round pick that will probably come in around 30 despite North, GC etc getting far more as assistance and the fact that basically all the current top teams have been rorting the draft in one way or another to a far greater extent for years now, which has created a far harsher rebuilding environtment today than at any time in the past.

Guy is a low IQ w***er and has been thieving a living for way too long.

They can find the points with ease, even if you take 6 off the table they have 13,16, 32, 57 and 68 - they’ll be trading Flanders for a first round pick, they’ll get a pick in the 30-40 range for Rosas and Fiorini may leave as well. They’ll be able to improve their points tally by trading 13,16 and the Flanders pick.

Agreed with TerryFilk. THey aren't trading F1's given they no doubt have another academy kid coming through that they will need points for next year, under the more regressive matching system.

They have plenty of points this year.

Anyone got a player comparison? Inside mid? Link and spread mid? Defensive mid?
2023-4 not so much midfield time
2025 midfield most of the year. Can find it

Unfortunately, the pies have had him under there nose "Blamires, who works in Collingwood’s commercial hospitality division". Given there shit draft hand this year I can see them using one of there late picks on him.

I hope Starcevich does a Dev and stays at Brisbane for the 3peat ..
I still think he’d be a great get at the right price (ie NOT either of the late firsts we have but a second or F2), and with the right contract (shorter length and/or games clauses etc following on his GF hit). We gotta be cautious and sensible here.

With the GC pick looking like it off the table i’d want to split 2 personally for 3 top 10s

Ideal off season looks like:
Starcevich for our 2nd rounder
Ryan for F2
Chesser for 35
35 for Young
2 and 15 for 5 and 7 from Essendon.

Take 1, 5, 7 and 19 to the draft.
Duursma, Sharp, Cumming and the best KPP at 19 + Banfield.

Absolute revisionism.

Just had a look at the WC 2018 Grand Final team versus the final game this year for all four Prelim and Grand Finallists.

The 2018 GF Eagles team was younger and less experienced than even the Hawks 2025 PF team. So, they should have seen a downfall coming from there? Really?

The side that bowed out in the 2019 SF was still at most comparable with the Brisbane and Hawthorn sides this year (a tiny bit older, but still less games total). Certainly younger than Geelong or Collingwood - reckon they're packing it in and rebuilding next year? I don't.

To see the downfall of that team, you'd have had to predict close to the all time injury crisis. The AFL media has been going on and on about Essendon this year and Richmond last year - they're piddly compared to what happened to the Eagles after 2021.

With the no prelisting of the ngas, how will this work at the draft? Are we gonna keep a bunch of 3rd or 4th rd picks in case they are bid on or hope they are not bid on and make it to rookie list?

It's not that hard. We just shift a few players on the list now to the rookie list - Barnett, Johnstone and Cripps, and if you're ruthless, Yeo. That's four main list spots right there to take them in the ND.

I dont understand why people make such a big deal about us getting assistance. Back in the day you got assistance after 2 consecutive poor seasons regardless of whether you won a premiership recently. We've had 4 consecutive poor seasons now so by the old method would be on our second round of assistance by now. Its only an end of first round pick.
This process was clear & transparent. All clubs were entitled to it if they met criteria.

Bring that the **** back.

To be fair, sans a injuries, the 2019 squad really should have done better.

West Coast massively underperformed within their window, given the squad on paper.

Saints, with all these guys coming in, could well get a sugar hit, (they’ll then fall fast with salary cap issues)

Their future first could be pick 17.
Saints' future first won't be 17

Attached is from Haggas. Also at various points on Zero Hanger has been projected at anywhere from 1-10. He's the most AFL ready player and his champs form was inspiring. Zero Hanger has had us linked to him a few times in the last few weeks at pick 2 following taking Duursma at 1.
That's a phantom draft, not a power ranking. He is guessing where players are picked, not ranking them on talent.

The spots disappear in 2028 so we gotta decide what to do this year

Their isnt any point putting Cripps etc on the rookie list for say 2 years because then we will be in a spot of in 2028 only being able to have 1 year look at someone.

Even if we pick up Tom Berry. I doubt he comes for 1 year etc so maybe we just make it 3 ?

Id personally just be inclined to go Williams/Walley/Evans/Banfield on it myself and simply forget about Tom Berry or the like

Pick 1 West Coast bid on Zeke Uwland (GC match)

Pick 2 West Coast bid on Dylan Patterson (GC match)

Wave goodbye to about 10 picks in the process.

We don’t owe GC shit, it’s in our best interest to burn as many picks in this draft as we can.

Oh and if Lions are muppets too and don’t look after us with Starcevich then bid on Annable too.

We don’t need pick 1 for marketing, we’re still getting the same players so who gives a shit if they are pick 1 or pick 4.

I think we were getting towards the end of it, circa 2018. The window was really 2015 to 2018 when the key players were in that cherry ripe age bracket.

I remember 2016 in particular being very disappointing. We should have made top 4 that year, and to be bundled out at home by the bulldogs was pathetic.
