Finally getting around to the replay, still can’t believe it. 2 years in a row the consensus has been “either swans/cats will belt them or it’ll be a close one”, and 2 years in a row we’ve run away with it.

Side note but how good was Bruce? Best game he’s played for the club, serious case to be best 23 next year.

Agree, and he has room for improvement IMO, still isn't 100% confident at AFL level.

At the start of the year, the two biggest areas of improvement for Wash was his field kicking and his defensive pressure. Slowly but surely, his defensive efforts have gotten better and better (averaging 6 per game in the finals v 2.5 a game last year). On paper, his kicking looks relatively the same as last year in terms of score assists and DE%, but it's felt to me he's taken more time to pick out team mates and has an uncanny ability to his intricate targets when he identifies them. It may not show on the stats page, but certainly seems like that to me in the eye test.

The left foot pass that went to Charlie in the end was a great kick on the opposite side.

I think it’s as simple as they don’t realise Neale isn’t actually that good a forward. I’ve seen nothing but praise from Geelong supporters about him, I assume because he likes to kick bags against crap teams. But he goes to wet cardboard the second any competent defender is put on him.

100% this. Just because he was next cab off the rank after Hawkins, doesn't automatically mean he's going to be anywhere near as good.

It's clear Andrews is in his head though. You could see in the game down at GMHBA in Neale's body language.

There was an article last week where Neale said he felt he'd "flipped the script" a bit in the QF final (possibly because he kicked a junk-time goal?), but nothing was further from the truth. Even in the week prior to the game, Chris Scott was talking him up, and how he was ready to impact. It felt like they were (falsely) trying to build confidence.

If it was there, it all evaporated within 15 mins on Sat, as normal service resumed.

On the flip side, I'm glad Andrews is getting even more plaudits now - we all know he's been criminally underrated for years.

Should have more AA's which for a KPP is saying something.

Yep for sure. That goal Neale kicked was phenomenal but no one is going to kick too many from there and he was beaten all over the ground everywhere else. He might get better as he gets older and stronger but right now, he seems like a bloke who looks like Tarzan but is more look than actual strength. He probably scores bags against younger, less developed KPDs but up against the best, the ones who are mature and actually strong, he gets outmuscled every time.

Not sure who makes the videos but hopefully someone sync's up some of the better radio commentary with the game. Last year someone did it on twitter but they haven't put up any more videos this year.

As one particular add says "compare the pair"

Fagan post-match video after losing a GF by 4 points in 2023
There are some great insights into the future in this video especially after just losing the ultimate AFL prize.
It is well worth watching again in hindsight.
And of course, the very different attitude of the two coaches, at least in front of the media.

Then we have Chris Scott after losing by 47 points that could have easily been 60 plus.

its such a great line "grand final losses dont have to define you"

And Hipwood!

law and order crazy shit GIF

Funny thing this year was I didn't get emotional when we won , but I did get a bit choked up when we started the march form Federation square.
Was great to be a part of it all.
Also great reading on here over the weekend .
Back to reality , bad thing about being away from work for a few days, kaotic.
Need another break lol.
Yeah we were at last years march and this years one. I agree this years one had a lot more kick into it for some reason. Masses of people were present at this years march. My kids had the walking in a lions wonderland sign. Was just an absolute buzz.

Yep, our players and those from the northern clubs seem to have to accumulate a greater body of work to be recognised for individual plaudits / awards and recognition than those at Vic clubs get, particularly at the bigger clubs like Pies, Cats, Blues and Hawks.

A couple of weeks ago we had Garry ****ing Lyon say that if Will Ashcroft played for a Melbourne club he'd be celebrated a lot more. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️
