Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Imo ferris, Florent is no longer much of a quality AFL player. I noticed early in the season his massive drop off in intensity. He was not competing well and i remember saying to a mate that with a few Swans stars missing, it was clear that this guy drops right away.

He was quickly dropped by a new Coach without the sentimental attachment Roosy obviously had as virtually his NSW "dad" after his family stuff as a young guy.

He is still on a big salary for a few years. I'd maybe take him on for nothing. Maybe. But wouldn't spend ANY trade capital.
Wont spend anything on him = won't get him.

How Florent has become some sort of mythical spud is beyond me. He's been a solid or better role player for many years now and not once shown to be below AFL standard. Good runner and a good kick who's susceptible to a brain fade here and there but would come cheap.

Have 0 doubts at all he'd be an instant improvement for our b23 in 2026.

Chris Judd

The midfield is Geelongs weakest area I highly doubt they are trading him for a position they already have strength in.
Cameron will be 33 early into the '26 season.

And yeah, he's been pretty durable, thus far...

Neale has shown a bit, but really?

44 goals this year is a terrific effort, but note in a dominant team where most eyes are guarding Cameron....

How will he go as the big kahuna up there is anyone's guess?

Where is he playing and who does he replace? Will improve the depth but will not move the needle.

Trading pick 19 for a free agent that Brisbane can’t afford to match, would be madness.

Don’t forget if Starcevich went to Eagles as a free agent, the Lions get nothing due to getting Allen and Draper, Brisbane can’t afford to match any offer due to its size and lastly WC have pick 1 in the PSD.

To keep things civil and maintain good relationships, id still call them pathetic if they offered anything more than their 3rd round pick, even that Brisbane end up with a 3rd round pick instead of nothing.
Also west coast will get there AllenCampo diluted or even taken off them after offering starcevich a 6 year contract

Depth is exactly what we're aiming to improve.

Florent is depth of the right kind for us and will likely come cheap in terms of a trade due to his salary which we now have plenty of.

Speed, kicking and comes from a good club in Sydney re culture. Exactly the type we should be targeting.

Pretty sure this was exactly the same discussion when Newman came to us???

Played a few games for Sydney, not best 22 each week, beautiful kick, good 1 on 1. Now Newman is a 'move the needle' player and was sorely missed this year, apparently??

I think the expectations here have always been too high for a 29yo with his injury history, even though at his best he is an unplayable talent.

Players to have kicked the most goals over the past four seasons

J Cameron - 270
C Curnow - 234
J Hogan - 207
N Larkey - 196
T Walker - 191
A Naughton - 190
C Cameron - 189
T Greene - 188
B Fritsch - 170
B King - 166

He's miles in front of everyone other than Jeremy Cameron. And that's after a really shit 2025. Note: he was actually 20 goals clear in front of Cameron across 2022-2024 and 40+ compared to everyone else.

He's taken more marks than all of them except for Jesse Hogan. He averages the most disposals aside from Cameron and Greene.

Overall, he has EASILY been the 2nd best key forward in the comp since coming back from his major injuries. The guy is probably the 2nd best key forward of this little era and is a complete game-changer for a team that needs a key forward. You rarely find players like him often and when you do they cost the earth to recruit.

Yes, he's not young and he's got some injury and attitude concerns. We see weaknesses in Charlie like his impulsiveness on the field, but we don't appreciate the work he does that sets him apart from guys like Larkey and King who offer basically nothing beyond mark, kick, goal. Note: Charlie has almost double Larkey's goal assists over the last four years and more than triple King's.

Jeremy Cameron and Tex Walker showing key forwards like Charlie can play into their 30s and he's probably got at least 3-4 elite years ahead of him. Possibly 5+.

Yes, we aren't getting 5 first rounders and Hayward and Florent and Butters and picks for Cody plus steak knives. But I'd be surprised if he isn't one of the more expensive recruits of recent years.

He is not a superstar at his best. He is a superstar full stop. Other teams will look beyond his down year in and pony up.

I saw some talk West Coast will use Pick 19 to trade for Starcevich. Seems like a no brainer for them.
I think anyone can see through this charade from the AFL

Give em 19 so they can trade with Brisbane and not dilute the compo they are going to get for Oscar Allen

It’s so transparent it’s sickening

Brisbane are huge winners out of this as well, they're effectively getting an end of first round compensation pick for losing a free agent even though they're bringing in two who are potentially going to trigger first round compensation for the clubs they're leaving.

In 2019 our small forward options were O'Dwyer, Fasolo, LeBois, Garlett (Jarrod not Jeff), Lang, Polson, Deluca, Pickett, Owies, and Gibbons (the best of the lot). A couple of those never played a game, most played no more than a handful.

I don't think we would've delisted Miers, he would've been our best small forward by a fair margin.
I've still got high hopes for a few of those guys.

Superb post Ferris.

Insightful. Factual. Logical.

Thought we were bringing in coaches from successful programs!!
Absolutely no chance imo.

All the good coaches seem to avoid our club.

Other clubs seem to attract high level assistants and senior coaches who have been sacked by other clubs but we got nothing since old man (Neil Craig?) that was assisting Bolton.

its a good point - Lions wouldve been comepnsated for starcevich, which they would then lose because of the two FAs they are bring in.

Getting an extra first round pick for free - cause thats what the reigning premier coming off a repeat premierships need...
