I'd say whichever club offers him the better contract is a bigger factor.

If we were in the running for NWM, we obviously have a shitload of cap space available.
He has a 4 year contract over $1M locked in already doesn't he?

Either way he's getting this money paid to him right?

Or have I got this wrong?

Fair enough. Appreciate your intel as always.

Edit: noticed that everyone’s ’favourite’ mod SYL said last night that it’s a done deal to Suns based on his sources.
He trolls Adelaide supporters for a living.

Hence my reply to him on that thread.

Football wise I agree.

But she would have a significant say and she obviously loves the beach life up there.

These things count for a fair bit.
Adelaide also has world class beaches, I'm sure they would end living in Henley or Brighton like most players in this state. One thing GC can't compete with Adelaide is food, which given it's their passion, would I think be more important than which beaches are better.

None of us truly know whether he wants the quieter lifestyle away from the spotlight (people on the GC didn't even recognise Ablett) or if playing in front of big crowds is more important. He may also want more midfield time too, which Adelaide can give him. All just guessing at this stage.

Adelaide can certainly offer better money as well, GC are a bit more restricted here given how hard clubs are coming for King, Rowell and Walter already.

I find this a little weird

Flying in on the afternoon just before their BnF
The fact he’s staying overnight says a bit to me.

He couldn’t have gotten in and out of Adelaide quicker. His wife had never been here yet didn’t spend any time really to check the area out.

Maybe I’m looking too much into it of course but just saying….

To be fair Adelaide Beaches couldn't compare to Qld beaches.

Not even in same ball park.

Let’s take a step back for a sec.

I think there is enough smoke out there to assume Petracca is a good chance of heading north rather than to us. Which means there could be a lot of disappointment in a couple days time.

So might as well take stock now. We will still get Ah Chee who is a good player albeit not a needle mover and does not fix our midfield woes other than allowing more midfield time for Rankine especially if Rachele gets injured again.

With Trac, McVee and likely May gone I can’t really see the Dees allowing Oliver to walk as well.

That basically removes any key midfield targets, which leaves us with 14 (likely to be 16-17 post FA compensation picks) to take to the draft. Maybe we can move up the order by going for Carlton’s pick for example, but that would likely require having to trade out of next year’s first round which is always a dicey play and this year is probably not the draft to do it.

So basically Ah Chee and pick 16 plus a couple later ones (and Cotton). Meanwhile the Suns, Hawks and Lions boost their lists with star power.

This is a realistic scenario. How do we feel about it? Do we have faith that Draper, Curtin, Soligo etc are capable to taking us to the same level in the next two years?
Would hope we're interested in Stevens again. I'd certainly sniff around Oliver but agree, can't see Dees letting him go too. I'm more willing to involve both our firsts in a trade for Petracca than others for this reason.

But if we miss out I don't think it's the end of the world. It reminds me of 2023 - people were frustrated we didn't bring anyone in to immediately boost our list, but considering who was gettable (Oliver and Petty for several first rounders), we were better off long-term by biting our tongues. Petracca would be great but he's not the white hope. He arrives at $1.4 mil a year as a 30 year old, and I don't think we're on Brisbane's level even with him in. Might mean we look at 2026 similar to 2024 (one step back, preceeding two steps forward?)

I thought they did stay overnight.

Things in Adelaides Favour:

1. Premiership Window
2. ANB
3. Food and Wine

Things in GC Favour

1. Premiership window
2. Very Talented young squad
3. Not needing to do the heavy lifting
4. Longevity and protection of his body
5. Hardwick
6. Apparently Noosa?

Things that could go either way:

Being the main man in the spot light of a footy mad town.
Now depending whether he wants this or not, this could be either positive or negative.

Lifestyle, depending on what type of lifestyle this could go either way.

What have I missed?
Playing at Adelaide Oval in front of a much bigger crowd would also be in our favour. Average Suns home crowd 17K & high proportion are opposition supporters!

If he wants to play more midfield than forward, that is also in our favour.

Not really.

If I put myself in his shoes, I think I'd pick GC.

Thers alot more to life than football and there's many years ahead.

I'm ok with not getting Trac and have said so I'm the past.
I don't agree ....Petracca is conscious about his brand & legacy .....he, IMO, still wants to show everyone he's an elite footballer ....very much aware of the legacy he'll leave after he retires

Of the two Clubs ....ADEL gives him the best opportunity in that regard

Petracca staying overnight rather than ducking in and out like he did Monday. ;)
Doesn't have a heap of choice there given it's their B&F tonight. Petracca didn't leave Adelaide until after dinner, it's not like he did the club stuff and got out of here straight away.

Yeah, maybe you need to calm down a bit.

If he's moving clubs (and moving interstate), he's got every right to ask for extra $$$ and possibly an extra year. His manager wouldn't be doing her job if she didn't squeeze a bit more out of us (or GC).
