Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Also think you have to take talent into account he's a very good footballer and still looks to be mates with the players going off that training photo today, he's contracted for 1 more year just give him another chance if he does it again see you later
He’s always smiling out in the field..
Oh, hang on!

He’s got to knuckle down. Make a decision by MSD if it’s a no. Need the class around the HFF.

So they don’t lose #2
If they sign Starcevich as a free agent they would have pick 2 downgraded, you’re right, in this scenario WC have their pick downgraded and Brisbane get nothing.

So if I’m WC I’m offering Brisbane a trade and finding a pick in the 30s or 40s, which is a much better outcome for them.

WC also have pick 1 in the PSD, they don’t need to trade at all, especially not an end of 1st round pick

If were going off Cal's list

WC - Duursma
GC - Uwland
Rich - Duff-Tytler
GC - Patterson
Brisbane - Annable
Rich - Robey
Ess - Taylor
Carl - Dean
Ess - Sharp
Stk - Schubert
Hawks - Lindsay

Our pick 9 would come in here, be 2 spots worse again with WC getting pick 2 compo and GC likely trading pick 6 for points
There’s no way Essendon bid on father sons of other big clubs when they have their own high profile players coming through.

Buckley spoke brilliantly on SEN today about what he’d look for in young players for TAS (hypothetically) and for JUH.

Key theme from his points was about demonstrating gratitude. Cornes pressed him on what he’d prioritise in building a team from scratch with leading qs about talent or professionalism and he said he’d prioritise gratitude for the opportunity.

Don’t know Elijah’s specific circumstances but I never got the sense there was ever a hell of a lot of gratitude from him for the opportunity he’s got. It’s just a feeling - but he reminds me of Oliver a bit - doesn’t seem to have much humility and carries a certain level of smugness.

This might be the case for several of our players this year (Charlie, Acres), regardless of the bullshit at our club.

Encourage everyone to have a listen to it. From the outside looking in - and all other complexities aside - the themes feel very relevant to his situation and probably for some other players too.

It won't just be essendon though once you add in the wc extra and whoever buys the suns pick 6.

Top 4 kids + 3 academy selections go to wc, rich, gc, bris.

So dean would be due then and we have

2x essendon picks
1x whoever owns pick 6 from GC
1x saints
1x hawks

Dean has to be overlooked 5 times to make it to our pick, it's unlikely

Stains reportedly want to hand over pick 7 for Flanders.

Hawks surely aren't going for another kpd...

Ess would want to be careful bidding on F/S so early... they have a couple prospects coming soon and will not appreciate the favour being returned. But yes, they are the best chance to bid... but I'm also confident, they're not doing that with pick 4/5...

But who do you think will actually bid on him?

Richmond have an oversupply of KPD, they just delisted Blight who was considered unlucky, but it’s possible.
Essendon I doubt want to rock the boat with quality father sons on the horizon.
I think West Coast's picks are too high
Bulldogs have another two Darcy’s on the way but they do need KPD
Hawks maybe
Saints yep

why do we need more points?

Dean unlikley top ten and Ison much later

Unless its something involving a Future pick as well ie F2, then really not interested

Most phantom drafts have Dean coming in before the TDK compo so getting more points would be a plus

So you'd rather we hold the pick and not have enough points if the bid is directly after?

Cal Twomey is usually on the money with the Top 10 and has Harry Dean ranked at No.8 "Best Defender in the Draft"

https://www.afl.com.au/news/1427257...m-guide-top-draft-prospects-september-ranking

THats the form guide so clubs will not always opt for the "next best available"

Combine etc will be interesting as I expect other kids who dont have a pre-determined home will be trying to look as good as possible

Belongs in this thread …

Thanks all!

It won’t be that. As Twomey said it’s a good place to break the ice.
Swans will need to get inventive with how they could broker a trade with us imo. I’m almost convinced a third club needs to be involved here.

Pick 9 and future first from the Swans is not good enough for me, I’m not accepting that.

JUH chase makes sense for the budget option both on coin (surely cannot expect more than an average/basic wage) & draft capital required for Academy picks. Downside is his application, state of mind and the glitter strip.

If Sydney want CC, more it’ll have to be. Pony up or no key forward for you.

Agree, if they gave us (as picks currently stand before any bids)
Pick 9
Pick 28
2026 First (likely around Pick 10-12?)
Florent or McInerney or Rowbottom or Campbell

And we give
Charlie
Pick 45

We end up with (this year)
Pick 9
Pick 10
Pick 28
Pick 29 (SOS compo second round)
Pick 37
Florent or McInerney or Rowbottom or Campbell
from losing TDK, SOS and Charlie

Add Pick 11 next year from Swans plus our current 2026 first rounder for a Walker bid.

I say that's an incredibly strong position, and not unrealistic to think that's where we might land with the Swans.

How Geelong can even think they have leverage at the moment when the Swans have all of that to give up is beyond me.

Do you think he isn’t coaching for his future next year?
I think it all depends on what happens this off-season.

If we build out the middle of our list with serviceable players/depth, what's the expectation on where we can finish next year? Pushing for finals? 7-8th at best probably?

So if he achieves a 7-10th finish in a transitional year, do you then give him a one year extension plus a genuine war chest of picks and salary cap (if Charlie leaves) to go bang and really give it a red, hot crack?

If we sign a Butters-type while losing Charlie in this off-season, then yeah you'd expect at least a top 6 finish home elim final with the aspiration of top 4.

Rowbotham cannot be part of the mix, we’re trying to move past this type of midfielder.
Florent could be a salary dump from Sydney vs paying a VFL player.

McInerney offers some dash
Campbell some kicking
