Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Pick 2 would be considered A grade talent in the door.

If the deal is ultimately Pick 2, F1, Hayward, Florent and some steak knives for Curnow and TDK compo that's likely the best we can hope for.

Unfortunately with the NGA/FS changes that F1 has become a lot more valuable to us for getting Cody.

It’s either that or we keep Charlie. No chance we're getting a Gulden or anyone back of that ilk.
The more I think about it, the more I like this package.

With picks 2 and 11, we can either:
A) Try to prise Butters out of Port
B) Pick Duursma/Duff Teitler; use 11 to trade for another experienced player
C) Pick Duursma/Duff Teitler; trade 11 for a F1 or even split it with a club to give us another pick this year for points

Wonder if clubs will work to trade some future picks with the Devils to help mitigate them raiding their lists?

That $5m sign-on bonus is ****ed as well - between that and a list profile made up of teenagers, they’ll make the Saints spending spree look like dropped loose change; think we’ll have to accept that Cowan is gone. He won’t turn down 7 figures and can’t blame him.

I’d rather Hayward than Florent but the Sydney rumour sounds like something to build on.
I’d personally prefer Datolli to Papley too.

But I fully agree with you. The Sydney rumour is one to build on. My guess is we have opened our gambit with Papley knowing we won’t get him. So let’s see where we end up.

I’d personally be comfortable with Here Comes Judy’s suggestion of three first round picks (2025-2027) and push for Datolli on top of that.

Why would we want Papley? If we get Florent and Papley that will be a bad deal.

2 1sts, a second (to help with other trades or next year), McDonald and Florent sounds more like it.

Fleece them for all you can.

The elephant in the room in all this is what we’ll need for Walker. If the club thinks we’ll need two first rounders, then I think Curnow is as good as gone. As someone else said - Walker is the A grader we get in return for Charlie and pack his bags given he doesn’t want to be here.

I can stomach that rumoured Sydney trade. Swans will probably be better next year but I don’t see them being top 4 or anything. Most likely outcome is it’s a pick around 12. Two decent first rounders and 2 decent players I’m ok with. I can understand a meh reaction to Papley but we need more like him, both positional and culturally. And if the aim is to conduct a mini list rebalance and be competitive again quickly, he’s not too old to contribute.

Not sure about Mcdonald anymore.
Also if they give us a future first, we should expect them to make finals with Charlie in the side (so that pick wont be much chop)

Why would GC want Jamara instead of Curnow. I get it from an age perspective, but after all he did this year. It must have been bad for the bulldogs not to play him. Him playing would have got them playing finals.

Hope Petracca picks Adelaide and GC go cold on Jamara so they get back on the Curnow train.

Just like Harley Bennell. More trouble than he’s worth.

I like it but are we sure Sydney can trade out their first round picks three years in a row?
Assume they would need AFL approval.

With the ‘27 draft already so compromised, it’s probably not all that different to just trading the two years worth. They would also have 2 x 2nds in that scenario.

Geelong/Sydney/GC want to bring Charlie in for 1st round picks and fridge 22 players, all so they don’t lose too much talent which would see them finishing higher on the ladder, which would affect us.

Yeah, screw that. Charlie should only go for 1st rounds picks and a couple gun best 22 players.

you're only looking at it from one side...

Sydney need a top notch key forward if they are to move back up the ladder i.e. make finals (or more).

No chance they get close to top 4 (even top 8 imo) without a gun forward... Amartey (sp?) and McDonald ain't going to get it done.... even discounting injury issues...

So, who blinks first - us or them...

Time will tell.

Ryan Burton sounds like a great bloke.

What are people's thoughts on Logan McDonald, still young and surely has a huge upside? Paired with Hayward and a couple of first rounders, this might be salvageable. I like the idea of having a decent key forward coming back, and whilst Walter would be ideal it seems GC are the least likely of the three teams we will do a trade with.

IMO.. The benefit of giving JUH a chance of a fresh start (has potential to be a top 10 player in the league) outweighs the risks.

Put clauses in his contract, around training and off field standards. Which give a club an out, if he fails to meet them.

If JUH is ready to turn his life around, he would have been a great (free) Curnow replacement.

Since “Fev” Carlton aren’t brave enough to back ourselves in. Hollands a prime example, would rather just get rid of him than do the hard yard and help him.

Good on the suns for potentially giving him a chance at redemption.

Who do you think Voss would prefer? Someone who can give an immediate lift or someone who needs development. What does Carlton need though ......

I don't think the club will let Voss go down the short-term fix route...

I agree on the Dean part. Imo he'll get bid on within 10.

The rating of the Swans players is just mind boggling to me. This is a team that has played in two Grand finals over the last few years with Hayward, Florent and Campbell being mainstays of those teams.

If you go through each of them and list what their strengths are as players and then how the Swans and Carlton's lists differ in terms of needs/deficiencies you'll quickly realize why each of them would help us.

Any of Hayward, Campbell, McInerney, Florent would walk straight into our current team and play every game if healthy.
Trading out our first is our side of the gentlemans' agreement on not bidding on FS early. Notwithstanding SOS et al.

I think we need the points anyway, so would prefer it be traded for adequate points this year and extras next.

yeah agree

its a little strange that we only appear to be hearing about Charlie and geelong on TV news and not Suns/swans even though geelong dont appear to have the draft capital to make a deal that satisfies us.

The Swans don't sell papers or click bait; Geelong does and don't forget the manager is pushing the Geelong angle. I get the feeling Charlie would not be that keen on Sydney, nor would his future wife IMHO!

Why would we be targeting Papley? Makes sense for 2 reasons only:

1. "bring in a big name" as part of losing Curnow to make it easier for members to stomach...
2. Deep down, we know we're not getting him, but we do it to set the bar high. Swans will say we can't give you Papley, but they know they'll need to cough up more than their 2 firsts and a salary dump.

Things to note:
Florent is a salary dump for them, otherwise he'll be a very expensive VFL player for them in the coming years and his value only diminishes the longer they hold onto him...

Papley has also publicly said he want to stay at the Swans... I don't want us having to "twist his arm" to join us...

Asking for their 2027 1st as well gives us extra trade capital should we need it.

The way I see it, we need to forget about trying to get a top 3 pick this year using TDK + Swans 1st... combine those firsts to get a very good 1st next year and we're set. #10 + #11 to North or Melbourne for their F1 + a 3rd/late 2nd rounder to help with points this year would be perfect.

Then if we also have that Swans 27F1, we could package that with our 27F1 to * for their F1 + #25

That way we have #22 (JSOS pick) + #25 + #36 + #39 (North 3rd) + #44 = approx 2017 points to pay for Dean + Ison.

Then we go to next year's draft with: North, *, Swans + our first.

With that outcome, I'd pull the trigger and draft Cody naturally with the first pick we have if we can. Ess or North might finish low enough to accomplish this. If not, bad luck, we just need to combine to pay.

If * finish 16th, that's pick #3... with no Cody bid, we take him straight away.

North's pick will be top 6, ours will be top 8, Swans will be approx 10-13.

Eh? It's not that deep.

We need a small forward who can contribute at AFL level, even if it's for a couple of years. Would rather that as steak knives than a 3rd rounder who will probably play less than half a dozen games.
