Please be putting in work with Butters for next year.

Pendles Sidebottom and Howe should all be off the books to have a huge go.

The flip side and why I’m agnostic on it now that it’s settled in is that he’s a glue guy and retaining him comes with a degree of sentimentality that I don’t usually have. I think for a lot of us he’s been a generational favourite and specifically for me he’s the third of my lifetime (Buckley>Daisy>Elliott).

Nice to see some ‘sentimentality’ in your post.👍 You’ve identified the nub of it.

Hard to find a player who’s been more loved or more appreciated than Jamie over the course of his career. All those injuries, all that time out, and yet he came back again and again, his courage and skills not diminished.

The affection we all have for him reminds me of Murphy. If the club choose to boost his coffers in the twilight of his career, then we’re all for it. As we were with Murphy receiving his payout after being forced into retirement.

Nah, the link is real.
He is the type of player they have been craving for since Rankine. He's met with the suns and he has held interest in potentially going there - from all reports.

Surely we'll find one way or another by the weekend.
Copeland is friday

He did the same with the Lions for a previous contract. His manager got ch7 to film him walk into the Gabba. Then we all of a sudden upped our offer.

Worked again for him this time.

I think the picture is getting a bit clearer for mine. Buller comes in to cover Checkers type role even though he not as decorated he will fill the bill. Blight comes in to secure up our pillars down back. Moore or Howe could both play a bit forward next year to balance things out.

Think we getting ready for big plays next year on a King type forward. Not much we can do this year wit limited picks and currency.
Buller is coming in to play the tall 2nd forward role, who may develop his ruck craft to give Cameron some back-up. West on the small side (plus you throw Presti into ruck battles, not Carey) and unfortunately it’s not McStay’s caper.

West likely to be developed as the FF. McStay CHF, competing in the air and crunching packs.

Forwards have basic role for McRaes system.
So did the in and under hard ball getters.

The complex bit is the defensive 6 way of forming a fort under siege, has to be disciplined. Also the transition of the ball from the back half to the forward 50 is clearly a McRae signature that needs discipline and unselfishness...

Houston playing a role that requires him being a link to a chain is unaccustomed to him. He's used to creating attacks from nothing.
I would argue being too defensively focused hurt our ability to score when it mattered the most.

Need some of the 2023 high transition game back, and inorder for that to happen, we need some serious speed on our HB line and wings.

I’m not really there with you based on the reporting that he’ll be on at least $650k. From my perspective that’s market rate and once you’re paying market rate to retain someone it’s no longer a strong deal. You pay 3 or 4 guys their market rate and all of a sudden your ability to bring in a difference maker is shot.

The exact figures are unknown and were just a guess to illustrate my point. The end figure the journos go with is nearly always the best case outcome because that’s the figure the manager leaks out because it makes them look good.

Jamie is a glue guy and deserves the extra effort to pay the guy his worth to retain him. I’d have been pretty shattered if he’d left us. Love the guy.

It makes it far more likely we’ll contend again next year.

We'll clearly get a defender - Maybe they just have decided to look elsewhere. We'll see what happens.
List spots are going to be tight. If it was a best team defender - Frampton could have become depth for both first ruck and KPD - saving a list spot - but if he stays as a senior KPD, we'll probably need to bring in ruck depth - Steene still a fair way away from being strong enough.
