Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

IMO.. The benefit of giving JUH a chance of a fresh start (has potential to be a top 10 player in the league) outweighs the risks.

Put clauses in his contract, around training and off field standards. Which give a club an out, if he fails to meet them.

If JUH is ready to turn his life around, he would have been a great (free) Curnow replacement.

Since “Fev” Carlton aren’t brave enough to back ourselves in. Hollands a prime example, would rather just get rid of him than do the hard yard and help him.

Good on the suns for potentially giving him a chance at redemption.

Think you need to remove his associates. A move to Carlton isn’t going to change behaviours (and you need to be beware of what’s underneath here - 2025 is a disgraceful character showing).

I don't think the club will let Voss go down the short-term fix route...
The club is the dog, the coaches are just tails, like the playing list.
I'm giving the coaches a clean slate in 2026, but if we can't perform to a consistent standard(not necessarily finalists) then we have a look around for better choices.
It's still too soon to judge, but I thought we might have attracted more interest from proven line coaches.

Swap out Florent for Hayward in that bluemour and I’d do it. Probably need to send a pick back the Swans way though.

Adds, on average, 2 goals and 4 assists to the forward line per game, combined with some genuine pressure and the ability to run through the middle for periods.

I don't think we'd have the resources to manage JUH, given he'd still be around the same associates. I think GC can afford to take the risk, apart from the list place he'd take from some young, developing player...

If were going off Cal's list

WC - Duursma
GC - Uwland
Rich - Duff-Tytler
GC - Patterson
Brisbane - Annable
Rich - Robey
Ess - Taylor
Carl - Dean
Ess - Sharp
Stk - Schubert
Hawks - Lindsay

Our pick 9 would come in here, be 2 spots worse again with WC getting pick 2 compo and GC likely trading pick 6 for points

Still a lot to change though.

WC to get the second pick by way of Oscar Allen compo.

St Kilda seem set on sending Pick 7 (8 after the above compo) to GC for Flanders. Pick 7 for GC will be the one that moves up to match the Uwland bid, but a good chunk of Pick 8 will be needed as well so that will move back in the draft, probably into the second round.

Hawks are into Merrett, everything has gone quiet on that front but talk is that it'll heat up again after the Bombers B&F. They'd have to be using our old first rounder to start with, plus futures. If they miss him, do they make a play for Petracca and is he interested?

In terms of live picks, I think this is roughly what ends up unfolding:

Pick 1 - West Coast - Duursma?
Pick 2 - Gold Coast - Uwland - matching bid with 7 and 8
Pick 3 - West Coast (compo) - Duff-Tytler?
Pick 4 - Gold Coast - Patterson - matching bid with 13 and 16
Pick 5 - Brisbane - Annable - matching bid with 18 and 20 (via WC for Starcevich)
Pick 6 - Richmond - ???
Pick 7 - Richmond - ???
Pick 8 - Essendon - ???
Pick 9 - Essendon - ???
Pick 10 - Hawthorn - does this end up with Essendon or Melbourne?
Pick 11 - Carlton (compo) - ???

So the interesting questions will be :

- Do Richmond bid on Dean after already potentially having bid on Patterson and Annable? They might feel that's enough shenanigans, and don't actually stand to benefit by forcing anyone to pay overs given they don't have any picks after their first two.

- Do Essendon bid on Dean given they don't have an actual need for a KPD, and there may have been some discourse with the Blues around managing the Walker/Bewick situation?

- Who holds Pick 10 and what are their intentions?

We have not balanced our list. We are too top heavy on the inside and have limited outside run.
We can't keep bringing in inside midfielders who give us little run. We also have BC and Lord developing.
We need to be much smarter and more agile with our selections.
Replacing Hewett with Rowbottom does nothing for our overall team.

You forgot "synergistic" and "aligned". But that's OK, we can circle back later when we have more bandwidth.

If Swans are offering 2 first rounders and Florent as per bluemour you take it and run!

florent would fit straight into our best 23.

2x first rounders plus whatever we get for Tdk/Jsos should be more than enough to secure F/Ss coming in this and next year.

If it’s genuine I hope we get the deal done sooner rather later so we can focus on other players/spots in areas of need.

I just don’t see Graham Wright accepting picks 9, future first and some fringe players like Florent, Rowbottom or Campbell for Charlie. I think that would be a horrible deal for us.
I look at it a little differently.

Bonuses from that trade would be

  • improved depth
  • picks for Walker sorted
  • package TDK compo and swans first this year to move up the order for a pick before Dean

Each club will still take picks in the 2027 draft and although TAS will have a huge amount of picks, I still believe having an extra 1st helps us. We either trade it for talent or if we have a fs or zone kid coming to us, it will help immensely.

Of course it’s not ideal, but we can’t just assume another 1st won’t help us
agree, at the very least it could be something essendon need to match a bewick bid.

I think it's fair to say too that by the end of the 2027 trade period tassie won't be holding all those picks anymore

What do we really want to achieve during the trade period? Do we want to bring in a ‘star’? Or are we better placed bringing in more picks to get Dean and Ison done, trade in Khamis, Chesser and Reidy and another F1 for Cody in 2026? Getting picks and a ‘star’ will be challenging.

Especially considering Tassie will chew up picks in 2027 and 2028, perhaps the time is NOW (2025 and 2026) to hit the draft.

Won’t appease many, but it may be the better and more appropriate option for us longer term.

Consistent message I have been told is we are very happy with our youth and will add Dean Ison maybe Gresham, Clarke late or rookies. Then there is Walker and Jagga. We have more than enough “kids”

Focus is to build depth around this youth. Only way we may get more is if we can upgrade to top 3 pick for real quality and not affect Dean pick

As of weekend that was still the plan

Things change but unless a gun falls on our lap I believe this is what will happen.

Whereas I’d skip on Papley and go florent and buff to no pick going back.

I’d then pick up DFA Ryan Burton (surely our new HOF knows what’s up with his injuries)

Reidy, Chesser and potentially another elite mid with our extra picks before throwing the rest at Cody’s bidding next year.

for most of this century our teams have been made up of superstars and rookies, somewhat ignoring that a higher floor is better than a higher ceiling.

if nothing else it's a strategic change that's worth exploring

Anyone see the interview with Ryan Burton from Port Adelaide. Ex actually.

He was reaching out to clubs. Mentioned his mgr reached out to Carlton, but he himself hadnt spoken to Michael Voss.

He has a lot of respect for Chris Davies who he feels was very honest with him when he got delisted.
